Chapter 13

"Our medical equipments are not functioning up to par lately, so we would need to do the test multiple times to compare results." The doctor added and introduced herself, "I'm Anastasia. General practitioners, but I was hoping to get into Obstetrics, which pretty much means doctor for pregnancy and childbirth, so I know a few things."

Henry took the hand she offered for a handshake, while I opted to just wave at her, smile and say hi. "Is there nothing on her status that would help the checks?" Henry asks, then looks at me, "maybe a skill or spell?"

"It says how far along I am, but nothing about the health of the fetus inside." Jennifer answered for them. The discussion went on for a while, I got bored and my mind started to wander. The goblins come from further along the road, is this hospital being in the way the reason our territory didn't see any Goblins attack.

"I can see several things in the store that would help." I hear Henry say but promptly ignore it.

They have come everyday, three days in a row since the first Goblin group died to the evacuees in this hospital, each day coming in greater numbers. Safe to assume there's a lot more where they come from.

That there's more of them indicates a Nest? Dungeon? Maybe a Spawner? The knowledge pack confirms that all three do exist. Whatever it is would make a good leveling spot, assuming no impossible situation comes up. Like facing a whole army of, say, 10,000 Goblins alone.

"Zen…"

"ZEN!!"

"What!?" I answer spontaneously.

"We've come up with a plan." Jennifer explains. "The territory should be fine being empty as long as nobody attacks it, if anyone does, Henry says we should get a notice. So we'll stay here for now as we need their expertise and they need our help to defend the area, just in case the daily attacks keep doubling."

Henry added. "I found a few spells we're gonna get to help with the diagnosis, well, Dr. Ann will be getting them. We'll just provide the Creds. In exchange, Jen and the baby will be cared for and tended to as best as she can.

"We'll also be investing Creds to improve the hospital, Mr Herman has agreed to sell shares of this territory, kinda like how you did with ours. Though, as I expect, they need much more than we can provide right now." He concluded.

The gist of it is, Herman was totally enraptured by the idea of creating a safe haven in the middle of this dangerous world, all that changed is they plan to have top of the line healing services in addition to having impregnable defense. Which, I admit, is a great idea. If this works out, all I'd need is some kinda teleport or gate spell and travel would be way too easy. Even a one-time-use emergency recall scroll or stone would be amazing. So I too, invest.

Further discussion was unavoidable. I also tell them my thoughts about where the Goblins may be coming from, voicing my desire to check it out. I plan to depart alone, after taking care of some things. Will hopefully be on my way tomorrow. Herman inquired the three of us about our parents, apparently Jennifer had been texting hers all along, her mom moved to Australia when they got married. Jennifer came here to learn about her mother's home country then met Henry and decided to stay.

While Henry lost his parents before all this in an airplane accident, poor guy. They were flying home to japan for a family thing, he refused to go due to his education and ongoing business endeavors.

I, on the other hand, am currently feeling terrible. Usually busy with our own things. My parents and I rarely contact each other, not to mention that it's only been a few days since the world as we know it changed, so not enough time has passed for me to miss them. Not to mention getting distracted with, well, everything. It didn't help that my phone battery died and I had to wait while it charges.

As part of my investment. I'm giving free copies of my spell at its current rank to anyone in this building willing to help defend it. That amounts to Herman, all eleven security guards that are still alive, three of five doctors who didn't want to leave their patients, fifteen nurses and ten patients who slowly got better all on their own. Henry assumes it was a Constitution thing, to which I agree. All in all, 40 people got gifted Magico Disk.

The two other doctors prefer to focus on healing, Anastasia being one of them, while the rest of the patients are either children, elderly or, well, unhealed patients. I decided to still give the two doctors the spell, as I said, better have it and not need it. So, plus 2 people equals 42. There were some sales too, will check later.

As for how the territory will be managed, they currently plan to set up a council as opposed to having one person take the role of a leader; Henry, Jennifer and Herman will be the founding council members and would just add more people when necessary, or when talents are found. Therefore, Hen and I got lazy and just added to the previous contract, I’m getting another 10% ownership in exchange for the 9000 creds I currently have on me. All done with that, they currently plan to claim all the buildings along the road from here to the housing, at approximately four kilometers long.

As for me, I got plans involving some magic, a defensive spell. That is, after calling home!

The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

Any calls or texts fail to deliver. Their phone either ran out of battery like mine did or got broken. Damnit.

"Something bothering you?" Herman approached me. He looks wise and reliable to my eyes at that moment, so I describe my predicament to him.

He pats me on the back and said, "all right. Well, don't start overthinking now. Give me a few hours to check with my fellow exes. Not, the opposite gender kind of ex, he winked at me with a smirk. And I'm gonna need their names." It baffles me that a person at least in his 70s is hotter than me, I poke my thin arms a few times in lamentations, eventually I told him their names and replied, "yes, thank you Mr Herman." He grabs his phone and starts typing.

