Episode 65: It Was All For Nothing/Part 2

"Hmph!", Dante ran forward, delivering a piercing strike with the small sword, sheathing it, and following with a roundabout slash with his claymore, finishing with an upward slash that took the ground with it and lifted enemies into the air.

"Hya!", Isabella followed after him, tossing her lance and crushing more enemies right in front of Dante, the force of the throw dragging the enemies he had lifted along with it.

"Here.", Dante grabbed her lance and gave it back.

"Thanks. There's no end to these things. Seriously, what are we supposed to do?"

Dante pointed his blade forward, "Attack the front, and those of you behind move up, cover fire!", he commanded.

Right away, the Obsulyte users in the front lines moved along and beyond Dante's line, slashing and mowing down monsters before heavy artillery and ion guns provided a large area of cover fire, precisely in front of the troops.

"We need to keep moving up on that thing, there's literally no other choice.", Dante told Isabella.

"I know, but what are we to do to it after?", she dusted herself off.

"Hell if I know. Trying to beat the crap out of it with our bare hands is always and option."

On their right side, the war machines blasted forward and mowed down a very significant amount of enemies before planting heavy ion cannons on the area they cleared, blasting massive beams up front that destroyed even more of their rapidly growing numbers. Following right after the machines, Tiki jumped to the ground and slammed her axe, shaking the earth and forcing the monsters to momentarily lose their balance, opening a window for Terna to step in and swiftly slice them into pieces, before returning to Tiki's position.

"Dante, watch it!", Yuno echoed.

As Dante tried to keep the monsters back, a few Corrupted that were directly enhanced by a Watcher jumped him, making it difficult for him to keep his footing.

"Providing assistance."

Luna appeared out of nowhere through her matrix, cleaving forward with her scythe and allowing Dante to finish off the Corrupted on him, regaining his position. She then swiftly attacked forward, appearing above the head of one of the Watchers enhancing the troop that attacked Dante, materializing two blades in her hands and swiftly weakening it with multiple slashes, before slashing its head clean off and disappearing. The war machines pressed even further, and like the iron-clad giants they were, physically assaulted and decimated even more enemy numbers up in the front, creating a massive clear zone. Seizing the opportunity, the backlines fired heavy artillery to the front, landing right on the enemies that the machines blocked from further advancing and exploding them into bits. Following up on the few that slipped through after, they finished them off with a combination of ion and normal bullets, as well as heavy lancers from the infantry Obsulyte users.

"We're doing it!", Terna got excited.

Luna reappeared with her matrix affecting everything around her, "Statistically, our odds of victory have increased dramatically if the same pace of the battle is followed."

"Guys, come on, let's go!", one of the soldiers charged forward.

Dante got mildly annoyed, "Pushing it."

"Relax, we're on top of things. Let's keep it that way!", Isabella followed the soldier.

"We should help her.", Yuno echoed in Dante.

Dante dusted himself off, "Wasn't intending on doing something else.", he rushed forward.

Tiki briefly looked at the front before heading after more of her enemies, taking a very slight amount of time to take things in, before turning to her troops and her two friends as she devised a plan.

"Luna, how far does your matrix expand?", she asked.

"Anywhere my eyes lock on, with a considerable amount of energy used the further the distance from my original location. That said, the energy needed to reposition is not substantial enough to render me incapable of combat for a long time."

"Alright then, hear me out. Use your matrix, penetrate the frontlines and try to cause havoc in the back. Don't focus hard to kill targets, or kills necessarily, just cause as much distraction as you can.", she turned to her troops, "Pair up among yourselves now! One Obsulyte user with melee weapons, one normal with ranged weapons. You have been given to me at equal sums, so you should find a partner. Massive artillery machine holders stay put!"

With a swift snap, two long lines were formed and the troops quickly looked up to Tiki as they waited for their next orders while looking at the front where Isabella and Dante kept fighting.

"Alexandra, how many war machines along with their mechanics can you assign me?", Tiki used her coms.

"Around 4, all positioned and fighting right in front of you, with one word.", she answered.

"Do it."

"Order was passed now, you have BRAWLS 5 through 8. I trust you'll do great, General.", Alexandra got off coms.

