Episode 56: Counselor Of Zero, Queen Of Victoria

Episode 56: Counselor Of Zero, Queen Of Victoria

At the blink of an eye, as if she had randomly just appeared within the very next frame of vision that Luna's eyes would process, Terna appeared right before her as she was quick to halt her swipe of her scythe, allowing Terna to take the charge and make a wide slash and take down enemy monsters with her. The slash that would normally be powerful enough on it's own was much more flashy and strong as she phased out of The Void, almost as if she was taking raw power seeping through that realm with her as she exited, creating much more space for them to breath as a considerable amount of lowly monsters, as well as Corrupted faced their end, including the one previously entrapped alongside Terna.

"HMM.", Luna paused.

Terna panted as she faced the heat of battle once again, "Whew, Luna! Are you alright?!"

Luna then paused before she had a forced step back, somewhat mimicking the same sort of pain and movement she had back at the café with Tiki, kneeling as she froze in her stance, arm resting on one knee as the other held onto her weapon. Despite that, however, no pain was felt this time, her simply being able to take the hit back from the power surge and simply stand down as she seemed to just cool herself off from the massive hit emitting from her body. Still, she was more than capable of both talking, and to a normal extend at that, catching Terna's worries on her lips before they had any chance to inflate as she witnessed her friend entering a weakened state.

"Don't be alarmed. If anything, your presence only made me feel better, good enough to the point where I can actually relax and let my body cool off while trusting you with the front. Nothing big to worry about, but I overused a protocol that overheated the mechanical parts of my body."

"Got it! I'll do my best! But...where the super monster? The thing Yuno said made things extremely dangerous?"

"Annihilated it. Still, with the protocol I needed to use in order to actually kill it, it wouldn't be long before I had to stand down and get minced or face frying myself alive from the inside out as I kept holding on with the enhanced state."

"You're also talking...like a normal person?", Terna tried her best to take everything in.

"Connection with H.I.V.E. had to be terminated for this-ah, whatever! It'll take way too long to explain right now, brace yourself! You safe area is shortening!", Luna looked forward.

"OK! No need to worry, I got this!"

As more monsters hurried their way, Terna held her position at the front of Luna, bracing for impact as she somewhat wavered at the menacing sight. Still, like a loyal knight with her rapier, she held her flute close to her neck as she pointed it forward, getting ready to defend as best as she could. And once again, this time with grace, she allowed her attackers to freely move and strike her, only in anticipation of their hit as she calculated her own counterattack.

"Vocis sonum praebe mihi!, she cried out loud with her mouth aimed at the flute.

And so, as one of the many monsters jumped at her, trying to land a hit, her voice froze before it expanded outwards to be heard by many others, collapsing back at it's point of origin, as the attacker itself only looked to slow down before making contact with Terna, growing ever so slower as it appeared to reach her at excruciatingly low speeds from outside. With ease and poise, Terna was quick too act and release it from it's slowed prison at once, cutting through it as she first took a kneeling stance before accenting up and through it. Landing down with the tip of her toes as if she merely levitated inches above the ground to not make a noise, she began dashing around the field and breaking down all sorts of schemes and tactics involving her enemies forming an advantageous positioning. It was as if no friction existed, her making no sound as she slid around in a graceful dance like the flow of water on a river, unbreakable and near completely fluent with every single one of her moves. That same dance that one would think it's flow would belong in a very harshly practiced number of an opera was seemingly effortlessly used to make quick work of all her foes, pushing them back further and further as their commanding figures struggled to craft a plan around their ever decreasing numbers.

"Good work! Keep it up!", Luna cheered her on.

Terna reset her position, "Yeah! Thanks! I say, Dante was right, it does feel satisfactory taking down all the monsters with a sword better than with a gun!", she got giggly over her newfound power.

"Stay headstrong, more are coming!"

"I'll do my best! Always!"

Luna tried to get up, "Alright...I can somewhat help!"

"Make it double for a duet then!", Terna helped her up, "I'll show Tiki that there's way more than just wearing an armor and going to town!"

