Show of Good Faith

Show of Good Faith

Travis agreed to the truce.

"A gift from the Western Alliance should arrive in your region soon. Please welcome them with open arms."

When Travis first heard of this he thought that it would only be a small care package, but instead he was met with an assortment of new "Allies". In the long message that he received from the Strong-armed magician himself, these soldiers are meant to his show of good faith. Reinforcements that can act as additional guards for his island.

"So they're spies... he's planting moles in my base and telling me that they're a show of good faith."

There were three boats, each with a few soldiers. All of them were somewhere in the Silver-grade. "Noah, order some undead to clean up parts of the old town. None of them are to step foot anywhere near our important buildings."

The visitors were all considered friendly units, with a total of 20 of them. Though he knew that it was only for show, at the front of the group headed by the General of the Western Coast herself were a few guards. The same ones that she had with her just a few days ago.

Silver-grades, especially those who have grown in the local rankings were quite confident in themselves. But this confidence would soon disappear as the Gold-grades guided them to the island, A Demon and a Sea Serpent.

"Shishishi, the Lord will be pleased with these Soldiers Lady Samantha!" The flying red demon, Gitax floated about right next to the Manta Ray that the general was riding.

"But of course, Mister Montes is considered a VIP by the Western Alliance. A handful of soldiers is but a small gift for his cooperation." Samantha was a visitor, a friendly one but she knew that the pride of a demon was based off of strength. Which meant that for this demon to treat her like this spoke leaps and bounds about the contract that it was under.

"Zekna, you can go back on your patrol now. I'll handle our guests." Gitax presented himself well for a demon, but his aura made it hard for regular humans to even respond to him normally. As such those that were near the two were forced to just listen to their conversation.

They soon reached the docks.

"Greetings, Mister Montes." Samantha Grey gave him a small bow. "As a VIP that is on good terms with our Alliance, we have prepared a small gift for you!"

"A gift, I see. What does this gift entail? I thought that the truce was our only deal." Travis, had a hunch that there was something going on under the surface. After all, their relationship was only created to keep the peace. 'There must be an ulterior motive, Spies. Yeah they're likely spies.'

"We have heard that your region has been under fire from a few Invaders, a bit of reinforcements should help you in dealing with them." Samantha kept a friendly expression, smiling at him.

"I see, Vantak has been fighting at Lindburg against a nearly endless horde of demons and the Light Church. I think I can make some use of these soldiers of yours." While Travis did suspect them to be spies, he could always send them away. "We have set up a few houses as accommodation, but I will need some information on these soldiers."

"But of course, I was getting to that. As you may already know, those in the main alliance have innate abilities or even gifts that bolster the strength of our contractors. With the Strong-armed magician giving the gift of mana to those that swear allegiance, it is undoubtedly the most potent. But my own abilities, the red eyed king and Tri-V are nothing to scoff at either!" She then gave a bit of explanation for each of them.

This story originates from Royal Road. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there.

"Tri-V, or as you may know him in chat as V for Victory with an... ehem... additional V in the middle has provided 10 soldiers in the Basic Silver-grade. They all have the benefit of having his blessing, the ability to turn their skin into steel. The only downside is that it replaces their innate ability."

'The ability itself would likely bring them up to Elite Bronze, but with the benefits of internal energy and martial arts they're almost guaranteed to reach silver.' Travis took note of this information.

"There are four spellcasters in the Basic Silver-grade from our leader, I have my soldiers who can manipulate water and are quite skilled with the sword. There are three of them from my side." She then motioned for the last three, a group of red-eyed soldiers. "Three soldiers from the red-eyed skeleton king. While I'm unsure of the boons he gives them, I am sure that all of those who sign his contract have an enhanced capacity for martial arts."

'So her innate ability is similar to the Pirate Captain, while the red eyed king has something more powerful based on his ranking in their alliance and the potency of his skill.' Travis looked around to see that Noah and his other recruits were taking note of the information. "I see, then would you like to spend some more time in my territory. We can discuss the matters that we couldn't attend to last time."

"I would have to decline Mister Montes, The Western Alliance is currently in talks with the European powers. My presence is being requested by the Leader. I merely came here to drop off the soldiers." She then walked up towards them. "I expect everyone to be in their best behaviors, You are representatives of our grand alliance. Anyone that's reported to be insubordinate will be punished greatly. Am I clear?"

"Yes, Ma'am!"

She left soon after, she was in a rush to meet with the other Alliance members.

In an open field next to the statues, the 20 Silver-grade soldiers were tasked to sit. Travis would have to give them a briefing on the situation in his base. Information that would likely leak to the main alliance. Travis sent out a chat to everyone of his recruits, to treat them as guests but never to divulge any information that wasn't necessary.

"I'm sure that you all come from all walks of life but I'm not here to ask for your life story. I have but a simple question, are all of you from the states?" Travis just wanted to know where they were all from, he already received a lot of information from Samantha this was just an icebreaker. "Please raise your hands if you're from the states."

With all of them raising their hands, Travis got his answer.

"I don't need to mention the specifics then, We are currently on the island near Lindburg City. I grew up in that city, but I was forced to flee due to a number of reasons. This island has been my home since then." Travis gave them information but he only gave out things that were hard to use against him. "As you can see, my units has retooled this island. It was already an island that could survive in the modern world. We just needed to improve upon what was already here, My territory is well-defended. I'm sure you've seen my defenders."

"Now how did I reach the top 500, that question is likely in your heads. Since I appear to be rather passive, to that the answer is simple. I send out troops to take on invaders, sometimes they take out locals as well. The city of Lindburg is currently a warzone. A permanent portal to the Abyss has been opened at the center of it while the southern edge has a permanent portal for a realm that is home to the Church of Light." Travis paced around as he continued his explanation. "My scouting troops have a few hidden bases in the city, they hunt down monsters and random invaders in the area. We serve as a third party that hasn't sided with either faction. The merit points I receive come from my hand in their little scuffle."

"This is all to say that your services are not needed in my territory. No, not at all. I will be utilizing you as soldiers in those grounds. Permanent Portal Scrolls are capable of sealing the permanent portals that these two factions opened in the city. The goal is to close both of them, the city of Lindburg was once my home. I wish to retake it from these invading forces."
