Chapter 10, Demons Arrival.
----------------------------------------
"How do you like it?" Everett asked, placing his fork on the empty plate before him.
"Well... I've barely started? But from what I can judge, it's actually... One of the best things I've eaten to be honest!" Reese smiled, taking a bite of the omelet that looked as if a 5 star chef had made it.
It was incredibly well presented, enough to make one hungry at a glance.
"Yeah, it was pretty good but, I don't know, it wasn't truly satisfying... You know?" Everett mumbled towards the end, "I'm not very full either to top it off. So I'd say I was right about the appetite thing..." He laughed, standing up and putting his plate in the sink.
"That's a bad thing for you buddy, now you have to eat more than before just to get full? Sounds like you're gonna be forever hungry unless you eat some real meals..." Reese groaned, being annoyed just at the thought of having to eat so much.
"Who wouldn't want to eat some extra food?" Everett chuckled, moving towards the ground, placing his palms on the floor.
"I wonder how many push-ups I can do... Wanna count for me? Last time I checked, I could do a good 23. With nearly perfect form of course, full range of motion and everything." Everett said, flattening his back out as he looked up at Reese who sat at the table.
"Why not! I think you can pop out a hundred... but, I don't really know how much kreus you have so." She replied, leaning over and watching him.
"Oop, 1, 2, 3, 4..." Reese counted, watching as Everett moved nonstop.
Reese counted for 5 minutes before succumbing to the boredom.
"Three hundred push-ups in 300 seconds is insane... And you show no sign of stopping, are you even fatigued at all?" Reese asked, getting off her seat and grabbing Everett's shoulders.
She lifted him up to his feet, squeezing his shoulders in the process.
"Oh wow, I'm not sure if your muscles were this hard before, but they feel pretty full." She said, patting his shoulder while he wiped the sweat off his forehead.
"Thanks? But no, I really don't feel much, just a little tense I guess..." Everett said, grabbing her plate and moving it to the sink alongside his.
"I'm sure you'll be the same soon, so should we try and figure out how your Kreus Reactor works?" He asked, looking towards Reese as he turned the faucet on.
"What, you can't just predict how it works and tell me smart guy?" She laughed charmingly, Everett squinting at her.
"Well, if I had to guess... Considering I could circulate my kreus through will, I'd assume you'd have to look deep into yourself to find the reactor, then activate it with your mind. It really shouldn't be too difficult, it is your talent in the end, it'd be strange if you couldn't use it with ease." He said, washing the dishes, getting out any smidges at record pace.
"So you're saying I should just... meditate? Right? I've read a few novels myself... So I should just cultivate and find my soul and stuff then look into it and activate my Kreus Reactor?" Reese asked thoughtfully.
A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.
"That sounds right I'd say..." Everett responded, racking up the two plates and one cup, moving on to the final dish. "Try it! I have a faceless ancient monster to converse with..." The final cup was finished, Everett drying his hands as he watched Reese moving to the couch.
"Will do!" She said ecstatically, sitting in the lotus pose, closing her eyes.
"Faceless." Everett said, sitting down at his dinner table, a bottle of water in hand.
"Greetings Mister E!" Faceless responded nearly instantly, appearing directly in front of Everett, making him recoil in shock.
"God... You didn't have to just... do that." Everett mumbled in annoyance.
"Anyways, what did you mean by I wouldn't survive tonight? And, what are the benefits of continuously circulating my kreus? There surely should be some, aren't there?" Everett asked, the pale man backing away slightly.
"Hmm, good questions! Well, the benefit of circulating your kreus would be the fact that it keeps you in top condition. It can be used to supplement food and sleep, but doing it that way will burn it out... The only way to regain kreus is through just living life and eating, aka absorbing it from the world around you. Be it by breathing in the kreus in the air, or eating the kreus of another animal." Faceless answered.
"So, I should make sure to eat a lot of food then?" Everett questioned.
"Sure! But if you absorb too much kreus at once, you'll need to circulate it throughout your body to acclimate it to you, as too much foreign kreus will lead to implosion! It's like when you and Reese first awakened to kreus! You almost imploded because of Praegressus' kreus, and she almost imploded because of your kreus on top of that! Interesting isn't it..." Faceless said, standing up straight and massaging his chin.
"Shouldn't that have been mentioned in your little lesson?..." Everett asked.
"Maybe I should have... but oh well! You may tell Reese when she's done awakening her Reactor!" Faceless exclaimed.
"So my method was right? It was as simple as finding the reactor within herself and turning it on with her will?" Everett questioned with a smile, proud of himself.
"Well... I've never encountered a Kreus Reactor Core, so I can only assume! It's a safe guess, most likely to be true at that. It is indeed her talent, within her existence, so I don't think she'll struggle to use it!" Faceless said, looking towards the meditating woman on the couch.
"I wonder... If you two had a child, would they inherit her Kreus Core, and your many talents?" Faceless said, his mouth forming as he grinned eerily at Everett.
"No. We're not having a kid." Everett said, Faceless frowning.
"Well, if she wants one then... Well, no I don't know her! But... she really isn't ugly, quite the opposite actually... But she doesn't want me! Why would we have kids..." Everett trailed, running off on a tangent as Faceless only stood there watching him ramble to himself.
"See... talking a lot is a sign of intelligence!" Faceless happily worded, turning towards the front door abruptly.
"Yippee! They're here..."
"Who's here?" Everett asked, Faceless turning back towards him.
"The demons of course! The low ranked level zero creatures! They're here to pave the way for all other foreigners to break into this desolate universe!"
"So, am I gonna have to fight some monsters or something?" Everett asked, a nervous smile on his face.
"No! They'll just break in and eat you of course!" Faceless backed away, Everett turning to look towards the door he was looking at.
"Did you need to be sarcastic?" He asked, getting up from his seat and moving towards the kitchen.
"Grabbing a knife are you? I wouldn't recommend it! You're physically strong enough to handle them for now, and using a sharp weapon like that will only dirty your apartment..." Faceless said, stopping Everett in his tracks.
"I guess I'm still not smarter than you, am I..." Everett mumbled, turning back towards his door.
"So, when are they coming?" He asked.
"Right now!"
Scratch. Scratch.
BOOM!
The door blasted open, a creature the size of a large dog crawling through.
"Oh wow... What the hell are you..." Everett whispered with an astonished gaze.
Standing before him was a creature with grey hide, porcupine like spikes on its back. It's face was ugly and, stubby to say the least. It's eyes displayed not a single thought was in it's head, and it perched up onto it's two back feet as it sniffed the air.
It's lengthy, yet slim tail waggled behind it, it's jaw opening as it staring directly at Everett.
SCREECH!~
It yelled, dashing straight towards Everett, not giving him much time to respond.
"Shit!"
