CHAPTER 136

Heralds, emissaries, harbingers, these positions of power those in the archailect aspire to attain was one filled with prestige and power unopposed. Those who reach there however, were considered the best of the best, monsters of power who will with time be the living personification of the wrath of whosoever they represented.

The position of ‘representing’ a being in the archailect went as far back as towards the early days of the archailect, when the supreme beings who in their power; decided never to come to blows with each other over issues and appointed certain lesser beings who were powerful in their own rights to do this for them.

The roles of representatives however extended past the budding clashing battles for power and began to bleed into the area of veneration, for the supreme beings with their pure aspects were not able to use such raw power to make their wills manifest in the archailect lest they break it, their aspects washing everything away in a deluge of power.

Therefore these representatives who would later be known as harbingers were to draw other beings even lesser than them into worship of the respective supreme being they worshiped in order to gain the venerations of untold billions of beings, thereby empowering both the supreme beings and their worshippers to perform ‘miracles’

Miracles were acts of power that could range from healing a broken world, to as far as bringing people back from the dead, although those were rare and far in between. Soon enough those who were chosen to become harbingers had peers among them who had grown as strong as they did, however these quickly realized the servitude and supposed shackles the position of a harbinger would place on a being, a restriction of sorts and decided to pave their own way forward.

These beings who soon enough reached the pinnacle of power in the archailect became known as primordials, choosing to walk their own paths as well as gathering venerations for themselves. The supreme beings were less than pleased at the situation, and although their harbingers wielded a portion of their power equal to the rank of a primordial, the difference in power soon began to show. Primordials were those who resonated with the archailect itself, their aspects a part of a greater whole that the supreme beings represented as they themselves embodied the six prime aspects of the archailect.

Therefore primordials were beings who fell under one or more of these prime aspects, but even with the purview and power the supreme beings should had been able to wield seeing as these aspects were branches of theirs, the fundamental power of the archailect itself prevented them from ever harming or tinkling with the aspects themselves. As such, once a being attained the realm of primordial, the supreme beings were literally powerless to touch them, for this was the rule of the archailect,

The rule of protection,

Lotes in her infinite wisdom, corralled her siblings with an idea she created while drawing Alastor the supreme of intent into it as her main instigator. They would create something so powerful, even the primordials would be hard pressed to allying with them, as such, Divinum was created, a metal of such unparalleled strength and power, nothing save the direct attack of the supreme beings themselves could shatter the metal. The primordials who after centuries and millenniums of becoming jaded, saw a new power to be attained and strived to acquire it.

Soon enough they realized the clause and terms of the deal, some of them such as the cosmic dragon led the mandate to ally with the supreme beings. While not being servants like the harbingers, they would however share the venerations they got with the supreme beings and in exchange be given pieces of Divinum and greater leeway with their activities in the archailect. Some primordials however viewed this as a ruse and decided to stick to themselves, Divinum or not as they would not be swayed. Led by the great maw and king of monsters himself, lord Kairos, they split off from the original assembly of primordials, going into the far distance of the archailect itself to set up their galaxy spanning empires.

The supreme beings satisfied with such an outcome, settled into the arrangements comfortably, however their harbingers were not. Feeling slighted and used, these harbingers waged a universe spanning war on the primordials, but seeing as they couldn’t touch the primordials now allied with the supreme beings that were now called celestials, they turned their gaze on the other faction, the terrestrials. The supreme beings while turning their gaze away, knew the outcome of such a battle would tear the archailect apart, declared that these beings themselves were not to fight in the archailect itself, and created a space in between the archailect and the abyss, where their almost god-like abilities could rampage all it liked without adverse effect for the archailect.

The nethervoid,

This place became the sight for most galaxy destroying battles as the harbingers clashed with the primordials, tearing away at each other in a war of attrition. Soon enough it became clear to the harbingers that while they wielded the aspects and aspect-tinged authorities of the supreme beings, they were no match for the primordials who had attained their own aspects, not unless they were willing to sacrifice more to gain an even greater portion of aspect from their respective supreme beings.

With deaths on both sides that would soon enough revive back to life as long as their thrones were intact, they decided to take their battles back to the archailect through proxy war. Again, repeating the cycle of using those beneath them to wage their wars, these primordials and harbingers soon picked masters, seeing as they couldn’t pick rulers since the majority of the archailect thought the rank of ruler to be the pinnacle of power in the archailect and they chose to leave it as such. These masters who gained a portion of the aspects of their respective harbingers or primordials would be known as emissaries and could wage war in the archailect itself.

