(Chapter 11) Start of the auction

While waiting for the auction to begin, Amon started to look around the auction hall.

On the first floor he could see a lot of people sitting in neatly avenged rows, some chatting with each other while some just sat there with a serious expression on their faces.

After sensing the Mana fluctuations their bodies emitted, Amon concluded that most of them were mortals, with a few apprentices added to the mix.

As for the VIP lounges, there were nine in total, arranged on the second floor with a clear view on the stage.

The one Amon was sitting in was located in the middle, with 4 similar ones next to him on both sides.

Directing his senses towards the bidders in the other VIP lounges, Amon found out that all VIPs besides him were rank 1 magi

After noticing that, a slight smile emerged on his face while he thought, 'With so many rank 1 magi attending, there should be at least something useful here for me to buy'

With nothing better to do for now, he started inspecting his own lounge until his gaze fell on a table in the corner of the room.

On top of the table were several neatly arranged bottles with liquids in many different colors inside.

Shifting his gaze toward Sophie, who loyally stood behind his chair, he said, "Bring me a glass of wine from that table over there."

"Yes your Highness" However, as she stood before the table she found out that there were multiple bottles of wine.

Unsure what to do, she asked Amon "Your Highness there is more than one bottle of wine, which one do you want ?"

"Just pick a random one, I don't know much about that stuff either" replied Amon.

Seeing that Amon didn't really care much about that matter, Sophie just picked the most expensive looking bottle, poured it into a glass and brought it to Amon.

Taking a sip of it, Amon was quite surprised how good it tasted, it was even better than the one he had in his chambers.

It had a strong taste of some unknown fruit and the alcoholic taste was stronger but somehow way smoother compared to his own wine.

Furthermore, it wasn't strong enough to have any influence on him, but he liked the taste quite a bit.

After taking another sip he looked at Sophie again and said" If you are thirsty you can pick something for yourself, but I wouldn't recommend you to choose the one you poured me because this one is quite strong."

After saying that a mischievous smile emerged on Amons face before he added "Although I find the thought about you walking around completely drunk quite funny you would probably throw up after one glass of that wine and I would have to carry you back to the castle"

Slightly embarrassed once again, Sophie silently walked toward the table again opening the bottles one by one and slightly smelling on it before she found something she liked and poured herself a glass of it before returning to Amons side.

Shortly after Sophie came back, a loud voice amplified by magic so that it could reach every corner of the auction hall could be heard.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, let me welcome you all, and thank you for your participation in this year's auction. My name is James Salinger and I will be hosting the auction today. For this auction, we only prepared the best of the best for you all, from precious resources and magical items to exotic slaves."

The voice came from a middle-aged man wearing a mask and dressed in a white suite who just entered the stage.

After this introduction, the room fell into silence and everyone eagerly awaited the first item to be auctioned off.

After he made sure he got everyone's attention, James said, "We will begin today's auction with something a lot of you will desire."

After this sentence, a young, glamorous dressed woman entered the stage carrying a big box which she after she placed at the table near James, before leaving again.

"The first item today is a very rare magical potion, which has the effect that it helps an apprentice to accumulated enough Mana for a breakthrough. With the help of that potions, even someone who is only about 70 percent done with the saturation will be able to achieve the rank up to become a rank 1 magus."

After James explained the properties of the potion, he opened the lit of the box to show it to everyone.

Inside the box was a tiny red bottle made out of crystal and as soon as it was shown grasping voices could be heard and a greedy expression formed itself on the faces of many participants.

Sophie didn't know much about magic but seeing the uproar that this little potion caused, she asked Amon in a low voice so nobody else could hear her, "Is this a precious potion?"

"No, not really" Amon replied in a bored tone.

"All it can do is to convert life force into Mana that the body doesn't reject, even though there are impurities left. So using this potion, one can become a magus without cleaning your impurities in your body.

"Slightly confused, Sophie replied, "But wouldn't that potion be extremely helpful to Anyone if you can ignore your impurities?"

Hearing that, Amon just shook his head and said "Well it depends, the most people are like you and only see the immediate benefits but ignore the rest. This potion uses life force, so it reduces your maximal life expectancy, besides that it has a reason that every apprentice need to get rid of the impurities. Having too many of them has an influence on the purity of your core. The people here most likely don't know that or don't care. The purity of your core isn't that important at rank 1, but it is extremely important if you want to get to a higher rank, but most of the people here most likely know that they won't achieve that level."

"So you won't bid on it?" Asked Sophie

With a mischievous smirk on his face, Amon replied, "No, but I am quite happy that they auction it off so early. A lot of magi will try to get this useless potion and whoever gets it will have to pay a high price for it that means the winner will have less money for the items afterward, which increases my chances of getting them."

While Amon and Sophie talked to each other, the other participants of the auction already started bidding on the potion.

The starting price was 100 gold, but after a few minutes it soon increased to 1000 gold and most participants in the rows at the floor had to give up.

About a minute later the price rose to 5000 gold and only two bidders remained, the one in VIP lounge two and seven.

However, Amon didn't care much and just enjoyed his wine, a few minutes later the potion was sold to the bidder in the second lounge for 7000 gold coins.

After the item was the young woman went to the stage again closed the box and carried it away, shortly after she left the stage a second woman went to the stage carrying another box and placing it besides James.

As soon as the box was placed down, James voice could be heard again as he said while opening the box showing a glowing ring inside, "The second item today is a defensive magical artifact, which has the effect of blocking a single attach from a rank 1 magus or about 10 from apprentices. When it has blocked an attack it has to recharge itself for about a day before it can be used again, the starting bid is 3000 gold coins."

Soon after he was finished with his explanation, the participants of the auction started bidding again. "4000 coins" could be heard from lounge three

"5000" shouted the man in lounge five

"6000" replied a woman in lounge four

"10 000 coins" echoed from lounge two.

After that increase no one else bid anymore, so soon James said "Sold to the gentleman in lounge two for 10 000 gold coins".

And like it happened before, one young woman picked the old item up before a second one appeared bringing a new one in the stage.

The next item was a magic staff which decreased Mana consumption by about 5 percent, after that followed a dagger which cursed anyone cut by it.

However, Amon wasn't that interested in these items, in his perspective they were nothing more than toys.

They would be useful if he really was an apprentice, but with his control over the void, why use a dagger who curses his enemies when he can erase them from existence with nothing but a thought.

So he didn't bid on them, letting the other participants buy them.

About an hour passed without any items that caught his interest, and the whole time he was sitting in his lounge talking with Sophie from time to time and explained the properties of some items to her while drinking his wine.

Currently, there was a box with rare herbs to be auctioned off but like always nothing really caught Amons attention, so soon the box was sold to someone else for 500 gold.

However after a woman entered the stage to carry the box away to its buyer instead of another woman with a new box entering the stage this time two guards entered while dragging three women in chains behind them.
