“Hmm. Where am I?” Misen asks as she is laying in a bed staring at an unfamiliar roof.
I remember drinking the poison then going on a rampage though the exact details are foggy. Do I wait to meet whoever brought me here or should I escape? She thinks while looking around the room.
Misen begins to get ready to grab her stuff when someone walks into the room. The person who walked in was an average height man wearing a brown tunic. He had short curly light brown hair.
“So you are awake now. You were out for a couple days. I know it’s rude because you just woke up but I’m gonna ask you some questions.” The man asks as he pulls a stool and sits across from Misen.
“Sure, why not. I’ve got all the time in the world.” Misen responds.
“What is your name?” The man asks Misen.
“Misen.” She responds.
“Did you slay that giant leech?” He asks.
“Yes I did.” Misen nods her head.
“Are you a registered adventurer or mercenary?”
“No. I am not” Misen shakes her head.
“What was your business so close to the nation of Stellarina?” He asks with a concerned look.
“I did not realize Stellarina was close. I thought I was in a secluded area.” Misen sighed.
“Despite your lack of injuries, there was a lot of human blood, was that from you?”
“Yes, it’s not like I had no injuries, I just healed myself.”
“Using healing potions?” He asked, trying to figure out how this woman killed the mythical beast with no visible injuries.
“Yea.” She nodded in affirmation.
We did see an empty bottle where she was and it’s possible there were more that we didn’t find. The man was piecing together a story from what he’d seen. The real truth was unfathomable so he was making it easier for Misen.
“Please register as either a mercenary or an adventurer. You are far too suspicious to wander around without any identification. It stressed me and my men out seeing all those corpses slain by some unknown woman.” He sighed.
“Haha, you let your true thoughts out sir.” Misen chuckled at the relieved man. “So, who are you? You mentioned something about having men and I’m assuming you dragged me here to Stellarina.” She questioned him.
“Ah sorry, I forgot to introduce myself. I am Lieval Calin, the captain of the Stellarina knights.” He said as he stood up and bowed.
“Alright, I’ll register with the adventurers guild later.”
“Nope! We are going now! If you are strong enough to slay such a massive beast. I’m sure you’ll become famous as either a mercenary or adventurer. There are a few famous ones like Nivio and Vo-. Hey are you listening? Oh well, also there is a new set of clothes over there.” Lieval points at the stacked clothes.
Misen looks down and sees that the clothes she was wearing were ruined and tattered. Ah that’s right, the poison damaged my clothes as it tore through my body. She remembered. “Are you gonna stay and watch me change, or are you going to give me some privacy.” She snarkily said to Lieval.
“Oh sorry my bad.” He quickly rushes out and slams the door behind him.
“So loud.” Misen sighs as she scratches her head.
Misen gets dressed into the clothes provided, grabs her equipment, and then exits out of the door. Then walks down the stairs. It seems I was brought to an inn. She thinks as she walks down the stairs.
“So the clothes fit you perfectly, that's good.” Lieval smiles.
“Yeah, they do. Did you measure me while I was sleeping?” Misen says with a concerned look.
“Yes, well not me, but a local tailor. I’ve had her do my clothes before so I can vouch for the quality.” He proudly states.
“Well alright then. Lead me to the adventurer guild.” She says.
“Right away.” He exits out of the inn.
“Are you his girlfriend?” The inn lady asks with a smile.
“Nope. I’m a suspicious woman he dragged here from the desert.” Misen smiled back. The inn lady makes a confused face unable to process what she just heard.
“Alright have a nice day.” The inn lady puts her professional smile back on.
Misen follows after Lieval. The nation of Stellarina is an ever busy city. The buildings are made of wood and brick. While walking with Lieval she sees a red haired woman on a makeshift stand preaching about the gods. The woman wore a white robe with a hood on her head. She had golden colored eyes. However, she was completely ignored and not a single person listened to her speech. The woman points at someone who is injured walking by.
“You sir. I shall heal you with the power of my god Sherasil!” She calls out the man.