Alrighty, so I've been entertaining the idea of an armor summoning spell, something like Conjure Dagger. I absentmindedly spend my mana to conjure a dagger to observe and feel. It costs so little mana, but the conjured item feels so real, albeit being mildly transparent.

I went as far as to unsheathe the dagger I made, clashing them against each other. Besides muted clanks of metal on metal my wasted stamina does nothing else of note. "Did that dagger just appear out of the air?" A voice broke me out of my muse.

"Ah, yes. This is a spell called Conjure Dagger." I offer him the transparent weapon, noting the fact that he could take it without the weapon dissipating. He spent a few moments observing before offering his other hand to me, saying. "May I?"

I gave him the other, less transparent one. Unlike me, he started pounding and bashing them together, his muscles pulsating from exertion. Are we really both similarly human?

Conclusion. The conjured one dissipates after snapping in two, the materialized one has several nicks. And never, ever anger you-know-who. "Thank you sir!" I blurted out, when he returned what's left of mine. He laughed.

Alright, so the spell version cost me less than forty mp, but is weaker than the materialized one that costs me about three hundred something, if I remember correctly. I thought as the nicks on the dagger in my hand repaired itself using my infused mana.

"How are you doing that?" The muscled elder asked, and the next several minutes were spent telling him how I met my dagger. Hmm, this is one contra about having people around, distractions. Anyways~

First of all, I want the armor malleable without losing its protective property as an armor. Versatile and sturdy, something durable and moveable. Making use of my charged phone, the winner for the strongest geometric shape is… a triangle.

All out of ideas, I form one out of about ten mana, something approximately 5cm top to bottom down the middle. Then try to give it the properties of steel, by thinking it's mana-slash-steel rather than actually what steel is molecularly.

"What is that?" Herman looked up from his phone. So I once again got into explaining. My need for something strong enough to be armor and the search result, he suggested I make a triangular frame then have crisscrossing beams in the middle. That way, we cut on material yet maintain durability while lessening the weight a great deal. I made another one in the new design, Herman was all too eager to test them out.

It was no contest, the solid triangle wins by a big margin in durability. But looking at the crisscrossing beams gave me an idea. It's about something small joining together to form something bigger. Nanomachines! Triangular nanomachines. Though maybe not quite nano size wise.

I decided to make the best of both triangle designs by making the triangular frames very thick. Leaving a hollow middle, approximately twenty five percent of the whole thing. Which I then fill with crisscrossing triangular beams, making triangle shaped tiny holes. Triangleception! The triangle platings I also miniaturized, now being only about one centimeter long.

Next, several of these would join together, forming lattices. These lattices would then join together and form the armor. The triangular plates may slide along each other, detach or reattach at will. Creating what looks like flowing metal, freely shaped at my command. I test this by forming a simple armor covering my torso… works like magic! Though the transparent property of conjured items makes it look weak to use as armor.

Weak or not, I form an armor shape further away from my hand and invited Herman to join me for another test. Still very eager, he was! But the results were excellent!! The dagger once again needed repairs, but it's nothing mana can't solve. The armor would have tiny parts of its triangular platings broken, which can easily be filled in by the rest of the swarm. This thins the armor, but then again, it's nothing more mana can't solve. Herman was ecstatic. "Nanotech breakthrough!" he said, though this is gonna be a spell and, as mentioned above, nothing so small as to deserve the term nano.

Now to actually make it a spell.

I've been spending the standard amount of about ten mana to summon around a handful of these plates, which maybe fills a ten centimeters cubic space packed full of the triangular plates. This is quite complicated, the person sitting beside me is proof that everybody has their own measurements. So the spell needs to be size adaptable, that would also be useful to adjust the armor class for different situations.

So, some fiddling with the calculator app to get the most exact number possible and I'm now manipulating around 72 mana, which should be about 50 mana for anyone without anything to affect mana cost.

I maintain the concept of what I hope would be another original spell and kinda ping the system while shaping-manipulating them into the tiny triangular platings of the mixed design. 50 mana. Materializes around the back neck and flows outwards from there to form a simple armor, unless directed. How the frames can become rails to slide along each other and snap open or close into place. How they meld and part… more and more ideas sprung up in my head… Sense link. Strong and durable as steel, half as heavy. Stainless. Rubbery. User friendly and automated micro-adjustments. Selective magnetism. Adjustable tint. Assimilate ambient mana. Failsafe: "Zane says, Stop and drop!" Effect: dissipate, whitelist: Zane Fair Prayoga…..

"Looking badass! If I say so myself." An elderly voice brought me out of my trance where I feel myself encapsulated inside of a full plate lattice armor.

“Why, thank you,” I took a bow, it was effortless despite all the extra load. “Please excuse me.”

'Updates!'