Empires crumbled, countless lives were lost and galaxies were on fire from the rampage of these masters. The supreme beings had gotten enough of the squabbles of their harbingers and primordials as those beneath them, mortals with such short lives that were cut down even shorter died due to the battles waged between beings of almost impossible power. Lotes decided the create the brigade, a military force of kind that stepped into the thick of things and crushed any battles from affecting those beneath the ranks of the truly powerful, safeguarding those whose venerations the supreme beings needed.

Led by a celestial known as the cosmic dragon, soon enough both warring sides called off their centuries long battle with terse agreements. The brigade with a primordial rumoured to be the strongest of them all brought peace however temporary to the archailect, the rulers of the archailect however took up the mantle of emissary, employing them on those lesser than them in order to wage their inter-planetary wars, diamonds who had no hope being masters were subtly given the power to break the barrier by rulers who had access to their aspects.

Thus, the exalted positions of harbingers and emissaries became a permanent part of the archailect, those however, who wanted to be emissaries to a ruler but were not privileged to were known as heralds, given weapons or relics with the aspect of the ruler or primordial within it, albeit a lesser and more diluted version. Depending on their performances, they could be elevated to emissaries at the whims of the ruler they followed, most times having to turn their entire system or planet to venerating the ruler who had ascended to ancient or primordial realm of existence.

The position of champion however, was a delicate and secretive one, for where harbingers were tied with rules and clauses, a champion was one truly devoted to whatever being they followed. Embodying the true nature of the being, they strove to be the embodiment of the principles of whatever being they represented. In the history of the archailect, only one person had attained the rank of champion,

Gaius golden champion,

An ascender who led his people to centuries of prosperity, his attitude, manner and dedication towards protecting those weaker than him had caused the aspect of the titan floating around the archailect to resonate with his existence. Lotes had seen the tremors, she had felt the shockwave of power and had known it was too early for the aspect of the titan to return, she had tired diverting his fate, but the will of the titan was not to be denied.

Seeing as he already had a path, the aspect latched unto his existence, bestowing upon him the title of the titan’s champion. Tapping into the aspect of the titan, he protected his galaxy spanning empire from threats within and outside the archailect. The fears of the supreme being of aether however came to actualization when the abyss felt the growing resonation of the now master ranked golden champion with the titan aspect and attacked.

Perhaps due to not wanting to draw the attention of her siblings, Lotes held back the brigade from entering the battle, leaving Gaius to his fate as he fought to the death to protect his empire from the ravaging powers. The champion fought his hardest, but he was no actual titan, merely an echo of the power resided in him and he fell to future lord destroyer of the abyss, Araman. The cosmic dragon had sat idly by, unable to act not because she was an harbinger, but because the brigade had been hold back in its entirety, the sun burning aspect of Lotes withdrawn from them in a desperate bid to ensure the compliance of the cosmic dragon.

Unwilling to take her people themselves to war in protection of the empire of Gaius, the dragon in anger abdicated the position as the leader of the brigade, retreating deep into the archailect, away from the active gaze of the supreme beings and her galaxy spanning empire. With a dedicated few followers she cherished, she left the running of the archailect, swearing to return once again should the aspect of the titan rear its head to battle the abyss.

Countless millenniums had passed, the archailect all but forgotten the names of the true powers that ran rampant those days, save a few primordials who hadn’t gone to sleep and still maintained vigilance over the archailect. The aspect of the titan and the position of champion had however faded past even the lore and stories of the archailect, going into oblivion itself,

Until now,

Even as Idris Geb hand woke from the coma he had gone under the moment he touched the crystalized aspect of the titan, he knew in his heart what his choice would be. Eyes alight, he thought of his wife aminat, the quiet gentle soul who always drove him to be the best he could be, his unborn daughter coming into a world protected by the titan blade and stood up.

With determination he picked the book of the titan, feeling the authority of the titan course through him as he was seized with a vision, a bald muscular man with golden eyes and a large staff at his side stood in a pure white room, on his body was an armor of burnished gold.

Idris instinctively knew who he was,

“Gaius golden champion” he said,

“Idris Geb hand” Gaius replied,

“I am to be your successor” Idris said,

“Indeed, and while I wished to had seen the reincarnation of the titan, it gladdens my heart that someone else will carry on the mantle of champion” Gaius replied,

“I’m not sure I totally fit the role” Idris said,

“Is your dedication and zeal to the titan absolute?” Gaius asked,

The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.