“I don’t need no help from some god. We are humans, we get shit done our own way, we don't need the assistance of a god. Go away!” The man spits at the ground near the woman.
The people here really don’t like the gods. Many blame the gods for letting the world become such a shit hole. Misen thinks as she continues walking. The people here believe that once they accomplish something notable, good or evil. They will become one of the stars once they die.
“We’ve arrived at our destination. The adventurers guild!” He excitedly says. Misen and Lieval arrive at a building that has a sign clearly stating it’s the adventurers guild. The exterior is clean and well made. It is made of high quality materials. The building clearly gives up the vibe of being the number one profitable location. The economy of Stellarina is so heavily reliant on adventurers and the building reflects that fact. They walk in through the front doors.
“Ah sir Lieval, We finished butchering the monsters you and your knights brought in. Including the split in half giant leech. Do you want to sell the materials from it? It will net a decent sum.” The receptionist lady asks. The receptionist lady is a short woman with golden brown hair tied in twin tails. She wore her uniform in the most textbook perfect manner.
“Actually, I would like to have this woman register into the adventurers guild.” Lieval gestures towards Misen who was standing behind him.
“Who is she? You don’t normally recommend someone to join the guild.” The receptionist lady asks, while sizing up Misen. Misen who was 5 boowin and 10 booez tall towered over the 4 boowin and 5 booez tall reception lady.
“Well, you see. She was the one who split that giant leech clean in half by herself.” Lieval said.
“Wait, she did that by herself?!” The receptionist exclaimed. Her sudden outburst shocked the other people in the guild and they all gave her a confused look. The receptionist lady was generally very stoic when it came to accomplishments, and had never made a commotion when told about an accomplishment.
“Erm. Sorry everyone.” She apologized, still flustered. However, a lot of people were now curious about what was said and listened in on the conversation. “Ahem, sorry for that so you say that you want to register as an adventurer?” She returned her professional smile.
“I don’t really have a choice, but yes I would like to register to become an adventurer.” Misen tells the receptionist.
“Alright, can you sign here and I’ll get you your identification tag.” The receptionist pulls out a piece of paper as well as a quill to write with. Misen then signs the document. “Okay, Mrs. Misen here is your tag. Please keep it on your person at all times.” The receptionist hands over a silver tag.
“Don’t rookies normally start with bronze, why is she getting a silver tag?” A random silver 3 adventurer asks. “I bet that long sword is just for show. Hey pretty lady, I'll show you how a real silver adventurer moves.”
“Fuck off, asshole.” Misen yells at him.
“If you want to challenge my decision then just fight her.” The receptionist goads the man.
“Fine. I think I’ll do just that. Come on, step outside.” The man snarled. Misen walks out with him and other adventurers come out to watch. Misen on her way out grabs some sand from the ground and clenches it in her hand. The two stand across from one another.
“The guild is not responsible for any injury that might happen. However, I’ll stop the fight should any one’s life be in danger. Now begin!” The receptionist starts the fight.
The man starts spinning his longsword and being very flashy. “Come on, are you scared? Where is that tough girl act now, haha.” He taunts Misen as he continues to spin his sword around. He then gives a taunting face leaving his face open, as Misen throws the sand from her hand into his exposed face. “You bitch!” The sand blinded his vision as he wildly started swinging. Misen casually weaved around and dodged the wild swings. He lifts his sword high above his head only for Misen to kick him in the gut. Which knocks the wind out of his lungs. She proceeds to follow the kick with a hit with her hilt to his knees causing him to fall on his butt.
“Misen wins this bout there is no reason to continue.” The receptionist announced.
“She cheated! I can’t accept this.” He proclaims as he gets back up.
“I thought you were an adventurer. My parents taught me that there is no cheating in battle, one must do everything they can to survive.” Misen sneered.
“You bitch!” He yells as he attempts to do a downward swing with his sword once again. However, the receptionist grabs his wrist and begins squeezing it.