"She was definitely right when telling you to cover up when she had no prior knowledge of your counter tactics. Even Dante has some extremely powerful counters, but he too shows less skin.", Luna scolded her.

"Oh, come on Luna! No need to ruin the moment now that I'm looking to be as strong as everyone! This is my shinning moment!"

"I suppose I can let you go off then...wait. What's that?", Luna looked in the distance.

Several flashes and explosions were heard coming from the other side of the battlefield, monsters running to and back from the origin of the sound as they seemed to be in a primal, panic state. Upon getting somewhat closer, the mass revealed itself to be a line full of human looking soldiers, wearing a bright, shiny silver armor as they wielded a bunch of different weapons that completely crushed the opposition they were facing. Luna and Terna wasted no time into preparing to face the monsters now rushing en masse towards them, opting to escape their many numbered enemies instead of the few powerful ones.

"Here we-!", Terna stopped before risked something more on her overexcited state.

A bright red flash belonging to none other than Dante rushed forth, taking along with it the lesser monsters as he struggled to stop himself towards the end of his massive forward movement, tumbling and crushing down before recovering at a kneeling state before them both.

"Agh! Dammit Tiki, how much power did you put behind this accelerating system?!", he jumped back from his kneeling pose.

"A-", Tiki jumped above him as she also dashed to the front, right back on the hoard of monsters, "Lot!"

With her axe above her head, she activated her own accelerator once more, by force alone, the system completely cracking and falling off her weapon as it let out it's last use. Centimeters before connecting with the ground, sending a shockwave behind her, as well as another one way stronger to the front, shattering the ground in an earthquake like movement with one fell swoop, landing shortly after, only to witness more destruction bursting forth from her momentum and taking monsters along with it. A surprised face befell Terna specifically, who thought that this front was hers and only hers to take, somewhat happy for her friends' arrival and disappointed she didn't get to shine. When the dust cleaned and their vision was no longer obscured, it was clear that the monsters, few in remaining numbers, were shaken enough to mindlessly rush back to the oncoming battalions as they were systematically and expertly taken care of by the Victorian military.

"Everyone ok?!", Dante worryingly said.

"Yeah...thanks. Could've at least made it a little earlier to witness my true shine.", Terna whispered.

"God damn, right at the peak of it all.", Tiki looked at them, "But hey, I see you two had it under control. Thought it was either bad or constantly getting worse."

Luna got back up and concealed her weapon, "It was. The situation was rapidly deteriorating before Terna's arrival, seemingly out of nowhere, where I could shut down my force activation of an assault protocol and resume connection with the H.I.V.E. My suspicion is that without her effort, my life would have been surely terminated, under inconsistencies or mechanical failures leading to my enemy's default victory."

"Wha-where did the cool sounding, normal Luna go?", Terna wondered.

"My emotional status is once again controlled by my connection with several assistance modules from the H.I.V.E. I am sorry if my previous state cause you distress under facing unfamiliarity."

"If anything, she was kind of...better? It's weird having a preference over someone, when they're the same person.", Terna pondered, "But oh, yeah, how did you guys get here?! Me, Enemy and Yuno already had issues trying to merely go a meter forward with the monsters we had to face...Enemy! Oh no!", she remembered.

Quickly silencing her worries, Enemy approached them, "Relax. One more shot to the face. Hurt like absolute hell, and I have a really bad migraine right now, but I'll live. But it's still messing with my eyes.", she rubbed her eyes.

"What in the world is going on, what happened?!", Terna got confused even more.

"Drones happened. Apparently, when we entered the fields here, there was a major disturbance of sorts. Basically, Drima couldn't and still can't communicate with us from coms, which explains his utter silence throughout the entire thing. But, because the military caught on, release surveillance drones and Drima saw us, he kind of begged on his knees that the Grand Counselor approved for the military to attack.", Yuno explained.

"My butt was saved from Yuno covering me up momentarily, before the real reinforcements came and wiped all incoming monsters. The guys you see repelling the monsters down there, with the Silverlance looking armor? All Obsulyte users...strong Obsulyte users. Enough to pile on and kill Corrupted generals.", Enemy added on.

