"The undead I summoned to protect your area have fallen, be weary of visitors Master Travis."
The chat message that Vantak sent him through the system was one that Travis quickly took note of, he sent Mira off to search for these "visitors" the moment he got the message.
"Bring them to the entrance of the warehouse, I'd like to see them for myself." This was the reply that Travis gave to Mira's chat message.
The knock that Mira gave from the entrance was the only signal that Travis needed. "Ara, you can hide here for now. I'll send you a message if I need you."
He waved goodbye to his newest recruit before heading out of the warehouse. "My name is Travis Montes, this junkyard is under my control. State your business!" Travis had the same tone he normally used when he was forced to lead, it was stern and cold like someone from the military.
"A-ah yes, Linda Bance from Potts University! We're here to collect metal to supplement my abilities, SIR!" The woman in a lab coat saluted her companions quickly followed the gesture.
"Can you give me a quick explanation on this ability?" Her ability intrigued him.
"I..I can manipulate metal constructs, like those drones sir." She then proceeded to go on a spiel about her ability, like a graduating student trying to push their thesis to an unfeeling college professor. She went on for about ten minutes before Travis finally told her to stop.
"I see, go on then. Mira keep an eye on them, if they do anything other than gather the resources that she mentioned you can do what you want with them." Travis closed the door of the warehouse.
Linda and her group quickly rushed for the piles of metal, the junkyard had mounds of the resource that she was searching for.
"Ara, you can eat most of the visitors but leave the one with a lab coat alive for me."
'They came to my home with a request, without even offering something in return. Whether they have good intentions or not is a nonfactor. What if they reveal my base to their friends from the outside? Do they think that I'm stupid or something? It's the new fucking era, I want to live and so to keep my location hidden THEY need to die!' Travis sat on the mattress once more as he began to heat up a pot of noodles.
His camp now had an assortment of home appliances that were powered by a diesel generator and the solar panels that he installed. The comfort levels of his base have grown drastically. The screams of the people outside resounded in his ears but most of his focus was currently on the meal that he was preparing.
This book's true home is on another platform. Check it out there for the real experience.
"I hope your meal is just as good as mine!"
Name: Ara, Experiment Number 32
Combat Rating: [Intermediate Silver-Grade]
Description: A two-hundred year old abomination, created by an alchemist as a prototype for his greatest creation. This specimen has the lower body of a giant snake, the upper body of a spider and the head of a dragon. Slain by a powerful "hero" of the past, this creature follows its master with no care for its own safety.
Contract Type: Permanent
Mira, in all her years in the battlefield has encountered a multitude of creatures but nothing could compare to the new "recruit" that her master was so proud of.
The mercy that Linda and her group thought they had was gone in the blink of an eye, she watched as the monster devoured her companions. Blood splattered all over her lab coat as the remains of her companions were toyed with by the abomination. She could only watch as all of her drones were swept from the air.
The creature, with the body of a spider near its head wrapped her in a web. This grotesque monstrosity then brought her back to the same man from earlier. "I think she's finally ready to talk, don't you think so Ara?"
Fear, this was something that she was already feeling just a few minutes ago but now faced with the master of the creature she quivered at a simple glance from him.
"Can you finally talk?"
She nodded.
"Good, now I want information on what's going on outside of the city. You still have those drones right?" Travis paced around the warehouse while Linda was prompted up by Ara.
Travis learned of the human settlements hidden in the north, from William's faction to the faction of athletes by the old recreational facility. He also learned of a few threats that lingered in the north, like the constant influx of portals from the Ahagin's home realm.
Though the greatest bit of information he got from her was the information that leaked from a monster that she interrogated. "One month after the start of the new era, more powerful creatures above the Silver-grade will finally make their way into the world."
This of course was something that he had to confirm with Vantak, Mira was but a foot soldier who only knew a bit of history while Ara was unable to talk or comprehend anything more than basic commands. After an hour of Linda spilling information, Travis finally grew tired of her.
"It seems that my orders for Vantak need to change, Ara you can have the rest of your snack outside." The monster quickly slithered out of the warehouse, content with the rest of its meal for the day.
Travis then walked over to Mira. "We're back to our usual business now, there's a few more locations for you to gather materials in this week." He handed her a map that he made. It was crude but it had all the necessary information that she would need.
The one month restriction, one that was placed by the system to prevent the larger threats of the multiverse. The strongest visitor of their reality were only at the Elite Silver-grade. "There's a little less than two weeks left before the one month grace period ends, I'll need to work that necromancer to the bone if I want more points."