“She didn’t even draw her sword and I said, you lost. Now get lost. Come back when you get a better attitude.” She passive aggressively tells him while squeezing his wrist. He attempts to jerk his hand free but is unable to move it.
“Fine I lost, now can you please let me go.” He whimpers.
“Good, now get lost and take the night to relax.” She tells him as she lets go of his wrist. The man retreats and heads to an inn. “Sorry for that. A lot of people were doubting your strength and he happened to be perfect for making an example out of me.” She apologizes to Misen.
“Don’t worry about it. You were right, I’m some random woman starting at silver rank.” Misen eases the receptionist’s worries.
“I gotta ask, why didn’t you draw your sword?” She asks Misen.
“I probably would’ve killed him, if I did. I trained in order to kill, so as to not be killed.” Misen coldly stated. That’s a better explanation than my sword is bloodthirsty, and I don’t have too much control over my bloodlust when I use it. She thought. “His swings were far too wide and far too easy to take advantage of.” Misen sighed.
“I see. Well, welcome to the adventurers guild Misen.” She happily said. “I’ll give you the quest reward for defeating the giant leech. So please follow me inside.” She said as she led Misen back to her counter then went back to grab a bag of coins. “For the reward you’ll get 5 platinum coins or you could convert it to 500 gold coins. It's up to you.” She tells Misen.
“I’ll take the 500 gold coins. It'll be harder to use the platinum coins.” Misen decides, and the receptionist brings out a bag of 500 gold coins. I understand the giant leech was a mythical creature and is pretty rare but 500 gold coins is a lot. Misen thought.
“You are probably wondering why the reward is so high. Well traditionally giant leeches are hunted by a party of high ranked adventurers and the profits are split among them. However, since you took care of it alone you get the entire reward.” Seemingly reading Misen’s mind she quickly explained. “Also, do you wish to keep the butchered parts or sell them to the guild?” The receptionist asked.
“I’ll sell it to the guild.” She responds. I don’t really have any use for the materials anyways.
“Are you sure? The venom in the leech can be used medicinally.” The receptionist replies.
“I’m sure.”
“Okay, I’ll get you 100 gold coins or 1 platinum coin.” The receptionist awaits Misen’s answer.
“I’ll take the platinum coin otherwise it’s gonna get too heavy and slow me down.” Misen gives her answer.
“Right away miss.” The receptionist quickly grabs a platinum coin and tosses it to Misen. “Will that be all for today?” The receptionist went back into her professional mode.
“Yes, thank you.” Misen replies, as she walks out of the guild building. “Since I’ve got some extra money, it's time to hit the tavern!” Misen excitedly says. She heads towards the nearest tavern. It's very lively. Adventurers filled up the tavern tables having a blast. They drank in celebration of a quest well done and surviving the day.
This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience.
Misen got a table and ordered some specialty hard liquor. The waitress brought out the liquor and Misen drank it as soon as she got it. “Another!” She tells the waitress. Tonight she decided to splurge on liquor because of all the extra money she got. After Misen downed four glasses the waitress brought out a barrel of liquor. She carried it to Misen’s table and said.
“I heard you got a lot of coins and I figured that glasses wouldn’t be enough so here is a full barrel.
“Thanks and I should have enough to pay for it.” Misen said as she got more drunk. While drinking from the barrel a man sat across from her at her table. “What do you want?” She asked him.
“You seemed interesting so I wanted to talk with you.” The man smiled. He was wearing typical mercenary gear. The only difference is he had a lot of knives on his person strapped to him. He had two pairs of knives on a chest vest which is an unusual spot for knives. He wore a green bandanna which held up his blonde hair. “My name is Voulin, nice to meet you strange woman.”
“I’m not strange.” She says, but Voulin glances at the empty glasses then at the barrel in her hand. “Not that strange, and I have a name, it’s Misen.” She pouts.
“Hahaha. Well, Misen, I heard you took down a giant leech by yourself. I’m rather curious what the destination of your journey is. I heard some swordswoman matching your description bought extremely potent poison from the black market in Airere. Was that you?”