"Yeah...Silverlance looking armor. In any case, a part of them is lead by Reina, Drima's buddy from the yard fiasco, same one who flew us in here and who lead the fleet above Gardard. Apparently the disruption of communication stops when you're thousands of meters up in the sky...we underestimated the technologies that the monsters would use. They're smarter than expected. But thankfully, everything rolled our smoothly after.", Dante somewhat angrily rubbed his forehead, "However..."

"Our asses were saved at a price. Steep one. We messed shit up before flexing on the Victorian military and caught wind...nah, more like a caught a tornado of that Grand Counselors attention. Rejoice. We're all invited to answer for our crimes of being reckless vigilantes right up in the Counseling Court. Better put, where the throne room of a monarch would be. If it does double up as an execution room, you know I'm crushing skulls and slitting throats to get us out of there anyway, so no worries.", Tiki gave her unofficial seal of approval in a hastily made plan.

The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement.

"Yes, dig our grave deeper, until we reach the very bottom of hell. Please. We are already in deep shit.", Enemy angrily said.

"But we have an advantage.", Luna suggested, "The numbers I have looked up to be officially announced within the public as far as stationed military here is actually completely wrong. That is, completely faked. While we were masked as recruits during the ride of the military vehicle from Reina, before our flight, the several other vehicles contained registered Victorian males, young of 18 or more in age, drafted by force, while additionally containing females of 18 or more under their choice, in favor of portraying availability of options while containing gender based discrimination and false public accusations. Meaning, if possible, leverage of such information could aid us in lowering a sentence."

Before another hastily made, absurd plan with multiple flaws and holes could be crafter under their young mind's ever growing imagination, Reina approached them quickly as she signaled the to come with her, apparently being able to hear the last but very important part of their conversation.

"Yes, let your imagination run wild. For starters, your plan's first hole is that *if* you were to use that as leverage against Alexandra, then you'd fail because the public has, a, gotten hold of what's going on since, I dunno, we had a massive draft that took a ton of 18 year olds off their ass and into a truck heading off to the front lines. And b, it's already announced. And no one is happy, but Alexandra had no choice but to force it, without giving anyone much of a chance to object, aside from females choosing yes or no on the draft. The men down there are those new recruits, with the careers leading the front.", Reina shut them down.

"Isn't that...too much? For a few monsters, I mean.", Terna asked.

"It is.", Reina answered, "Look, most likely, the reason is only known between Alexandra and that simpleton retainer of hers that constantly follows her around. I calmed Drima down already, and just trust me once again like you did with me getting you here, I talked with Alexandra already. It's no death sentence like you idiots think. If anything, she favors you, after hearing about you. She unceremoniously ended your efforts here because she wished to finish your mission early in order to talk with you. Just got back from talking with some other leaders from the Victorian Alliance too."

"Guess that's that then. We'd get into too much unneeded trouble in order to escape the summoning of a country's leader anyway.", Tiki shrugged as she went along with Reina, the others following as their choices narrowed down.

Finally relaxing and relieving themselves from their heavy equipment, it wasn't long before they found themselves up into the skies again, this time from a massive helicopter with two compartments. Not piloted by Reina, it looked as the pilot himself was also not a part of a normal body of authority, his uniform being completely different than the rest, wearing a royal purple as a few white garments of similar clothing to the other personnel remained, signaling his role as appointed by a higher figure. Getting up into the sky and looking down on the field, the scope of the operation started to really show, as multiple mass bodies of military completely finished off any remaining monsters that were left behind, on multiple different points, both ones they were deployed into, as well as many other building filled areas. Their ride short, it wasn't long before they were at the top of the same helipad that took Anya away. Yet despite how uneventful the ride was as everyone finally relaxed right after, they were given no chance to go down to their living quarters, having Reina control their march as they exited in the lobby of the Grand Hall, and moved along with her through it. Many personnel, important or otherwise, gave them the looks through their long walk, despite being busy as they always were, signaling that their identities might be more than revealed within the enclosed area where information first came by. Not even bothering to talk with the reception, Reina walked right by and followed down a very empty and decently sized hallway that contradicted the other, people filled hallways in the building, before leaving them midway to walk into a room via an open door in the end. However, that room was but a simple kitchen area filled with all sorts of treats, goods and food capable of feeding a few, but with no much else, and another set of doors waiting for them right at them. Not wanting to keep up the suspense, Dante opened both doors and cut to the chase, walking inside while the others stood besides him.

