Chapter 3 – Drowning the King

Chapter 3 – Drowning the King

In one of the hundreds of millions of starting Dungeons a chase was occurring.

Nick was running from the rats as fast as he could. At first, he tried drawing them out with noise, but after some time they stopped responding and this was the only way.

He ran, but the rats were fast on his heels. Red glowing eyes without a thought behind them that's what they became thanks to the berserk state they were put into.

All the way behind the rats the Rat King was being carried by the rats while red blood with glowing shards in it was sliding down his legs onto the Dungeon. The long trail it left stood as the testament to the determination of both parties.

He managed to attack it in one instance when he got close enough to throw one of his daggers. But even then, his aim is shit without any kind of prior experience or skill. He hit the Rat King with luck on his side, but then this was the result.

But as it looked like the human at the front was cornered his face flashed a smirk as he looked behind himself and started bashing against the wall.

Meanwhile the first rat got close to attack, which it did with so much ferocity that It wombled Nick. His feet tightly clenched in the jaws off one rat while others were about to attack. His grin off his face, replaced with a serious look all the while carving and bashing his dagger against the rock wall.

As another rat jumped on his back, he felt more water rushing between his fingers. But soon it was replaced with blood as the rat gnawed and clawed at his hand.

His dagger slipped out of hand. He paid it no mind and thrown down the rat off him. Before pummelling the wall with his fist.

Each hit drawing blood. His knuckles feeling as if burning yet he sped up as he heard the incoming rats.

He delivered one last final blow before the rats grouped up on him.

On the same planet now named Gurang by the Universe Council. In one of the command centres that was transported. Was a meeting in progress, that would shape the future of this planet.

"We're in the 55th hour before the tutorial ends and yet we don't even have completed the mapping of the planet. If it continues this way by the time the tutorial ends and the monsters come we'll have another tragedy like the Astaroti planet." Yuvi Sha a tall Ork general with ashen hair said. Grim expression adorned his face as he looked at all the people around.

"You're talking as if your task is completed." A tiny fairy, Ignis Ir a general in charge of the fairies, said with ferocity unbecoming of her size.

"I think there's plenty of time for everyone to complete their tasks." Hank Tu'val a human general that looked to be in his mid-thirties said.

"No shit, I don't know why he's stressing it's not like the fate of the World is at stake." Kiara Zeta a young woman of the Star Reaver race said. She had a pale complexion with tattoos adoring her body. Crawling all the way under her eye.

"Little Squirt, watch your mouth when you're talking to your seniors." Yuvi said while glancing at Ignis.

Just as Ignis was about to retort and rip his head to shreds a hologram got activated which showed a projection of a woman.

She trailed her fingers through her long black hair in frustration seeing the room in such disarray. She had no choice, but to appear this way rather than individually to each.

[I think this is enough. You were chosen by me and the council to lead this defense and there's no tolerance of defeat. Neither of infighting.] She said with a somewhat mechanical voice.

"Of course, we are ready to serve the Universe and the council. But..." Before Ignis could finish the same voice interrupted her.

[Do I have to make myself clear?]

"No, Telno."

[Now we wanted all of you to hear this at the same time. There'll be a surge in chaotic energy passing here. It was just divined.]

"And our logistics will be cut off until it stops. Correct?" Hank asked having the general logistics under him.

[Yes, that's right. Because of that the Arvandi Empire will provide additional supplies before it hits. The first impact will thankfully be 7 days later.]

"Didn't the Empire not support our case? I wonder why the sudden change. Hmm." Kiara said while fiddling with the badges on her uniform.

[They were advised enough and had signed contracts with each other, beneficial for both parties.] Telno said and sat on a chair she manifested within the hologram.

"Back to the matter at hand. " Yuvi said while looking at everyone in the room "What are our tasks now?"

The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.

[The tasks will remain the same with a few tweaks.]

They spent an hour going about the tasks and how to complete them. They communicated their commands through Telno to all their troops and got back to work.

"What are the expected casualties if everything goes according to plan?" Whispered Hank under his breath.

[30 to 50%. It was the minimum I could come up with. Why didn't you ask this in the meeting?] In his vision a smaller Telno got visible.

"Didn't want to cause more alarm than there already is."

[Understandable.]

Water washed onto the ground a body of a human. Wet and bruised, cuts all over his skin, in some places torn muscle. Not a sign of him breathing.

Yet as if on cue a soft cough was heard before it turned into violent puking off water.

[Welcome back to the world of the living, bastard. :)]

Nick didn't even manage to get his bearing before he started coughing some more from what he heard.

"Some nice encouraging words you got for me."

[I warned you about what will happen even if you succeed. With the excuse of the thinking, you call a plan.]

"But look I survived and killed all the rats." He looked all around himself and saw washed up rats all around himself.

[Yeah, you did it, good job. That's something you'd like to hear, right? Guess what you're stupid suicidal idiot.]

"Maybe, yeah. What's that got to do with you, tho?" He waited for any kind of response, but didn't get any. Although he seemed to hear some puffing and cursing.