“Yea that was me, why do you care?” She was completely intoxicated at this point.
“I was curious, that's all. I heard there was a glass bottle and a large amount of human blood where you were found in the desert. Did you use the poison then?”
“Yeah that glass bottle was the poison, and I drank it so the blood was mine.” She casually said as she took more sips from the barrel.
“You drank it???” Voulin was completely flabbergasted by this information. He dropped his head onto the table. His head spun around trying to process what he just heard. The poison that could kill a giant monster and destroy the body was drunk by the woman in front of him who was very much alive.
“You look confused. Are you wondering how I’m alive, despite drinking the poison?” She looks at his dumbfounded face. “It’s because I’m immortal. The poison did hurt a ton though.” She sighed. He became more confused because immortals are the stuff of legends, and he has seen this woman in the sun. “Well if you ain’t gonna buy me any drinks then I’m gonna head to an inn and crash.” She pays for her drinks and leaves the tavern.
Misen drunkenly makes her way to an inn. However, on her way there she spots that religious woman from earlier. Shit, our eyes met. Their eyes meet and the woman makes her way to the drunk Misen. “Please leave me alone.” Misen manages to get out; she did not feel like talking at all.
“I haven’t even said anything yet.” The woman pouts. “I already know that the people here are not open to the gods. However, it is my duty to repay my god for letting me use his power in order to heal troubled souls.” She begins to preach.
“I already said to leave me alone. Now if you’ll excuse me I’ve got to crash at an inn. Good night!” Misen says as she begins to speed walk to an inn. She gets in leaving the woman alone, stunned.
“Did she really just walk away from me while I was in the middle of talking? O god of power Sherasil, please grant me strength to continue to spread the good word of your power.” She prayed to her god.
There are nine main gods: Alyja Goddess Of Love,
Udione Goddess Of Harvest, Kenja Goddess Of Sea, Orphine Goddess Of Vengeance, Veline Goddess Of Chaos, Buvmos God Of Judgement, Chobus God Of Land, Eruer God Of The Trade, and Sherasil God Of Power. However, there are many lesser divine beings not quite considered gods. While they do not usually interact with the lower world, many claim to have met divine beings. This room for doubt is what led to places like Stellarina existing where they don’t completely believe in the existence of gods. Some believe the gods did exist, but they abandoned humanity.
“Urgh.. I drank too much last night.” Misen groaned, waking up on the floor next to her bed in the inn. “I remember most of what happened, I met some guy at the tavern and that Sherasil worshiper woman. Well today is a new day. Might as well hunt for some monsters to make some more coin.” Misen said, as she got herself up from the ground and grabbed her stuff and left the inn.
“I can’t believe you ignored me like that last night.” Said a woman blocking Misen’s path.
“Who are you again?” Misen said, then she got a good look at her face. “Ohhh. The Sherasil worshiper. What do you want?” Misen, remembering her, asked.
“I am Frey, proud worshiper and loyal servant of Sherasil.” Frey officially introduced herself.
