Chapter 6, Hot Energy.
----------------------------------------
"So where did all the little creatures go? Were they Rule Weavers too?" Everett whispered, Faceless floating next to him.
"Well... In a way! Everything you saw before had in someway been caught abusing the rules... Be it a little gecko that was able to melt stone with a touch, or a lion that could summon wings with its kreus..." Faceless responded, Everett nodding as he opened the door to his apartment, Reese following behind.
"We just told them to stop making themselves visible to you, after all, they all have high kreus so they're not stupid." It continued, Everett not paying much attention anymore.
"So this is your place!" Reese said, jubilantly stepping through the front door.
"Yeah, my humble little abode..." Everett shut the door behind her.
He walked into his kitchen, grabbing two glasses.
"I have orange juice, is that good for you?" He asked, reaching for his fridge.
"Is my favorite juice good? Obviously." She retorted, leaning over his counter, watching as he grabbed the jug and poured it for them.
"So... Is all your stuff gone? Besides for what's in that backpack I guess..." Everett asking, eyeing Faceless as he circled around Reese's back.
"I figured out the mystery behind her..." He randomly said, making Everett accidentally overpour his own drink.
"Everett!" Reese yelped, grabbing his hand and stopping him from spilling any more.
Everett's gaze turned a little more stern, easily portraying the fact he wanted to ask Faceless what he meant.
"Ah, sorry... I zoned out." He said towards Reese, closing the orange juice but still maintaining eye contact with Faceless' face.
"Keke, I wont tell! You will find out for yourself soon!" Faceless disappeared, reappearing over near the couch.
"Notify me when you're done talking to your little girlfriend! I have to teach you more about kreus before you explode and die!..." Hearing those words, Everett's eyes threatened to fall out of his head.
"Do you wanna sleep?" Everett abruptly asked, handing the glass to Reese as he finished cleaning up his small mess.
"Oh? So you want to get in bed with me before the night even falls?" She teased, Everett's face going blank.
"No no, I just think you've had a long day! You really need some rest, and plus, I don't want you to think too hard so soon... I just hope I can help you, you know?" He thoroughly explained, gulping down his orange juice to cleanse his palate.
He couldn't help but remember how he had been forced face first into a pool of monster blood.
"Hm... I am tired, so I might accept your offer..." She smiled, Everett truly taking a good look at her face.
Now that he took the time to really look at her, it was obvious she was exhausted.
Despite trying to act energetic and alive, it was easy to tell she was on the verge of collapsing, be it out of pure exhaustion or even just mental pain.
"You know I really can tell you haven't had much experience with people... You get flustered really easily, or nervous, whatever you wanna call it." She smiled, sipping her drink.
"So, before I sleep! Let me ask you some things..." Her drink was placed down, her arms crossing themselves on the marble counter top.
"Are you willing to tell me why you were unconscious in a destroyed car nearly 5 minutes away from your house?" She chuckled, Everett nervously scratching his arm.
"Uhm... I really don't know what to tell you..." He started, noticing Faceless standing up from his seat on the couch.
"Just tell her I led you there, you don't have to lie Mister E..." He said, approaching the two.
Everett mentally agreed, his mouth opening to respond-
"Oh but please make it quick, you have approximately 4 minutes before you blow up!" Faceless finished, leaning against the counter just as Reese did.
Disgustingly, his eerie mouth appeared on his otherwise empty face, a long pink tongue hanging down from it.
Stolen from its original source, this story is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.
"Tick! Tock~... Tick, tock!"
Everett couldn't help but gulp, glancing at the clock on his stove.
5:28 p.m.
He thought to himself, focusing back on Reese.
It'd be ideal if Reese didn't find out my delusions were really reality breaking super demons that want me to rule the world, would it...
He questioned himself within his mind, taking another sip of orange juice before he actually spoke.
"He led me there, Faceless."
Reese's eyebrow raised.
"And you listened?"
"Well... It's best to listen to them I guess..."
"Why? Well, is it like... A, uhm... I don't know what the word I'm looking for is..." Reese chuckled, shaking her head embarrassingly.
"Is it like, they're perceivable gut feelings? I mean, they have to be your inner thoughts, what's deep inside of you right?" She said. "So maybe listening to them is good... Maybe it's your body, or your inner subconscious trying to tell you something!" She exclaimed, throwing her hands in the air.
"Wouldn't that be cool?" She smiled, lighting up Everett's face in the process.
"I like her... She's an entertaining one! Smart too..." Faceless said, his sharp and jagged teeth showing.
"Yeah... I guess it's like my superpower, but it has its downsides... They can be really annoying sometimes, that's for sure..." Everett mumbled, glancing at Faceless as Reese giggled.