A massive rectangular table filled with hologram info sheets and documents was laid before them, right next to a brightly lit balcony where the natural light came through, along with the fragrant smell of flowers from the gardens bellow, right between a set of 5 marble white pillars. The area around the table was paved with a pristine, clean and soft royal purple carpet that expanded in the entire room, in every area no furniture was on, and felt as if one step on it had anyone bouncing back from the softness, as if taking a step on the moon. On the other side of the hallway, waiting for them like a true figure of authority would, laid a woman most eagerly waiting to see them. She wore a suit with a skirt identical in color scheme to what the pilot bringing them back from the battlefield wore, with her dark brown hair only better bringing out the true magnificence of the royal purple. Next to her, a knight wearing an armor with a one to one matching aspect of Dante's memories of the Silverlances stood strong, owning nothing more on him than his decorated sword, matche3d and fixed with the same insignias of the bygone kingdom of Dirunon and the King's Insignia, also with one's of the Victorian Alliance. When she got up to speak, however, a most anticlimactic event followed that erased most of the build up aura and sense of authority exerted right before them.

"Greetings, young vigilantes. It is a shame I wasn't able to get a hold of your acquaintance in favor of official business before. And to have you rushing to my summoning after your exhaustion on the battlefield must have also been a burden. I'm terribly sorry, but I do at least hope that your refreshed yourselves in the break room before the Council Court. Situation also made it so that there was a leak recently, so you are only able to use the facilities to acquire bottles o' water.", Alexandra spoke in an upmost English accent.

Enemy got weirded out, but couldn't help to silently chuckle, "Did she snap her vocal cords or something? Wait a minute...oh. Hikari, is that what you were saying about alternative speech patterns?", she whispered.

"What?", Dante tried to understand her, "I mean, I get it. But..."

Alexandra very quickly caught on to what as going on, "I understand that compared to the rest of my subordinates, my presence, and...speech pattern not commonly held up in the world anymore might appear quirky. But I sure do hope it will not hinder our conversation."

"It will not. Despite it's noticeable difference, we are more than capable of answering your summoning at a leveled playing field.", Luna reassured her.

"Pride was put aside long ago to make room for the bastardization of a once elevated form of speech anyways.", she spoke through her fist, elegantly passing it as if she was cleaning her throat, "I must go over the formalities first. I am Alexandrina Victoria. Grand Counselor of Victoria, Lead of the Victorian Alliance...and titles yet to come. Besides me stands Wallace Jackson. He is my noble retainer and renowned swordsman. A rebel at heart, if you may believe."

"I suppose there are a lot of questions in order. The Counselor has taken a hold of what your questions may be, after grasping your identities before being up for falsification from our underground mastermind, Drima. Particularly from the son of Cecilia Elysia, who has been eyeing me and my armor since the moment of your entry in the Council Court. Rest assured, that we will answer your questions as best we can.", Wallace spoke in a similar manner to Alexandra

"We wish to establish a clear communication line out of common interest towards our goals. Seeing as your forfeited Thaddeus' mission without his knowing, there might be yet more hope left for our entrusting of critical information to you. However you may deem it, propaganda spout out to entice you, or truthful words, is up to you. But to cast aside wonders, no, we will be, and would still refuse cooperation with 'Insinia', even if you were still under his command. Now, as we may, there's questions you may want or not want others to hear the answer to. If secrets are of bother then separating audiences is a viable alternative."

"We got through that recently. I suppose many of us would like to keep things hidden but...if they agree, I'd like that you answer all we have for you right here.", Dante looked at the others.

"Partially, yes. Because I remember your face. You might want to tone it down with the real sensitive stuff, less you want me to tone up the violence.", Tiki aggressively said.

