Chapter 6 – The Escape

Chapter 6 – The Escape

Nick was hiding inside one of the storefronts in the city. Checking up on his map that showed hundred meters around him.

All around were soldiers. Or rather they were soldiers of the Universe. Now nothing more than a constructs of Chaos.

[ Chaos soldier

Bronze

Weakness: purifying spells

Being made of chaotic energy. Without a conscience, as through the painful conversion it has lost itself.

No point in trying to reason with them.]

"I felt as if you've added the last part just for me."

[Only a bit. You know I'm evolving to suit the user.]

"So, in the end you'll be the perfect wife."

There was a slight silence before Telno said. [I didn't expect that.]

Nick saw as the part of the street got clear and crossed it quickly into one of the alleys. Moving out from the city.

"I mean someone must've said something along those lines."

[Yeah, they did. But only after seeing my holographic form.]

He jumped up the walls of the residential buildings. Before finding a balcony that got an open door. He slipped inside finding no one there as the map showed him.

"You got a holographic form?"

He didn't have to wait too long before in the corner of his eye Telno got visible. Now wearing a skintight grey suit.

She got bigger before laying down on the couch in the corner of the living room.

"I didn't expect to get a free trail of some mental illness."

[Hey, don't be like that. At least this way you won't get lonely.]

He paid her no mind and continued moving through the apartment spotting a group of enemies in the corridor of the flat he remained in the doorway.

"As you're, I don't believe they didn't make some body pillow of you for the soldiers or something. With how you phrased it."

[They did and even much more. There are soldiers trying to constantly flirting with me. You have quite the competition.]

"Nah, thanks. Think I'll pass."

Before they could continue on with their meaningful conversation. From the end of the corridor the sound of flesh being ripped off was heard.

Peeking out his head he saw. The Chaos soldiers ripping apart one of their own whilst feeding on him.

"Why do they do that?"

[To absorb chaotic energy. The quickest way, you guessed it is by eating another being of chaos.]

"What about the rats, then?"

[They had a King that made it impossible to cannibalize each other. The same being true for the tribesmen, but they cannibalized only in their rituals for their god.]

"Does their god exist?"

[Yeah, but don't worry he's only a Diamond rank race.]

"Suddenly, I'm calm. Can I know how many ranks that is above me."

[The race ranks go like this. Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum and Diamond. There are others, but you don't have to worry about them for now.]

"Very calming." He said with a dead eyed look.

Nick made no further noise as he sneaked towards the two chaos soldiers. All the while Telno was trying to distract him in his system interface.

As he was one meter behind one of them, he lunged forward, slitting the throat of the soldier. But as he did so the second one was quick on the uptake and rushed forward tackling Nick to the ground.

The soldier tried clawing him with his hands. Nick already expecting this took hold of his arms. Yet the soldier didn't give up and bit him in the collarbone.

With the sudden pain Nick released the soldier’s hands. The soldier didn't let that be for naught and pierced his sides with them.

Seeing the situation dire Nick found his dagger laying beside him and swung him at the enemy. Plunging it deep within. They both continued to stab each other, until one of them fell.

That being the chaos soldier he turned to particles leaving behind, but a couple of coins and his whole uniform with gear. Perhaps to mock his life and death battle.

Nick tried standing on his feet, but found them to be too heavy to move a muscle.

This story originates from a different website. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there.

"I don't think I'll make it. If you can contact my parents, brother and sister. Tell them I loved them."

[You aren’t going nowhere. Take the pouch from the uniform. There must be a skin sealing potion there. Apply it on your wound.]

With shaking hands, he searched the pouch until he came across a greenish bottle. He cared not as he poured it all over the wounds. It brought him a burning sensation as he saw his skin start crawling together.

[We aren't done yet. You've lost a lot of blood. This is nearly a whole squad they have a medic with them, that knows healing spells he also carries a healing scroll.]

With blurry eyes he searched through the two soldiers he killed. But they didn't have it. He moved to the mutilated corpse in front and felt around in the torn off parts until he found a pouch.

On it a red cross.

"At least the sign of medics is universal." He chuckled at that in relief.

"How do I-"

[Grasp the scroll in your hand and guide the energy you'll feel, coming into contact with you.]

He felt it start cruising through him bringing a soothing sensation along. Now without worries he let it make circles inside him until he felt the energy diminish.

He also went ahead and grabbed one of the rifles the soldiers were carrying, alongside some ammo.

[Move on from the corridor it's too conspicuous.]

"Yeah, yeah. Can't one enjoy a bit of rest?"

[I don't think it's time for that.]