"Well, that's really all I wanted to know but, can I ask one more thing?" She questioned, raising a finger.
"Go for it." Everett responded, having downed his glass, putting it in the sink.
Reese in turn finished her glass, handing it to Everett who reached for it, putting it in the sink beside his.
"Are any of them, here now?" She leant into a whisper.
"Well... I don't think there was much of a need to whisper... Faceless is standing right next to you." He responded, pointing towards where Faceless resided, leant on the counter directly next to her.
"Really?!" She jumped back, looking where Everett did.
"Soo... He's right here!" She said, sticking her finger out in the air directly where Everett said Faceless was.
It took a few seconds for him to respond, as his response wasn't really in words and more in facial expressions.
"Your finger is in his mouth." He said, Reese's face sinking.
Everett couldn't help but gag, but laugh at the same time.
Watching Faceless swirl his tongue around Reese's hand was one of the strangest sights he had seen yet.
"Are you serious?..." She reeled her hand back, looking at it with a look of disgust.
Everett couldn't help but wonder what exactly she imagined Faceless to be, but it was entertaining seeing her reaction.
"Maybe it is time to sleep, because that was unsettling..." She whispered, holding the hand that was supposedly assaulted by an imaginary monster.
"You can take the bed, I'll just sleep on the couch later... Probably soon actually it'll start getting dark at any moment." He muttered the last part, checking the time.
5:31 p.m.
"Little tiime!~" He heard Faceless whisper.
"Actually yeah, go take the bed, I'll be out here if you need me!" Everett said, swiftly showing Reese towards his room.
"T-Thanks for all the hospitality." She said confusedly.
"No problem! Sleep well." He closed the door, sprinting over to the couch.
"What do I need to do?!" He nervously asked, sweat building up on his face.
"Use your soul intuition, sense the energy within you, the kreus, and cycle it throughout your body. Remember, kreus is the energy that gives you the ability to live, breathe, and think!" Faceless swiftly spoke.
Everett crossed his legs, placing his palms on his knees faced down.
Meditating is the easiest way to do this, right? Sensing my inner energy...
He thought, taking a deep breath and taking in a good amount of oxygen. He recalled the feeling he had engrained into his mind before, using his intuition to search himself, aiming to find the kreus Faceless spoke of.
He focused on himself, imagining himself digging deep into his soul, searching and scouring around.
He imagined finding an energy, brilliant with light.
Before he knew it, he could feel it. He could feel a bright burning feeling in his stomach.
He felt as if he was going to throw up fire.
Cycle it?...
He focused, aiming to move the energy throughout his body, trying to turn it into a stream that ran stably through himself.
Surprisingly, it easily followed his will.
"Kreus is easy to control once you have perceived it... But it gets harder the more kreus you have, so you always have to temper your control!" Faceless spoke, Everett agreeing that it was easy to control.
"Keep going! It's easy now, but surely it wont be, you do have quite a bit for a newly awakened!" Everett raised an eyebrow, his eyes closed as he continued to move the energy within himself.
It was a process that was taxing on his mind, but after 10 minutes, he could feel that he had successfully circulated nearly 15 percent of the mass, but now, it was reluctant to move.
"What happened to all that progress?" Faceless questioned, watching as heat started to emanate off of Everett's body.
"Is it getting hot in here, or is it just me?" He asked nervously, his brow twitching.
"It's quite literally just you!" Faceless enthusiastically responded, "Though I'd recommend working harder... if you circulate it quicker you can circumvent your implosion!" Hearing that, Everett couldn't help but worry.
"I'll really explode?" He asked, focusing on moving the energy even more.
"Did you think you could safely absorb a potent energy like that and just live perfectly? Do you think you'd be fine if you stood at the center of an exploding nuclear bomb? They're pretty equivalent..." Faceless chuckled, sweat forming on Everett's face as he could truly feel the urgency.
Arcs of electricity sparked from his body, scorching the couch.
"The amount of kreus you absorbed is equivalent to the reserves of the worlds 3 strongest men combined, alongside Albert Einstein's! Theoretically, if all of it went to reinforce your mind, you'd surely receive the ability to see the future!" Faceless exclaimed.
"But that's highly unlikely, your mind is the least likely to be upgraded..."
Everett mostly ignored Faceless, focusing solely on cycling the hot energy through his body.
He was slowly succeeding at his goal, as he seemed to be able to move more as time went on, though it made sense. His will grew stronger over time as the urgency increased.
But, it wasn't even a total of 30 minutes, with 50% circulated when he was rudely interrupted.
"Everett? What's going on? A-Are you okay?!" He heard Reese's voice, his eyes snapping open.
"Shit."
"Oh look! It's our favorite person! Maybe she can help you?"