Enemy waved her hand in front of Tiki's face, interrupting further aggressions from both sides, "Ignore her. She's always getting pissed off at something anyways, moreso when she's annoyed for her unreasonable reasons."

"I'm not pissed off because of her, this is my normal every day rage.", Tiki pointed out.

"In any case. I have hold of Hikari's memories, so while she recovers after taking the hits for me, I'll hear to her audience. Additionally, I have long seen her world through my eyes. So are you to talk by your familiar terms, I'll mediate."

Alexandra nodded, "Although...there is also the presence of Serena. Who also knows of our world, correct?", she looked at Terna.

"You mean Terna?", Yuno awkwardly asked.

"Uh, about that. Only very, very recently did I find out about that person as well. And I'm sort of not and also am that person at the same time? Hard to explain, ehehe...", Terna got nervous.

"Please, don't tell me you will also pull a name change as well. We had 3 so far, and I sure as hell know there's a 4th coming for her, when she stops being edgy for no reason.", Dante mocked enemy.

"It would not be surprising if more came along your way. Most folk from the Great War and after changed many things, names foremost, to avoid connections and regrets of that era. As dark as it was...I know it too well."

"You sure dug deep. Way more than I thought you ever would for a bunch like us.", Yuno was surprised.

"Your identities are significant to me. At least, when you met with Terna. Saddens me deeply to hear, however, that an old friend who once helped me is almost to the point of being no more. Yet, to accommodate for all lost time-", Alexandra took a gentle bow at Terna, "I still will acknowledge you, remnants of Serena, Overseer Of The Void, Terna Matune."

"Unsurprising, considering the fact she went from zero to hero when grabbing the funny sword-flute.", Enemy commented, "Then I suppose you know where we will be heading next too?"

"Where Serena's memories resonated along with Terna. Mesonisi, in Greece, wasn't it?"

"Yeah, that's it. But...where?", Terna confirmed.

"Ah, yes, different geographies and history. Apologies, but my knowledge guides me elsewhere, from memory."

Wallace chuckled, "Your Majesty-oh, there it is. Even I get confused. Primarily, when I got ready to ferry across this world's non-existent English Channel. Shocking as it may have been, we still traded the greatest navy for the greatest infantry. Shame it was to never sail on one of her majesty's ship after that point, I suppose England had to adapt accordingly."

"So just to be clear, because I'm losing you, you got robbed off your world? Because you're speaking a lot of fantasy lands as far as I'm aware.", Tiki started to get annoyed again.

"Funny how you get pissed off so easily, when my origin lies in your 'Disilia'", Enemy said.

"Oh, really? I suppose that statistically, there would be a higher chance that the person Serena chose to pursue in this new world before I chased after would be from the United States. Caught me late on that train to teach this world this form of our language."

"Relax, I'm not. However, even then, Hikari who is the main reason for me to exist wasn't even from there. Look up north, at Canada. That's where she was at from fragments of where I can remember from her memory."

"I'm agreeing with Tiki here, you're pissing me off too. You, Terna, Alexandra and Wallace know what the hell you're talking about, the rest of us are just here scratching our heads. Seriously.", Dante angrily said at Enemy.

"For the love of-", Enemy was cut of from a conversation of her interest, "Victoria, England, Galatea, Greece, Disilia, America. Happy?", she angrily replied.

"What a kick-ass mediator.", Dante angrily answered back.

"The gentle and proper standing before your Majesty quickly faded among the young's bickering.", Wallace silently commented.

Alexandra giggled, "We both knew before we engaged in this conversation.", she whispered at him.

"What is an America?", Yuno jumped in to ask as he got weirded out.

"I'm starting to lose it as well, I don't quite know everything that's going on.", Terna tried to wrap her head around it.

Alexandra calmed everyone down, "This, as expected, will be a long conversation to be held. Wallace, if you please, bring forth some tea and offer everyone a seat. Oh, and don't forget the treats."

"Of course, your Majesty."

"So she is a queen and monarch or no?", Tiki was still confused.

"All will be explained by her Majesty. Now, if you may.", Wallace offered Tiki and everyone a seat, for what was expected of Alexandra to come.
