Chapter 21---(Preparation)

I sat down on the ground, panting heavily, trying to catch my breath. After a couple of minutes, I suddenly felt a surge of energy flowing through me, which rejuvenated me and made me feel full of vitality. Even the aches and bruises on my body began to heal. When I looked up, I saw Emir pointing his staff at me. I realized that he must have cast a spell to energize me. Noctaru then landed on my shoulder, and I saw him shaking his head, perhaps in disbelief or disapproval.

Now that I had regained my energy, I got up and asked Emir, "So now what? I'm guessing some kind of weapons training?" Emir nodded and summoned a cabinet. I looked at the 4-foot-tall cabinet and saw that it was covered in contorting geometric shapes. I looked at it again with my energy senses and saw that it was practically glowing with mana and natural energy. I quickly deactivated my senses, but still felt a hazy feeling on the box, not unlike the spots that form in sight when you look at something too bright.

"What is that?" I cried out, feeling a sudden headache from sensing the cabinet's energy. Emir chuckled, "This here is a spatially expanded cabinet with some training weapons. So come now and take your pick."

I go and see what the cabinet has. I try to look around to see what it has but when I open it I only see a dark void. I glance over at Emir with a questioning gaze. "You need to think about what kind of weapon you want and put your hand in there, you should feel your desired weapon in there if I have it."

I nodded and thought about a pair of short swords as they were my most practiced weapons. As I plunge my hand into the inky darkness, I feel a pair of handles that I pull out. I saw that I pulled out a pair of short wooden swords, they were made of what looked like hard oak wood about 2 feet in length with the double-sided blades taking about 1.5 feet.

I try them out and feel that I can wield them ok. I turn to Emir and nod while I notice that Noctaru is looking at the cabinet with interest and is occasionally pecking it. I chuckle a bit seeing his antics.

"So what do I hit with these? Or am I to just show my moves to you?" I asked Emir as there weren't any dummies to practice on. Emir mutters something unintelligible, then the ground beside him bulges up and forms the shape of a humanoid mannequin. It didn't have eyes, nose, ears or any other defining facial feature, just a blank mask. After fully forming it theatrically bowed to him. He chuckled and said, "This is Akota, he will be your sparing partner."

I nodded and went to the centre of the circle that just rose up from the ground.

I beckoned Akota to come at me while taking my stance, left leg forward and right back while keeping a wide stance.

I saw him run at me in an almost clumsy manner, but I didn't drop my guard as I had seen this type of style, which someone had aptly named in my old world the 'Drunken Monkey'. Just as he came in front of me, he tripped. But I didn't let my guard down and backed up a step. Just then I see him doing a handstand and his legs going in a circle kicking. As he saw that I was out of his range, he jumped up and landed behind me.

Just as he landed I slashed my swords at him in a flurry, he ducked and weaved his body unnaturally as he didn't have to move like a normal human. I hit him a couple of times which slightly chipped his arms. In the middle of my flurry as he was backing up he dropped to the ground and tried to hook my legs from under me. I quickly hopped up to dodge that but I failed to notice his arms punching out. I was hit squarely in my chest which knocked me back. I landed on my back with my breath knocked out.

As I see him coming at me I quickly do a flip to get back up. But I was just too slow as he kicked me down again and planted his foot on my chest. "Match concluded" I hear Emir yell.

"Like I had said I am not very good at fighting, I just used enchanted things to gain an advantage on my opponent," I said bitterly. Emir nods his head, "It is good that you know your shortcomings. Now that we know what you are bad at we can go over it some other time." I look at him nodding, "So now, what is next?"

"Now we see what you can make, as you have said that you were a crafter in your world I look forward to seeing your creations!" Emir said excitedly. Then he muttered something and waved his wand at me. I feel a wave of energy invigorate me and clean my body of dirt.

We then get out of the clearing towards the dirt trail that we came through. Seeing us going Noctaru came flying towards me and landed on my shoulder. We then entered the main clearing after some minutes of walking. Emir then took us toward a three-story tall stone building. It looked out of place as all the other buildings were made out of a tree.

This tale has been pilfered from Royal Road. If found on Amazon, kindly file a report.

We entered the building through a set of giant doors, which had a mural of a story on it. Before I could look at it clearly Emir put his hand on the door and the door opened without squeaking or grinding. We enter into a dark room which instantly gets illuminated after we go a few steps from the door.

