Aint nobody got time for that
Aaaah~ Side drags me by the tail into the libRary, ‘’d-d-d-don’t tOuch thaT!’’ iT makes me feel weird! yanking my tail from her Hold whIle StRoking iT and sEnding a fEw more jolts of electricity up my spiNe I follow side as we explore the library, she already paid the toll for the both of us, the elf dude is with us too come to think of it, what is his name?
‘’Hey, what's your name again? I don’t think you mentioned it’’ the floating elf reveals a shocked face ‘’AH! I never got to tell you! Silly me, my name is Illuminate but you can call me I or Nate, you are from outside right? I've always wanted to leave this tree and explore the open world! But everyone says ‘light elves always die first’ or ‘you will just cause everyone troubles with that big mouth of yours’ I mean, seriously! Can you believe that!’’ he said something about wanting to leave, is this a flag? I don’t really want to give my trust only for him to stab me in the back and betray me later, once is enough.
I read some elven picture books to pass the time making sure to be extra careful not to damage them while Side is looking in the magic section, now that I think about it, how can she read books? What language are we speaking? Because of the auto-translating skill I never know if everyone is speaking different or the same languages,
are all these books in elven or human? Is there a worldwide language or is side able to read everything and just never brought it up? This is one of the downsides of the translation skill; you never know what anyone is actually saying. I'm not even going to question how she can read books when all she can see is mana and heat.
After a while of chilling, Side bursts into our little corner from another section of the library unable to hide her excitement while holding up a book titled ‘new discoveries from the large manaron collider’ with what I presume to be shining eyes while visibly panting ‘’SU! Look at this! It’s the latest edition of magic monthly and it even focuses on the large manaron collider made by the dwarves! They found so much stuff it's amazing! Look! Look!’’ side shoves the book at my face opened to a specific page
What was once theorized hundreds of years ago by the famous archmage gitgudscrb wunveewunme on his theory of string like mana has now been confirmed by the findings from the large manaron collider By smashing beams of magic together at extreme speeds we have discovered the very building blocks of our world! The latest findings confirm that mana exists in two states as a string that vibrates at different frequencies, the first state is the physical state, this mana is rigid and everything you see, hear or touch, the second state is freeform mana, this is the mana we’re all familiar with, the type wizards use to shoot magic projectiles and exists everywhere.
What is most interesting however is that all mana vibrates at certain frequencies, these frequencies are what determines what element it is i.e. a low-frequency mana wave is the earth element, in the physical state this makes rocks. Shift the frequency a bit and you get the metal element, be even more specific and you get the iron element. Since finding this we created categories for the different frequencies like ‘earth, water, air, fire’ while in those categories are subcategories in-between, joint or inside like ‘metal, ice, wind, light, plant, dark, electricity’ and going even more specific would get you pretty much anything.
Freeform mana influences physical mana in various ways, this is how mages influence the world around them, by commanding their freeform mana to change frequency they can enchant, strengthen, heal, create, change and influence the world around them, it is unknown exactly what conditions it takes for mana to convert from freeform to physical as we are unable to replicate the right circumstances required.
The magic mana mages use to ‘create’ things aren’t actually physical, since the objects created by mages disappear over time it is thought that we ‘summon objects from another plane’ and they are just teleporting back, after continuous study, we discovered that the ‘objects’ that mages create are a version of freeform mana we dub ‘semi-formed mana’, mana that disperses over time back into freeform that any magical creature can use and even exists in nature.
This solves the age-old question ‘what is magic?’ magic is the control of freeform mana, changing its frequency to produce the desired effect. Mages however, are unable to change the frequencies of physical mana over like they can with freeform busting the idea of free gold and semi-formed mana distinctly feels different to physical so that also busts the idea of forging money with magic.
Intelligence up Wisdom up Wisdom up
I don’t really understand what this book is saying but I think its something profound? which looks like a really convoluted and complicated way of saying ‘its magic’ to explain away all our problems. At least I now have a better idea on how to picture my crazy suck ability to make magic, I head over to where Side is approximately buried under a pile of fuzzy books and place this book on one of the mountains and go exploring the different sections.
If you spot this tale on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.
I arrive at a gloomy section of the library, books glitching out like an old computer, Why are these novels so weird? What's up with these titles? Yarnpanda, people enjoy abundant boxes, randy spectrewolf, snek, the starter curvemage, the first below skies, above, transparent wyvern and my cheat skill sucks, what kind of place did I just wander into? This section of the library feels really strange, like it's not meant to be here, I promptly turn around heading towards the opposite direction avoiding the fact that that section blinked out of reality with a gentle ‘vooop’ sound.
Another section of the library is frilly pink with love hearts everywhere, what is this meant to be? How are love hearts universal? Scanning through the bookshelves I spot; 50 gradients of light, light with no sun, oemor and etteiluj, forever single, booko no picture, finger crossed acquaintance, the faulty insides of our sun, snd bob nd vegene, are all these books real? Heading to another section I'm greeted with the fantasy section. I think. Is it still fantasy if there are actual knights and dragons or would that be a normal book? Geez, how many sections does this library have? Oh right, it spans the entire freaking tree down the middle.
WOOONG WOOOOONG an ear piercing noise mixed with something else resonates throughout the city ''WARNING! CALAMITY LEVEL THREAT APPROACHING! WOOD ELEMENTAL SPOTTED! EVACUATE IMMEDIATELY!'' What is going on! What is this noise! A warning? Wood elemental? Wouldn’t those be helpful? I sprint my way through the library dodging the panicking elves along the way till I meet back with side and I, ‘’what is going on!’’ I yell at them over the blaring warning sirens
‘’A wood elemental was spotted, we are doomed’’ wavered I with a pale face