"Just trusted enough.", she exhaled after the stress of her request being accepted, before she entered coms again, "The mechanics of BRAWLS 5 to 8 hear me out. We will penetrate the frontlines and go deep, disrupting enemy support. Along the tunnel that we will make, hold it, so that it remains open. Artillery will be provided to hold more at bay from my battalion.", she looked at her troops, "Everyone got that?!"

"Yes!", every single one of them firmly answered, with all their faith put into her.

"Good!", she turned to Terna, "Terna, come with me. From the deep end, we will fight along with the troops, alright?"

"Got it!", Terna quickly nodded.

And as the assault raged on in the fields, so it did before the city, all three of the other assigned leading figures trying very hard to pull through what seemed like an impossibility.

"Man.", Magi cleaved once forward and slammed her blade into the ground, exploding the Obsulyte in it and decimating them, "All these little shits are not giving up."

"Attention! Lances down!", Reina commanded, "Forward thrust, 15 meters! Fire!"

She, along with a group of 20 soldiers, evenly split on the left and right of her, charged the distance commanded and impaling all enemies in their path, the sound of their heavy, Obsulyte strengthened footing shaking the ground. Carefully dashing back afterwards as they never once exposed their backs at their enemies, they caught their breath after creating space between them.

"Forward march!", Wallace stepped in the space created with his troops and held his position, "Dammit, we're not getting anywhere with all of these twats constantly surging in!"

Reina caught her breath and fought with him, "Magi! Need help over there?"

"Nope. Anyone got beer though?", she effortlessly took a bunch of enemies down.

"Here you go ma'am!", a soldier gave her a beer.

"What in the bloody hell?", Wallace was almost offended.

"Alexandra did allow us to 'Use our skills and our commands as we deem best fit to win the battle.'. Don't worry, I have a coffee to sobber me up on the way here too.", she quickly judged the front the moment her peripheral vision felt iffy, jugging down her beer at once, "Halt! Back!", she commanded her troops, jumping back herself and tossing the can with such force that it split the head of a single Corrupted open.

"Back!", Reina commanded too.

Before they knew it, all their progress made was completely erased after a massive flow of enemies forced them to back off the area they had just cleared, once again finding themselves in the same position as before.

"This is getting rather annoying actually. Where's their boss for a change?", Magi got tired of the same, "This back and forth has been going for a god damn hour!"

"Maybe if you focused on your fighting, that'd do us better service!", Wallace scolded her.

"Pipe down, silver colored tin-can. Even if I were to go 100% and screw them all up, my progress would be quickly halted. Add to the fact that my guys would be able to follow, there's no point."

"Haah!", Reina slammed her lance down, shattering the ground and sending enemies flying, "We need a way to create enough space for the heavy devices to be placed into a new position, their range was deemed ineffective by our engineers from where they are! These bloody monsters...they're taking so much to be dealt with."

"Mind you, they're not exactly the correct type of monsters. Compared to what the kids told me from Sandaco and these Victory Plains, they should be way stronger.", Mag thought, "They're putting their energy into something. That big lizard probably."

"That thing looks like it's very much stuck. It's like it's trying to get itself off the ground.", Wallace took a moment to think.

"It's trying to detach itself from the massive ore.", Magi realized, "Just how Kikaro used to utilize Makaro?"

"So that means that if this thing gets out of there, their energy being diverted is...we're racing against the clock. I'm forwarding this to the others right now.", Reina quickly started sending the information gathered.

"Bloody hell! This can't be where London falls!", Wallace kept angrily fighting.

"For a Silverlance, I did expect more. But I guess that's touche on your part too. Now, I dunno who London is, but I know this. It's way too early for you to be so grimy. Play it out."

"The pride of the Silverlances, if just carried by me, shall be shown in full glory!"

Wallace unleashed the full might of his Obsulyte's, his armor tightening up as his lance expanded, putting on his helmet and fearlessly charging at the front with wide attacks that rapidly created space with every swipe. Jumping back, he slammed his lance into the ground and held it tightly, before it unleashed a massive ion ray that split into multiple smaller ones as it arced down from the sky, raining hell on their enemies.

"Huh, that works.", Magi was impressed, "Maybe we should fear the Silverlances. Show me what more you got."

"Ma'am! Your coffee!", the soldier interrupted her train of thought.