“Hi Frey, I don’t care.” Misen retorted. Misen walked towards the exit of the Stellarina to go hunt some monsters. Misen was unaware that she had not one but two people following her. Frey, the one who was terrible at hiding, and Voulin who took an interest in Misen from yesterday. She entered the forest where monsters are said to roam. “Let the hunt begin.” Misen said, as she drew her blade and started running. She ran at a superhuman speed and she encountered some goblins. One goblin attempted to swing its wooden club. Misen cut clean through it and the goblin’s neck. Misen cut through more goblins and their blood would spill out from their wounds. Only for Misen to absorb it into her sword. I’m still not completely used to using a roughly 3 boowin long katana. I’m getting far closer than I need to be out of habit. It could work but not using the extra length is a waste. She kept killing any goblin that got in her way. However, she didn’t collect the corpses as she felt she could hunt something better. Next, she moved onto ogres. However, they too were no match as she cleanly cut through them all without being touched. Because Misen was leaving the corpses, she accidentally attracted an oni which consumed the corpses. Onis were a little rarer, but they were decently strong as they wielded magic and human weapons. The first to notice the oni coming was Frey. The oni that Misen had attracted was a flame oni. It was tall, muscular, red haired, and it wielded a steel greatclub. It caught Misen off guard and she attempted to block with her blade using a horizontal block. The greatclub went right through Misen’s blade and shattered it and flattened Misen. The blade is broken so I must be actually dead now. Misen thought. Voulin looked at Misen surprised, and believed that she had died and began to leave. Frey screamed out, also believing that Misen died. Frey hood came off revealing wolf ears. Her scream caused the oni to go for her and it charged a fireball aimed at her. Misen’s body reshaped itself beginning from her legs. Also her blade repaired itself as well, though at a slightly slower rate. “So this thing regenerated too huh. Frey I thought I told you to leave me alone.” Misen shook her head. “Hey asshat, I’m back.” Hearing Misen’s voice Voulin went back to where he was watching Misen. The oni looked confused as it knew it crushed her. Misen felt the flow of blood while the blade regenerated. She focused on that flow which caused blood to start dripping from the blade. She slashed and the Oni blocked it, but the blood on the blade went into the eyes of the Oni, blinding it. The oni’s guard went down and Misen severed its head from its body. Misen then stored the head in a bag and started to carry the corpse to the guild.
“Aren’t you going to ask if I’m okay?” Frey asked Misen.
“I’m no knight, you should’ve known the risks of following me into the forest.” Misen coldly states.
“Well I’ll be damned, you were telling the truth after all. I saw you get flatten and your body reshaped itself.” Voulin says as he reveals himself to Misen and Frey.
“Uh you were.” Misen tilted her head.
“Voulin, we met in the tavern while you were drunk.”
“Ah that’s right, so you followed me too.” She replied, the memories coming back to her.
“I saw you leaving town alone to hunt, and head far into the forest. Which is quite unusual for a newly registered adventurer. See most go with a party when heading this deep into the forest.” Voulin sighed. “Well anyways, you don’t need to take the entire corpse with you.”
“You don’t?” Misen asks, confused.
“You really are a newly registered adventurer. You just need to take the valuable parts like the eyes, horns, and ears, and for an oni you might as well sell the greatclub. Someone might get a use for it whether they melt it down for material or use it for other reasons.” Voulin explained.
“Thank you teacher.” Misen nods her head making a mental note of what he was telling her.
“Don’t call me that.” He bonks her on the head.
“You ass, I was complimenting you.” She hissed.
“We are around the same age, no need for you to call me teacher. I’m just giving a friend advice, that's all.” He sighed.
“You two seem chummy. How come you are nice to him but not me.” Frey, annoyed, says.
“Simple, cause he is knowledgeable and isn’t a liability.” Misen flatly responded.
“I’m not a liability, I have my god’s protection. I can heal and grant temporary blessings.” Frey says as she places her hand over her heart.
“So you are a support. One who attempted to follow a mysterious person you don’t know very well into a deep part of the forest.” Misen’s words seemed to pierce right through Frey causing her to recoil.
“You seemed like a good person. You knew my lord’s name after all.” Frey responds.
“How naïve, I’m not the person you think I am. I’ve killed, lied, and stolen. All for the sake of reaching my goal to kill the bastard who killed my family. However, when I tried to join my family I was instead cursed with immortality by a bloodthirsty sword.” Misen, who was overwhelmed with her emotions, replied.
“By the gods, I had no idea.” Frey muttered her wolf ears went down.
“A church dog wouldn’t understand.” Misen lashed out. After an awkward silence, Voulin tells Misen.
“Last night you mentioned that if you wanted to continue our conversation I would have to buy you some drinks. I’m going to take you up on that offer.” Voulin and Misen started to head back together. The walk back was an awkward and silent one. Frey had put her hood back on once again hiding her ears. She separated from Voulin and Misen and went to the inn she was staying at. While Misen and Voulin went to the adventurers guild to sell the oni parts. After selling the parts, Misen and Voulin arranged for a time to meet at the tavern to drink. In the meantime Misen went back to her inn room.