Not letting it get to him he searched for a room with a open door, as each had a lock. He found one near the end of the corridor rushing to the balcony he found a tied bunch of electrical wires to the building across.

It was a massive garage with army vehicles, it could be seen by the mounted weapons on each and every one of them.

Nick went back into the corridor; from there he took one of the uniforms and ripped it to shreds. He bundled the leather together to form a rope and flung it on the electrical wires.

He grabbed it and tried pulling himself up from the ground. Seeing as there was no problem he swung himself forward and started sliding down the wires.

With wind in his face, he slid down right on the roof. The last meters being the most nerve racking as he let go off the rope and rolled across the roof, mitigating most of the impact. Yet he still got some minor scratches.

Already on the roof he came to the roof access, the door was wide open. Finding that unusual he prepared cocked his gun.

"Does it shoot like a regular gun?"

[Yeah, the sole difference being you can use mana as an ammo. Although these guns aren't that useful against enemies with magical protection.]

"Why's that?" He said as he moved down the staircase.

[It can only bear a certain amount of magic. Meaning it roughly equals the damage a normal bullet would do. While even the most basic Mana barrier can shield you from that.]

"Then what's good against magic?"

[Other types of magic or striking the enemy before he knows about you. That's the sole reason you managed to defeat that shaman. Otherwise, he would have wiped the floor with you.]

"Shit I still haven't checked the loot from it."

He continued moving downwards until he got on the bottom floor where he saw the cars from up close. He looked through them and saw an empty space where one of the cars was supposed to be.

"Isn't the whole city overtaken by the chaos energy. How could there be someone capable of driving?"

[You're forgetting something. There are still people from the tutorial like you. You were supposed to get transported into multiple facilities across the city, but in the last second, I had to randomize the coordinates of every one of you across the city.]

"Are there any other cities like this?"

[Yeah, that's what the coordinates I gave into your map are for. It's to the star Reaver city. There are two others, but they are further. Each city was for one race.]

"And how far is it from here?"

[Approximately your original planets circumference.]

"You've got to be joking."

[No, I've always been serious.]

"How long will it take?"

[The best route I found, takes 20 days of constant driving.]

"Is it really necessary?"

[There will be a chaos energy spike in the next 7 days so yes, it is. Not to mention this is a direct order coming from the collective of generals. Not fulfilling it, will be marked a deserter.]

Nick grumbled a bit before taking one vehicle that looked like a humvee with a mounted machine gun on top. He found the keys in of the lockers on the wall.

Inside the car was quite spacious. He laid on the seat after locking the car.

[Task: Finding your new place in the new World

Monsters killed: 178 Score: 3015

Rewards: Squad leader rank]

"Sweet does that mean that I have a squad to lead?"

[Not really, you'll have to recruit one or get assigned squad mates in the Star Reaver City.]

"That kind of sucks to be honest."

[You know what should suck more. The fact you could have been a company commander with the score you managed. But you were deemed to be too risk taking and mentally immature to handle that role.]

"Who made such a foolish decision?"

[Me.]

"Yeah, then I understand it. So, you're like a supervisor. I never told you this, but you aren't such a bitch although you're a supervisor."

[Please language and I can hear that.]

"That was a compliment you know. You aren't bad in character, but still are a supervisor so you aren't such a bitch."

[Okay, thanks then. All though I think that you're just making fun of me.]

"Oh, I wouldn't dare." He said and looked through his inventory, finding the two items he previously tossed there.

[ Sacrificial dagger

Common

Used for the sacrifices to the old gods. These daggers are a favourite for the ease at which they slice and let blood flow.

Blood letting (passive)- Leaves behind Chaos energy, making the wound slow the process of sealing.]

He took it out, inspecting it. It was no more than ten centimetres long blade with irregularly serrated edge. He tried slashing one of the leather strips and strapped it to his belt.

[ Necklace of Regeneration

Common

Blessed by the mana, as the core is one of the naturally occurring minerals of Manium, bringing forth unexpected benefits.

Mana breathing (passive)- increases the natural recovery of mana by a small margin.]

Nick took it out and wore it. It looked no more than one of the minerals, you'd get in the souvenir store. He also took a look at his status.

"It seems I'm all set. "Just as Nick was about to start the engine, he heard a sound coming from outside the garage. He quietly moved behind the chair, so as not to be seen.

He observed as a group of four people sneaked through the side doors. On top of their heads, they had soldiers alongside human written in holographic letters.

"Hey dude or rather squad lead. How about you leading us?" One of the dudes from the group called out and started walking over.
