Chapter 13, Numbers.

----------------------------------------

"Of course everything seems easy. It's not really that hard..." He chuckled, sitting back down on the couch. Reese simply sat next to him rather starstruck.

"That's wrong. You just have immense talent! Both of you!" Faceless exclaimed, walking towards the doorway that had been blasted through.

"I recommend stabilizing your kreus flow like I just did, before you have too much kreus and you become chaotic. I can help with it too." He extended a hand, Reese taking it with a smirk.

"You know, I think you just like touching me." She giggled in response.

They followed Everett's previously narrated steps, and before they knew it, kreus was being produced at an even faster rate.

"With the rate of your kreus production, you should be able to reach the level zero cap within a month!..." Faceless said enthusiastically, his emotion trailing off at the end. It seemed that he was rather shocked.

"One month is unheard of..." He mumbled, swiftly turning back towards the duo on the couch.

"What time is it Mister E!" A wide smile appeared on his blank face, Everett furrowing his brow and shaking his head at the sight.

He glanced over towards the TV, the idle screen displaying a clock at the top corner.

"6:59." He spoke.

"My timing is always unbelievably perfect..." Faceless held his beaming smile, his tongue flopping around freakishly.

"What does that mean?" Reese asked, unconsciously still holding Everett's hand.

"The Gods have an obsession with the numbers four and seven." Faceless tilted his head, raising a finger.

"Speak of the devils!"

A... feeling, passed through the two sitting on the couch. A sensation of nausea, heat, and even a small breeze.

The two stuttered, physically. Their bodily motions had paused for a fraction of a second, before they resumed.

"There's the Zero Point! The time in which the Gods interact with a broken universe for the first time..." Faceless rushed over towards Everett and Reese, standing over the two as they confusedly look at him.

Faceless tilted his head, his smile slipping away. The two could tell they were being examined, and they didn't know how to feel.

"Holy shit..." Faceless cursed, floating towards Reese.

"I want you to look at Everett's palm." He said, Everett's hand naturally opening hearing the words of Faceless.

"Why?" Everett questioned. Reese didn't however, reluctantly listening and looking at the hand that was on Everett's lap.

"Focus. Strain your eyes. Make it hurt almost." Reese tilted her head in confusion, but, her brows furrowed, and she complied.

"What's the poi-" She started, but in the next moment, everyone in the room was silenced.

Two rays of purple beamed from Reese's eyes, colliding with Everett's palm.

He almost roared in pain as a darkness traveled up through his veins, his hand surprisingly not being burnt straight through.

"WHAT THE HELL?!" Reese yelled. In an attempt to stop, she closed her eyes.

Thankfully, that was the solution.

Everett's other hand squeezed his forearm, the darkness from his palm stopping abruptly. His mangled and burnt palm rearranged itself, his skin lightening and repairing itself.

"Two powerful abilities were given to you both..." Faceless floated away, Reese and Everett both watching in awe as his hand returned to perfect condition.

"That wasn't my kreus... What's my ability?" Everett asked, looking up at Faceless.

"And mine?..." Reese asked confusedly.

"They laced your eyes with... The Law of Heat, and the Law of Finality..." Faceless was relatively shaken.

"As for you, Mister E, your body has been touched by the Law of Life. You'll infinitely repair and reproduce your cells at a nearly instant rate." Faceless nodded, a hand on his chin.

"This is GREAT!" He yelled happily.

"You two have already come into contact with three powerful Laws. When you advance in level, harnessing other Laws will be far easier!" There was a smile on his face as he hovered away.

"Even I don't know how the Gods manifest these powers but... I'll figure it out eventually... MOVING ON! Follow me. I have a quest for you two!" Faceless rambled, floating towards the door.

Everett and Reese made eye contact, their hands no longer interlocked. They were a little confused, but there were small smiles on their faces,

"So I'm immortal and-"

"I can shoot lasers from my eyes..." The two smiled at each other, bouncing up off the couch and following Faceless.

...

...

The two stepped onto the street, stumbling over the trashed pavement. Faceless floated in front of them, twisting his head in both directions, as if looking for oncoming traffic.

Of course, there was nothing in the street besides obliterated asphalt and misplaced pieces of cars.

"It's seven in the morning. People are discovering new changes and strange powers. More importantly..." The floating creature twitched, a sniffing sound emanating off of him.

At the same time, both Everett and Reese experienced similar movements. Their noses twitched, and their heads tilted. A low vibration could be felt in the ground, and the smell of sulfur snuck its way into their nostrils.

The sound couldn't exactly be described, but it was as if the low humming abruptly became vigorous, condensing then bursting out with a bang.

Everett and Reese grasped at their ears, feeling them pop. They buckled, instinctively ducking down and wincing in pain.

"Bring on the gateways!" The two looked up, glancing past Faceless whom had his arms spread, basking in the light that was shining straight through him.

Everett had to look around the creature, while Reese was able to see the scenery in its full glory.

In the center of the street where Praegressus had once passed, was a blazing light. It was circular, a large orange film, a portal to be exact.

It twisted and turned, space shifting and folding over itself.

"A wormhole that connects the demon home world with ours..." Faceless said with an agape smile.

"A doorway to hel!" Faceless spun around, looking at the two awe stricken humans.

"For forty-four minutes, fodder will pour out of this gate. The quest I'm issuing to you two is..." Faceless' tongue swung around.

"Slaughter every demon that steps out of this gate."