I see that the room was not a room at all but a hallway instead. There were doors with plates on them. Emir took me to a door labelled 'P-T1'. He opened the door and we entered. Inside I saw a wall covered in multiple types of tools. A long workbench with paper, pencils and rules sat on the opposite side of the room.

As Emir closed the door behind us the sounds outside of the room dulls. The chirps of birds and insects, the rustling of leaves, etc grow faint as if I were wearing a pair of noise-cancelling headphones.

Then Emir claps and excitedly says, " Now you need to make a humanoid figurine that we will use in your summoning magic class. You should adorn it in various pieces of crafts but remember to keep it shorter than one foot. For your materials, I will leave a crate with the same type of enchantment as the weapons cabinet filled with many different types of materials, though they will be tier 1 or lower grade. And I will also leave a catalogue of the materials that will be in the crate. The catalogue has been enchanted to help you search for your needed material, gain more knowledge of the materials and see how much is in it." After saying his part he leaves a crate and a booklet on top of it in a corner beside the door. Then he left the room before I could say anything.

I just shrugged and started thinking about what sort of summon I would like. As this will be a small humanoid figurine it won't be the most combat-capable so something support based. Then I think of fairies and spriggans nodding my head.

I go over to the crate and pick up the catalogue to find some kind of clay or something. I see that the words in the catalogue start to shift and change. After a couple of moments, I see four entries in the catalogue highlighted. First was normal tier 0 river clay which I looked over. Next was a tier 0 ash clay which I also glanced by. Third was something interesting, tier 1 deep clay, which is found in the depth of deep rivers or underground clay deposits near underground lakes. This clay is attuned to depth, water and earth-related aspects. I am a bit intrigued about the uses of the clay but it isn't what I am looking for.

Next up was tier 1 earth slime jelly, it's the coagulated slime of an earth slime that can be used for pottery or as mortar for building as it is very strong after it has fully dried and it's sometimes used for fertilizer after mixing with other things. "Bingo!" I muttered excitedly after finding just the right thing for my project.

I put my hand inside the crate and try to pull out some of the tier 1 materials and pull out a jar of blueish clay. Next, I pull out a jar of brown jelly. I put those on the workbench and started looking through the catalogue for some nature or plant-attuned bone or crystals. The words start shifting again and end with highlighting two entries. First was a shard of a tier-1 plant monster. The monster was a thorny vine-type plant which would wrap around and suffocate its prey like a snake and suck their vitality out slowly and leave the corpse near itself to attract the scavengers for preying upon.

I shake my head at the entry as I don't want to use that kind of material on my garden fairy. The next entry was that of the bones of a tier 1 thislethorne.

Thistlethorne are a type of porcupine-like monster which have poisonous thorns on their back instead of spikes. They are normally plant attuned. I nodded my head and put my hand into the crate to pull out some of the brittle bones of the creature. I pull out a fist full of small bones which most likely had been of its paws. I put the bones in the mortar on the bench.

Next, I looked up some sort of solar-attuned crystals. The catalogue highlighted just one entry. Tier 1 sun shards. The shards are a type of mana crystal which grows in the desert. I put my hand in and take out one of the shards, which looks like a piece of yellow stained glass which glows a warm yellow light. I put it on the desk and looked for some flowers with plant growth properties and found none.

So I look for leaves or flowers with healing properties. The catalogue highlighted just one entry, a tier 1 flower named corpse bloom, which sprouts from corpses and can be poisonous or healing based on how they are prepared. I also don't like this so I look for small scale-like leaves, which I get a match for, tier 0 spring sprout grass which has leaves wider than normal and are also more durable and flexible than other tier 0 grasses. I pull out a small pouch filled with small yellowish triangular leaves which I would not have thought were grass as they are like small leaves of a bush. I put the pouch on the bench and looked for some butterfly or insect wings that might help my creation fly.

The catalogue showed five entries, the first one was of a tier 1 giant Illumica butterfly. It said that the butterflies like to drink the nectar of light or illusion based flowers, they are also illusion attuned and this specimen became bigger than normal at its tier evolution.

I put my hand into the crate and pulled out a glass case with a pair of beautiful wings covered in a mosaic pattern of green, yellow, pink and black. The wings also seem to shimmer and shine in the light. I put them near the sunshard and saw the wings shine brighter.

Just as I was sitting down I remembered that I didn't get a core for the fairy. I go to the catalogue to look for a core with nature or plant attunement. It gave me three entries. The first was the shard of the plant monster, which I dismissed. The next was a core of a plant elemental, I pulled it out to see a small crystalline seed, which I put aside and sat down to really start on my first crafting project in this new world.