He bandaged himself up as his health indicator was flashing in the crimson colour.

Afterwards he checked his map and started killing all of the remaining enemies until he came across the Rat King, struggling on the ground he stood on his three still functioning legs.

But even that proved to be a futile struggle as Nick used him as a live target for throwing daggers. When it came to the last dagger Nick had in him the Rat King already had three stuck in itself.

He walked straight to it and without further ado plunged his dagger into its neck, staring into its face. He watched as it turned into two items on the ground.

[ Race Changing Gem

Common

Changes the race of the one who consumes it. It's a random change unless one has some DNA and mana traces of the race the person wishes to change to.

Not very liked for the fact it only changes Common races.]

[ Mana Charged Scroll

Common

Mana usage: depends on the desired effect

When fully charged one gets +100% to the damage on their next attack.

There's no mastery as it's the most primitive use of mana there can be.]

"Okay, what now I killed all the rats in the Dungeon."

[You can be transported to the next one as you still haven't adapted to the Chaos energy. If you go just do things more carefully.]

"Yeah, I will" he said absent mindedly as he got focused on what popped up on his interface.

[ Achievement gained: Hundred enemies killer

Rewards: Inventory]

He wasted no time and quickly opened. He saw a space of 1 cubic meter open in his vision. He stashed away all the items he got so far.

[ Achievement gained: Tutorial Conqueror

Rare

Gained by those who have used what could be used to their benefits and killed everything inside the Tutorial Dungeon.

Rewards: Title Unexpected Surprise, Random passive trait gem, +1000 score to the Tutorial quest.]

[ Achievement gained: Dungeon Conqueror

Common

Gained upon Conquer of first Dungeon

Rewards: Random skill scroll]

[ Title: Unexpected Surprise

+25% more loot dropped while in the Dungeon.]

[ Participant can now be transported into another Dungeon waiting for participant to make their choice. Difficulty: Easy/Medium/Hard/Hell ]

"What should I choose now?" He said as he scratched his chin as if in deep thought.

[Whatever Difficulty you choose just please wait and first of all use all your rewards.] Telno paused for a bit before continuing. [You're really frustrating to deal with. You know nearly everybody else is overly cautious or if not, they lose their life because of arrogance.]

"And you see, I still haven't lost my life that would mean I'm cautious enough."

[Cautious my ass. If this is caution then everyone else must be downright paranoid and delusional.]

"There you have your answer."

[You're frustrating to deal with. You know that?]

He just smiled at those words.

[Just use the rewards god dam nit.]

He took out a gem that was sparkling even without any direct light hitting it.

"Random passive trait gem, hmm. Am I like supposed to eat it?"

[No just close your eyes and concentrate on feeling it.]

He did as he was told and sat down on the ground eyes closed. Not long after he felt some kind of energy at his fingertips as if waiting for his confirmation to invade him he let it.

[Trait: Flexible

Gains the full range of motion for every tendon.]

He felt a burning pain overtake him as if his muscles were being melted off. He was left paralyzed on the ground, but visibly his wounds were getting somewhat better.

[+1 Body]

He saw as the pain ended in the corner of his eye.

"Why did it-" He couldn't finish as Telno beat him to it.

[Because of all the previous battles you were already about to upgrade it yourself. This was just a side benefit brought by the lengthening of your muscles and tendons.]

"Any other side effects I should know?"

[Hey, it's only benefits and nothing else. Besides you're the guy that doesn't care for what happens.]

"So, that's how you view me?" He said as he pouted.

[Yeah.] Telno said and giggled.

He paid it no mind and continued through his rewards. He set aside the Race Change gem as he is not yet keen on changing his race if it's on the same Rank as a human. He then took out the Random Skill Scroll and watched as it changed before his eyes.

[ A fool's escape

Common

Mana cost: low

+50% to movement speed while running away from enemies.

-Upon mastery gain Sandy steps. Sandy steps a cloud of dust will be formed as you run, making it harder for enemies to chase you.

A fool's greatest trick is to know when their stay is overdue and escape.]

He started studying both skill scrolls he got. It took him a few hours but he gained one of the skills in his system panel.

"By the way why can't I be just dropped out of the Dungeon? You know since I completed the tutorial. The Chaos energy can't be that bad. I mean the rats were mutated thanks to it, but that's about it."

[I'll say it like this if you were transported out right now. You'll either devolve into a meat blob, mentally insane or mutate and become a humanoid monster.]

"Well, I'm certainly too handsome to become either."

[Yeah, keep lying to yourself. But really the Chaos energy would flow through you. Opening wounds along the way while simultaneously healing them. You can imagine the pain you would feel. All the while even breathing would be difficult. You'd wish for death but it won't come.]

"What a great outlook. Is there a way to sign up?"

[Yeah, sure just click this.]

On his system a new notification popped up.

[ Leave Dungeon: Yes/No.]

"I think I'll pass on this great opportunity."

[Thought so.]

Feeling sleepy Nick found a spot and started counting sheep.