“My dedication is to the patriarch of my clan, my zeal is to the people under my purview” Idris countered,

“Then you fit the role brother, for only a fool would have complete trust in another being” Gaius said with a smile,

“The book chose you Idris, the aspect of the titan resonated with your deeds, there is no need to doubt, to fret” Gaius said,

“I’m not” Idris said firmly,

“Then let us get this done with Idris Geb hand” Gaius replied,

Gaius stretched one finger to Idris as the book of the titan appeared above the sect leader of the sentinels, opening to the second page as the name “Idris Geb hand” was inscribed onto it. He felt the power of the titan course through his body as his eyes blazed,

“Protection, defence, perseverance, endurance, these are our creeds” Gaius intoned as the reply came to Idris’s head,

“His will, our strength” he said,

Arching his back as he felt the titan aspect click within him, his core evolving from rare to legendary also. The power released Idris as he landed steadily on his feet, eyes glowing gold,

“The titan protects” Gaius said with a smile,

“His will, my strength” Idris replied as the vision seized and he returned to the temple,

Idris felt…amazing, pure power ran through his form and he had a feeling he could hit really high above his rank. His HUD blinked as he brought it up,

Idris stared wide eyed at his stat in shock, a large staff appearing next to him, the weapon of the titan. He gripped it and felt the pure power of the titan coursing within it. Nodding approvingly, he watched it become a large sword before shrinking down to baton size. Glancing up at the statue whose hands were now empty, he felt the titan aspect within him, empowering him to bring down the enemies of the titan.

Stepping out of the temple, he felt the aspect of the titan resonate with his surroundings, his HUD blinking again as he opened it,

Notice: aspect is stronger in the domain of the titan, entering into the domain of another champion, emissary or harbinger will reduce the strength of the aspect till you can consecrate an area in the name of the titan.

Idris cracked his neck with a smile, he was fine with that, sending a message to the titan, he watched a pathway open up in front of him to where the titan stood, arms crossed with a smile on his face and the titan’s champion stepped through.

**************************

The moment Moyo opened a pathway to the continent of Lumia, he felt a force opposing him, another aspect, bright and ravenous attempting to crush his pathway. With a snarl he shrugged off the power, feeling the air sizzle as two aspects began to eat away at the very fabric of reality. A loud gong echoed around,

Notice: barrier placed by the overseer Atreus over the continent of Lumia, a contest of domain has begun!.

- Lumia is now barred from entrance or exist for the duration of the contest

- All allied with Lumia will see a 10% boost in potency of abilities

- All allied with the titan will see a 10% reduction in potency of abilities

Moyo nodded grimly, he had been expecting it, he glanced at Ashira who nodded and whipped out her bow, drawing its string as a green arrow filled with toxin and the aspect of Kairos darkened the air around them before releasing it in the direction of the citadel of light. It crashed on a barrier of light that shone brightly, deflecting the attack that filled the air with poison before evaporating at the command of Ashira who frowned,

“that’s a master ranked protective barrier, aspect infused at that, Akriel is indeed around” she said,

Moyo nodded again,

“You know the plan” he said as he saw hundreds of glowing lights filling the air, Luminian priests under the thrall of Akriel and his master. Ashira nodded and vanished, Moyo folding his hands as he stared at the iron and bronze rankers that filled the air with the runic scripts, blasting lances of light at Moyo.

The titan snapped his fingers and ascenders poured out of the pathway behind him, blitzing forwards to deflect the attacks with a myriad of attacks. He smiled, the unnumbered ascenders who formerly venerated the titan, coming to battle with the rage of a hundred fully trained ascenders. Moyo felt something shift within him as he smiled, checking his HUD,

Notice: Idris Geb hand has accepted the position of the titan’s champion!.

A message popped up in his HUD, Idris asking for a lift and with a thought he opened a pathway straight to his temple, the champion of the titan stepping through. It felt eerie staring into purple eyes like his, but he smiled and hugged Idris,

“In all honesty, I was hoping you wouldn’t take it” Moyo confessed,

“I would carry the mantle of champion with honor my primordial” Idris replied,

Moyo shook his head,

“Please, not you too” he groaned as Idris laughed,

A projectile whizzed towards their direction as Idris reacted, catching the lance in his hand and snuffing out the silver ranked attack, eyes blazing,

“My lord?” Idris asked,

Moyo nodded,

“Have at them, head straight for the temple of Lumia, but before that” Moyo said as he snapped his fingers,

The aspect of the titan rushed out of him, bathing the area in purple arcs of power and darkening the clouds above as the realm of the titan was summoned, imposing itself on the domain of Lumia as it tore through the aspect-tinged aura and authority Akriel must had employed. A loud gong echoed again,

Notice: the titan blade has summoned his realm, creating a zone of power, all allied with the titan can withdraw to this zone as long as it exists to throw off the penalties of invading another zone.