"Ah, nice. Thanks, kid.", she hugged the coffee in one go, "Holy shit, this thing had no sugar or anything in it. My god, the bitterness.", she coughed it off, "But I guess that with this and the clock I'm on, it's about time I shove all of you little bastards back in the same hole you came from."

Magi gathered all her strength and with her now immense Obsulyte surge, cleaved right through her enemies. With a series of heavy slams and slashes, all very conveniently opening a path for the troops to get through, she made her way to Wallace's side, joining forces with him to directly push the monsters even further away.

Wallace realized, "You were stalling them back."

"Their Obsulyte is weak. But there's value in quantity over quality sometimes.", she smirked, "Now let's get these 'twats' off this place."

Wallace chuckled, "Right you are mate.", he pointed his lance forward, "Charge!"

Back at the wide Victoria plains, the massive beast roared once more. It furthered its force on its hands and shook the ground once more, causing more earthquakes. However, this time, the earthquake was so extreme that every single thing existing within the Plains, even up until the stronghold outside the city, dropped right on the ground. Massive cracks ensued, before the earth itself literally gave in and collapsed beneath their feet. A good thirty to forty degree steep angle was formed around the hole as it pushed itself further out, funneling in the monsters themselves and casting them into the abyss. As soon as they recovered to see that the earth funneled everything to the monster, their spirits stuttered at the constant but horrifying realization of how powerful this beast had actually been.

"Holy...shit.", Tiki paused.

"The new terrain is steep at precisely 37 degrees. The force used to create it indicates that multiple Obsulyte ores around the area have been completely absorbed, allowing the ground to give in.", Drima informed them through comms, "This thing...its crazy strong."

"W-Wait, guys! This can be good!", Terna happily said, "Nevermind its strength, we already kinda knew that, but the terrain is advantageous! We want to get to it and the ground literally makes it easier to do so!"

"She's right.", Dante nodded, "Regroup and reposition before the enemy recovers!", he commanded.

"Alright, Terna! The plan doesn't change one bit! Everyone, get up and we move along with the war machines, even better now, the terrain is to our advantage!", Tiki got up.

Everyone swiftly recovered with almost flawless coordination and got to their positions back much faster than the monsters. That only bettered the situation as it allowed them to start taking out more and more before the monsters could even recover, finding themselves with new momentum to tilt the tides of battle in their favor.

"Dante, I need to tell you something before you move further. Luna's matrix.", Yuno echoed.

"Hmph!", Dante swiftly slashed back and forth, taking down several monsters, "Yeah, what of it?"

"I felt Mellistar inside you when she appeared to cleave them down."

"What? Wait-heah!", he got directly hit on his body, this time allowing him to launch an instinctive counterattack that mowed down multiple monsters in a straight line, "I still have my innate abilities. Good.", he got the chance to confirm it, "Now about that...sounds interesting, but I'll hold. No dallying on the battlefield until I can get a chance with Luna. Let her do the thing Tiki assigned her to first."

"Step aside!", Isabella dashed right at Dante with her lance forward.

Barely missing her, Isabella plucked her lance right into a Corrupted. She followed up by also taking out her blade, piercing right through the monster's chest, and turning around. With her back against it as it stuttered, she violently pulled both the sword and the lance out at opposite sides, causing the monster to explode into bits from the sheer speed the force was applied both on its upper and lower body.

Dante got briefly stunned at Isabella when she had picked up her tempo, "I...thanks."

She recovered as she looked at the shattered monster, "Try that again, asshole, and I'll put all of them into an early grave!", she looked at the giant monster, "Makaro...I'll beat the shit out of you.", she dashed forward without an inch of fear.

"Yeah...something tells me that both she and Hikari are kind of amazing and frightening when they actually get in the swing of things.", Yuno got awed by Isabella.

"That they are, which makes things way easier. Hmm?", Dante looked at the shattered monster's head that rolled on his foot, "What is-"

Kicking it lightly with his foot, the head got turned around for Dante to see something that most definitely caught his interest. On the back of its head, spanning lightly forward, the Corrupted had a very distinct, pure black mark that seemed to cover even more of its body going downward, before it was shattered to bits.

"Whatever the hell this means, I don't like it.", he got a very bad, eerie feeling, "Can't dwell on it, Isabella needs me.", he ignored it and ran back to the front lines.
