Hey, MGU fans! It’s finally time!
Today, Magical Girl Undergrad Book One: Heroics 101 goes live on both Kindle and Audible. It’s been a long time coming. The first iteration of the first chapter was written in mid-May of last year.
I’ll be honest. The story’s gone in a much different direction than I’d originally planned. I wanted to write a story that was as close to a Saturday Morning Cartoon as possible—a coming-of-age story for Anika as she learned how to be both herself and Magical Girl Understudy. It’s evolved into something way beyond the campy, goofy action and corny lines it started with, into a story that—I hope—explores show business, power, and identity in a more realistic way than I’d intended.
You might be reading a stolen copy. Visit Royal Road for the authentic version.
I’m really proud of the edited, tightened version of Heroics 101. I put countless hours (probably 20 to 30 over a month) into the revisions, tightened the pacing, filled plot holes, and polished it until it shone as brightly as I could get it. The folks at Podium did a great job with the editing from there, and Hollie Jackson (who’s also narrated Stray Cat Strut) nailed the audiobook version. Kindra Tia crushed the cover art as well—but you should wait until I can show the art for Book Two: Oaths and Outfits; it’s out of this world!