“I fucked up. I shouldn’t have snapped at Frey like that. She said her god protected her which means something must have happened. My view on this world has become so twisted. When was the last time I genuinely felt like I had faith in humanity. Being so trusting is far better than what I am. I’ll have to apologize to her.” Misen just sat on her bed in the inn room letting it all out. “Wait that’s right she is a red wolf woman, I’m an idiot. Now I feel worse, I will absolutely apologize to her next time I see her.” Misen wallowed in her thoughts until it was time for her to meet with Voulin.
Misen headed towards the tavern and Voulin was waiting for her in front of it.
“Have you been waiting long?” Misen asked, seeing Voulin standing there.
“Not at all, I got here only a couple moments before you. Now let us drink!” Voulin gleefully said. They got a table by the window and began drinking. They got some ale and after a couple rounds. Misen began opening up on what she was thinking.
“Man, I really messed up. I shouldn’t have snapped at her, her positive attitude isn’t something that she should be shamed for. Especially since she is a red wolf woman. I’m sure you know what happened to most of the red wolf people. I can’t believe I was so mean to her for no reason. I’m a terrible person.” Misen released all that was on her mind about Frey.
“I didn’t realize she was a red wolf woman either. There aren’t too many of them left. However, it’s alright I’m sure she’ll bounce back from the mean things you said. Although you should apologize if you feel bad about it.” Voulin responded while taking sips of his ale.
“Hey, did I hear you say you know a red wolf woman?” Asked one of the tavern goers.
“Yeah, why do you ask?” Misen replied.
“I hope she is safe, as I’ve heard some kidnappers are in the area at night.” Almost right on cue, Misen sees Frey being carried by some suspicious individuals outside the window.
“Voulin, Frey has been kidnapped. You take care of the bill. I'll go on ahead.” Misen bolts out of the tavern to run after Frey.
“Oh okay. The food and drinks were great, thank you.” Voulin paid for all the things they got. He then ran after Misen who was chasing the kidnappers. He caught up to Misen using a shortcut that went to where he predicted they were heading. The district was a quieter one and most crimes that wanted to go unnoticed took place there. Unfortunately, because of Frey’s holy robes no one felt the inclination to help her.
“We finally got our hands on a red wolf girl just like the client wanted.” One of the masked kidnappers gleefully said while running. The kidnapper had knocked Frey unconscious so she wouldn’t resist. The kidnappers were working in pairs with one carrying the target, and the other keeping track of any pursuers.
“Hey we have two pursuers on our trail. One swordswoman and the other is a mercenary. I’ll call for backup because things might get a little messy.” The other kidnapper told his partner. He ripped a magical paper which alerted their team that they needed backup.
Behind them were Misen and Voulin. “You caught up rather quickly.” Misen said while continuing to run through the streets.
“I had a feeling they were going to go through this district. It’s the district with the largest amount of crime after all. Also we’ve got company, it seems they had backup on standby.” He replies as he spots the new group of individuals. The group attempts to intercept Misen and Voulin. The first, attempts to stab Misen with a spear, however she grabs it and redirects it into the ground then kicks them out of the way which knocks them out. Voulin uses the spear to clear away two attackers in front of him with a swipe. However, this snaps the wooden spear in the process. The two attackers are sent into a wall and knocked unconscious. Only two remain from the backup; one attempts to fire a fireball while the other throws knives. Misen uses a quickdraw to slice the fireball in half and continues running. Voulin catches the knives and throws them back at them aiming for their feet and legs.
“Knives are my thing, did they really think they could use them against me haha.” He shakes his head while letting out a light chuckle.
“I’m not sure if they knew that. Although, your attire really screams. Hi, I use knives. Seriously, why do you need so many, on your body? Couldn’t you have them hidden in a bag or something rather than out in the open.” She sighed. The entire squad of backup was completely destroyed, they didn’t even slow the pair down at all.