Idris smiled, unclipped the baton from his waist as it grew into a broad sword,

“Time to test this baby” he said,

“Be careful, Akriel could have his own champion or the equivalent protecting the temple, my money’s on cardinal Elita” he warned,

Idris nodded and with a burst of speed slammed into a bronze ranker, the priest crumpling like a can as Moyo winced. Moyo floated into the air, using his aura to amplify his voice,

“Citizens of Lumia, I come with a warning and a boon, you have been deceived, pontiff Matthew no longer leads the theocracy, you are at the mercy of an otherworldly being who absorbed your veneration in cahoots with your leaders” he proclaimed,

“I am here to rid you of the parasite, those who are true to the pontiff, stay indoors, hide, you will not be touched, this I swear on my name. However, for those of you who willingly support Akriel and his master, I have come with vengeance and I will not be denied” he finished, retreating back to his mountain and sitting on his throne atop the mountain,

“Your move Akriel” he whispered.

*************************8

Akriel, herald of Rieus sat on a golden throne in the citadel of light, his body literally glowing with the absorbed aspect of Rieus, below him and bowing were his cardinal and three archbishops,

“He has come” Akriel said, his voice resonating around the room, the entire structure glowing,

“Great one” Elita groaned,

Akriel turned his gaze to her,

“We are ready, the plan is set, however we are receiving news of one who wields the power of the titan but is not the titan, we made no plans for that” she whispered, shaking on her knees,

Akriel gripped the golden arm rest of the throne as it shattered,

“even more hubris, he shares his paltry aspect with an underling, at least he follows the rules of higher battle” Akriel snarled,

He pointed to Elita,

“Come my favored one, you will be my blade against this false emissary of a master, come into the embrace of lord Rieus” Akriel crooned,

Elita hurriedly crawled to the feet of Akriel, she kissed the outstretched hand of the master and felt a spark of the aspect of the bright scourge penetrate her body as she arced her back out, screaming as the power burned through her body, peeling away her mortal flesh and leaving behind a glowing energy form of Elita, one with wings. Gaze cold and burning with the wrath of Rieus, Akriel smiled as Elita stretched out her hand and a golden blade made of light took shape,

“Go my emissary” Akriel giggled,

“Protect the temple of Rieus, protect the veneration of my lord and slay this emissary of the titan” he ordered,

In a flash of light, the pseudo emissary of Akriel disappeared, the golden glowing master turned to the remaining bowing archbishops, all silver rank, ascending with speed and countless souls lost to the cause in dungeons,

“Go, protect Beacon, the titan and his army must not reach the citadel of light” Akriel ordered,

The archbishops bowed deeper and left the citadel with speed, marshalling their armies to the battle the titan, along with the thralls they had made, enslaved civilians under the ravenous scourge of Rieus, willing to devour power wherever they felt it. Akriel could care less for those living on the continent, soon enough the entire world would be his.

He felt reality freeze as a golden pathway opened and a being much like him stepped through, golden wings and a cold look on his face. Akriel bit back a snarl as the warrior being with the look of an archangel crossed his arms in front of him,

Habriel, emissary of Rieus

“Explain yourself Akriel” Habriel said,

“I believe I sent a message to lord Rieus; I owe you no explanation” Akriel snarled, the aspect of the bright scourge running through his body, goading him to lash out at Habriel,

A most futile endeavor,

The accumulation of all the aspects Akriel had absorbed didn’t make up half of what Habriel could wield, the being in his front, conqueror of worlds enumerable was a force in the ranks of Rieus. Habriel scrunched his face,

“Our master received no message and your sudden absorbing of the aspect has drawn the gaze of terrestrial primordials to the move of our master, you, my foolish kin, have begun to unravel a work that has been on for decades uncountable” Habriel snarled,

Akriel looked confused,

“Impossible, I sent the message, I informed him of a being known as the titan blade, a master with access to his own aspect” he shouted, standing from the golden throne that crumpled to dust,

“what manner of lunacy has besieged you Akriel?, what master has direct access to their aspect?, such is blasphemous, I should have you killed” Habriel said, his voice going deadly cold,

Akriel stumbled back from the bloodlust before composing himself, snarling and opening a communication construct to show the titan blade atop his mountain, on a throne of aspect, eyes closed. The eyes of the titan snapped open and Akriel stumbled back, eyes wide as his communication construct exploded,

The titan had gotten stronger, how he had done it Akriel had no idea, but the titan had indeed gotten stronger.

What drew his attention however, was the way Habriel had flinched, it was but for a fraction of a second, but Akriel had seen it. Habriel turned to him, tearing open a pathway,

“Do not engage him, wait for word from lord Rieus, I go to inform him” Habriel warned and stepped through the pathway, the runic door closing up behind him.

Akriel grinned, laying runic circles to prevent the return of Habriel. He refused to believe he, a being centuries old couldn’t take out one lucky ascender. He would present the head of the titan blade to Rieus, he would bathe in the exultation of Rieus and be raised to the position of emissary. Snapping his fingers as the golden throne reformed and he sat on it, he only had to wait till Elita who was unknowingly burning away her life force at the moment end the life of the pseudo emissary of the titan, then he can finally move.
