Chapter 25

[Luke POV]

It’s been three months since the heir to Romwell first arrived at Neverwinter, ever since there have been problems arising left and right.

First of all, the Romwells bought the Lucas Hotel for quite a hefty sum. Now Albert Romwell stays there from time to time he’s also going to a local soup shop. I tried it and it was probably one of the best in the village.

Also, some POWs refused to leave the prison complex but thankfully Albert handled that too. He’s quite useful.

The village has reached 95,000 residents and has remained stagnant since then. The reason is some are staying in Roella and the new town in the northern river.

The Northwest has also gained a new life after we made the road system that connected every town in the region. What took a week to travel to Romwell now took a few days.

Goods travelled faster around the West domain. I applied the same concept with the Kaisels, to shut them up I paid them 25 platinum coins. Dropping the two charges we have. In exchange, both houses agreed to not stop any caravan going to and out of my territory.

Thus the Neverwinter highway system was officiated, in a few weeks I will also make one that leads to the capital when I attend the New Year Ball.

At the moment, Neverwinter rules two towns, Roella and the new town of Lucas, at first it was just a port but now, it has grown a lot. I developed it for a whole month making walls and some housing but most of their buildings are now made of concrete.

My three babies are beautiful in their own right, Neverwinter looked like Venice in my old world due to its abundance of canals and artificial lakes but had the organization of Barcelona. And the buildings of Paris.

Roella, a town that is currently under a lot of renovation to turn the deteriorating town into one that is worthy of being a sister town to the village of Neverwinter is shaping up to look a lot like it. When they showed me a blueprint it looked a lot like Prague.

Finally, the town of Lucas has recently expanded the river so now an artificial lake is in the middle of the town. It took hundreds of mages to achieve it.

Dwarves, dragonkins, elves, and humans are planning this city meticulously, when I made Neverwinter, I made sure it at least looked like the capital and other cities in the continent as I saw in paintings but the town of Lucas will not take that route.

Some talks have begun to move some of the college buildings to the town of Lucas, especially the science and engineering department, the university itself will be akin to a city of its own. Around 1000 architects and engineers from the university are focusing on Roella, but that was nothing compared to the ones working in Lucas, 6000 in total worked on it and many proposals were sent. Around 8000 workers were sent there. Though I provided the graphene and diamond glass1.

This story originates from a different website. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there.

A month ago they even figured out how to make A36 and A992 steel. Leading to a manufacturing district near the port of Lucas.

Even without my intervention… they designed and planned a city like how modern humans would… It looked like Singapore… a garden city…

At first, I wanted to stay out of the design process to ensure that they learn from the mistakes I made but as it went on… I realized that my villagers are geniuses. Some of the elves and dwarves have lived for hundreds of years allowing them to put some insights into what is lacking in some cities they have travelled to. Hundreds of years of experience…

“Your Highness, you made Neverwinter for us, we are making Lucas for you,” they told me.

Several building proposals were set on the table some reached 100 meters.

“We’re still figuring out the science behind it but hopefully we can make it. The math department is currently trying to figure out how to make taller buildings in cooperation with the engineering department.”

I know it can be made, I made them before. That’s what I wanted to tell them but I wanted to figure it out by themselves. Let them make mistakes along the way building a foundation of knowledge is more important than anything else.

They have begun making the government district of the town, where the buildings were limited to five stories.

“The plan is this downtown area as you call it, will house most of the activity. It will take years to finish it but that’s fine. Since we finished the harbour now, materials will not be a problem. We’re also expanding the canal leading to Neverwinter so it can help with material transport as well as goods export. Some dwarves have had headaches trying to deal with the soil though due to it being a wetland. We’ll do some tests first for the taller building at the moment the University is allowing buildings only up to 15 stories or 50 meters in height.”

I made a magic sequence to figure out the math for it, some worked while some didn’t I decided to not tell them anything so that they’d solve it themselves.

“The first few 50-meter-high buildings should begin construction this summer.”

My villagers are indeed geniuses. I look forward to what you have to show me in a few years.

Winter is almost over, and as everyone prepared for my departure, the village council raged on.

“We can transition 20% of the crops to beets; the university’s science department was able to produce sugar after extensive research.”

Currently, a debate is being held. After the discovery of sugar from bests it has become inevitable that some farmers would like to transition to that crop.

It's not an exaggeration to say that second to cotton, sugar is one of the most sought-after products in the kingdom. The Kingdom currently imports its sugar from the caliphate south of us. Though on limited supply.

Because of this, sugar is only available to the upper class and those who have money to pay for it. The south is a desert...

I allowed them to do their thing as I went to Rowan’s house.

I was proud to see that his home was finished, it was the very first building in the city that used reinforced concrete.

“Your Highness, you could have just ordered me to come to you.”

“Mr. Rowan, you’re a friend I didn’t want to bother you.”

“You can never bother me, your highness.”

I smiled as I saw him show his respect to me, it’s weird having it when I’m just a 12-year-old, and the man in front of me is in his 40s.

“Help me buy some land.”

“Oh worry not Your Highness, me and Sebas have already prepared a palace worthy of you in the capit—”

“I want to buy some land in the south and the empire is that possible.”

“Hmm?”

Wait I think he was saying something important. Well anyway, there’s nothing more important than monopolizing liquid gold before my villagers start to look for it.