“These knives on my chest are quite special and you’ll find out why.” He replied. The pair had almost caught up to the original pair of kidnappers when the one who wasn’t holding Frey started to run towards them. Voulin attempts to hit him away but is unsuccessful. “I’ll hold this one off while you continue on ahead.” Voulin tells Misen while he attempts to subdue his foe.
“Got it! Don’t go dying to your own knives as it doesn’t look like that one is carrying any weapons.” Misen says, while rushing towards Frey. As Misen follows Frey’s kidnapper, Voulin begins his bout with the masked muscular kidnapper.
“Why are you chasing after that red wolf?” asked the kidnapper.
“Ah, I recognize that voice. The one who wants the wolf must be someone rich, as you are pretty pricey. I know you won’t tell me who your client is, as that is part of the mercenary code. To answer your question, it's because she is interesting.” Voulin replied while getting into a fighting stance while keeping mobile with his legs.
“I’ve heard of you as well, throwing knife master Voulin. To think we would be on opposing sides. I’m rather interested in taking a bite out of you. Of course, you are free to abandon the girl as she isn’t a client of yours. I’ll let you go if you do though.” The kidnapper cockily said.
“You are right this isn’t a job but a personal matter. However, you should know, if I find someone interesting then I’ll never abandon them. Get ready to die, Nivio.” Voulin cracked his knuckles and readied some throwing knives. Nivio readied his fist and the first strike came from Voulin’s throwing knives. Nivio grabs one midair and dodges the rest then throws the knife back at a lightning quick speed. Voulin dodged the returned knife. “I wanted to end this quickly and rejoin her, but you ain’t making this easy for me.”
“Good dodge. It would be a real shame if this ended so quickly.” Nivio smirked. Nivio ran up close and began to swing with a combination of left and right jabs. Each of the jabs were deflected or dodged. However, Voulin was being backed into a corner.
This isn’t good. I'm being pushed back and I can’t seem to find an opening. What should I do? Voulin was trying to think of how he could end this. I’ve got an idea. He came up with a potential answer. He tossed a knife into the air.
“What do you plan to accomplish by throwing one up there?” Nivio followed the knife with his eyes. While he was distracted for a split second Voulin instantly threw knives into Nivio's chest. “You clever bastard. However, I don't think this will be enough to shake me. I’ve got my pride as a mercenary to uphold.”
“So this will be a fight to the death. How unfortunate, I would’ve preferred to avoid needless deaths.” Voulin sighed. Nivio still came in strong with quicker punches and kicks. Nivio hit Voulin with a strong kick which knocked Voulin into a nearby wall. Nivio grabbed one of the knives that was on Voulin’s chest. Nivio went in for the kill, and Voulin was shocked that Nivio had grabbed his special knives after hitting him. This made for the perfect opening for Nivio to take advantage of.
“Now die!” Nivio stabs Voulin with the knife. However, Voulin smirks as no blood comes out and he slashes Nivio’s throat while Nivio is surprised.
“As they say, a person’s most vulnerable moment is right when they are going in for the finishing blow. You were blinded by the seemingly decisive blow that you didn’t realize the blade was fake. Sad to see that Stellarina has lost a mercenary legend. Dying while on a job is truly the most fitting death for mercenaries like us. Rest in peace Nivio.” Voulin said as he quickly tried to hurry in the direction where Misen and Frey were heading.
“Nivio isn’t back yet, did that bastard actually fail. I’ve still got this swordswoman on my tail. Damn it! The client won’t be happy. Now the red wolf is waking up as well.” The kidnapper cursed their own luck.
“Where am I? This isn’t my inn bed. Put me down you bastard.” Frey started squirming to break out of the kidnappers grasp. The kidnapper puts Frey down. “Oh thank you.” She says shocked. However, he then pulls a knife to her throat.
“Swordswoman, put your sword down and walk away if you want her to survive.” The kidnapper says while threatening Frey’s life.
“So you’ve decided to go the coward’s way of using a hostage.” Misen glared at him.
