Chapter 12, Should it be That Easy?
----------------------------------------
“You’re doing good Everett. I’m really proud of you! You even managed to find yourself a little girlfriend, didn’t cha’?”
He sat in a field, the grass swaying beneath him. The sky was a mixture of purple and orange, the sun having started to set.
The wind pushed lightly, yet there was no cold.
The sun shone brightly, yet there was no heat.
He could only stare ahead, tears falling out of his eyes as his mother spoke encouraging words him.
”I’m glad I didn’t live long enough to see the apocalypse… But there’s a part of me that’s sad you have to live through it.” She turned back to gaze at the blazing sun, her eyes squinting.
”But I know you can do it. I’ll always love you boy.” She turned back to him, stepping a little closer and ruffing up his relatively long hair.
“Anyways, I think you should wake up soon. I’ve talked enough! Goodbye boy, I love you.” With those words, the middle aged woman vanished. Her long brown hair swayed out of existence, her visage having completely disappeared from Everett’s sights.
He sat there in pure silence, blankly staring at the setting sun.
His head sunk and he wiped his few tears.
Swiftly and enthusiastically he swung his head back up, a smile shining brightly.
“I love you too!” He chuckled through his sadness.
“Aw, you love me?”
Everett snapped his neck to the side.
Standing there was, unsurprisingly, Reese. Her arms were folded her lips upturned into a smile.
”Thank you so much!” She sarcastically feigned adoration, stepping closer to Everett and reaching her hand out.
”You’ve been asleep for a while, and I’d like it if you could explain the dead body in the kitchen…” Everett’s hand twitched towards her, half wondering how she was talking to him, and half wondering if he just really saw his mother.
"Yeah, sorry, okay." He nervously smiled, grabbing her hand.
It was a truly violent awakening, like he had just woken up from a dream where he fell flat on his face.
His eyes jolted awake, his body twitching underneath the weight on top of him.
"Huh?~" He heard a cute noise from below him, making him look down towards the weight that resided on his chest.
Reese slowly lifted her face, complete confusion and exhaustion plastered on it.
"Sorry, I had to be in contact with you... I guess my body fell asleep when I infiltrated your mind..." She murmured, pushing herself off of him, her palms pressing on his chest.
The story has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.
"How'd you do that anyway?" Everett questioned, still laying on the couch, his hands attempting to rub the exhaustion away from his face.
"Faceless said we could communicate with our minds through endless distance... I didn't think it would be too farfetched to sneak into your dreams." She smiled, "I simply just held you and thought about sharing my dream with yours." She explained.
Reese sat on the other side of the couch now, her fingers rubbing the corners of her eyes.
"But, I'm a lot more tired than I expected to be..." She whispered, moving her hands and turning to look at Everett.
"... So, how long was I asleep?" Everett asked, trying to look at the clock in the kitchen.
"Well, It's 6 am right now... And I only woke up recently so I have no idea when you fell asleep...." Reese answered.
"So 11 hours basically.." Everett muttered to himself, his head slowly whipping towards Reese.
"So then you figured out how to use your Kreus Reactor?!" He smiled brightly, staring Reese in the eyes.
There was silence for a few moments, tension building in the air as Reese held a flat face, giving no response.
"Yeah!" She burst with energy, throwing her hands in the air.
A wide grin was plastered on her face, happiness filling the two even though they didn't quite understand why.
"So how does it work? Why were you out for so long?... Can you control it?" Everett asked, sitting up and leaning closer to her.
“How about, I show you.” Reese said with a smile, instantly, her hair flickering with color.
A strange feeling sprouted in Everett’s chest, like he was feeling heartburn, or more accurately, heartwarmth.
He could feel an energy slowly proliferating itself throughout his being, reinforcing his muscles.
He could feel satisfaction within his stomach, his hunger disappearing.
He throat seemed to become more wet, no longer needing any water.
Even his eyes seemed to be able to handle not blinking.
But, what affected him the most, was his mind.
Before, his kreus was already high, so he was thinking quickly.
But now?… It was like his mind wasn’t able to calm down the newly formed energies.
He felt more emotional…
More, alive?…
He…
He had so much energy!
“Aha! This feels so different!” Everett happily exclaimed, jumping towards Reese who was opposite of him, tackling her into the couch.
He hugged her tightly, the warmth in his heart heavily affecting his mood.
Reese giggled, wrapping her arms around him in response.
”But, this is not good.” Everett said, releasing himself from Reese’s grasp.
”These emotions can be highly detrimental to us situationally. I don’t see a problem with being this way when it’s just me and you, but…” Everett’s thought speed was at an all time high.
It was incredible…
The space around his head was little twisting and turning due to the activity in his brain. Electricity and steam quite literally sparked around him, causing Reese to widen her eyes.
”I heard of this phenomena…” Faceless spoke from the side.
”It is said that the Great Eldratic God was a walking anomaly. His existence eternally emitting energy, and his body ever vibrating and churning with power…” Faceless muttered.
”And, according to the legends, he was a very chaotic and untamed creature… The pinnacle of unpredictability!”
”How unfortunate!” Faceless said, a thoughtful aura exuding from his head.
“Truly… But, the god was a creature born with this innately. He had no reason to seek normality. I do.” Everett responded.
”It shouldn’t be hard to stabilize this chaotic proliferation of energy.” Everett’s eyes closed, his fists balling as he searched deep within himself.
”Just, create pathways for the energy to follow… Make them long… endless even.” He mumbled, intent on Reese listening to his words.
”Despite the energy being ours, it still needs time to acclimate to it’s surroundings. So, put it on a path that will quickly get it used ti your body.” He explained.
”Concentrate them in areas you use consistently, but don’t overload them… Control the rate at which kreus moves throughout you, don’t let it consume you.” It didn’t even take him a few moments, before his body returned to normal.
His head was no longer sending off volts of electricity, and his fists weren’t quivering.
Now, he was simply Everett, although he did become more veiny, as if the kreus had decided to move through those specific premade pathways.
“You- You make everything seem so easy!” Reese pouted.
