Chapter 5, His Visitor.
----------------------------------------
"Everett...Everett?...Everetttt~..." There was a distant voice, calling to him.
Shut it. He thought, wishing he could just sleep.
Hadn't he had enough problems since the day he was born? Now the world was ending? Why couldn't he just sleep?...
"You have a visitor, Mister E!" It was like a whisper inside of his head, and he could clearly tell who it was.
"Faceless." he groaned awake, opening his eyes and staring directly into the strangely familiar, yet unfamiliar purple eyes.
"Well... My name is actually Reese Wu! I'm sure you didn't forget me that quickly Everett..." The girl chuckled, Everett not being able to help but notice the dark bags under her eyes.
"Have you been crying?" He asked, sitting up as Reese backed away from him.
"Ha.... Well, that thing killed both my parents so I guess I can't help it if I cried a bit!" She said enthusiastically, her eyes tearing up.
Everett's eyes widened in response to her words, his mouth opening, yet no words escaping.
"A hug would be a nice response!" Faceless' familiar voice rung in his ears, causing his arms to almost involuntarily wrap around the kneeling girl.
"Y-You know my story... My mom died abruptly too, so I get it." He consoled, rubbing her back while she let out a few tears into his shoulder.
"It's fine! It's fine!" Reese backed away, getting off her knees.
"I'm stronger than you think Everett." She reached her hand out to Everett, helping him to his feet.
"So what are you doing laying here in the door of an empty car?" She asked, Everett not paying much attention.
As to why?
He couldn't help but wonder when it got so dark...
"Hey, what time is it?" He asked Reese, her head tilting in response.
She glanced down at the watch on her wrist while Everett continued to glare off to the side.
"It's about 5, why?" She asked, confused.
But of course, Everett only continued to stare off into space.
"Can you believe that you absorbed every last bit of the kreus?" Faceless asked.
"I didn't explain what that was did I?... I already told you everything is living! Kreus is what gives life to all things... It births souls, enhances them... It's a sort of supernatural energy that is existing within everything. The more of it you have, the smarter you are, or the stronger you are... the longer you will live maybe! It is a potential enhancer, and also a marker!" Faceless dumped the information onto Everett.
The author's tale has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.
"The point of having you absorb all of that, was to increase the amount of kreus you have... to increase it beyond the average of all humans! With it, the targeted attack of the Gods will happen to you for sure, and it will be even more potent! As of course, the way the Gods are able to take advantage of the broken rules by connecting with the kreus of an existence and engineer them into Rule Weavers!" Faceless crazily laughed, Everett having no clue what to say.
"I have always loved the way the Gods operated... It's so intriguing!" Everett turned his gaze away from the maniac, focusing back on Reese while he reeled in all the information.
"Well... It seems I've been asleep in that car for nearly 6 hours!" He nervously chuckled, scratching the back of his head.
He leant against the car, Reese looking at him in shock.
She quickly wiped her tears away and approached Everett, grabbing his hand.
"Would you wanna come back to the camp with me? Surely you're hungry... Are you alright? How'd you even get there in the first place?" Reese asked worriedly, dragging him away from the car.
"Well... Yes I am hungry but, what camp? And if anything, I'd rather bring you back to my place... I'm sure its safer than some camp is." He laughed, eyeing Faceless as he taunted him from behind Reese, giving her bunny ears.
"Do you wonder how I knew she would find you?" Faceless asked, but Everett ignored him.
"Your place?..." Reese asked shyly. "How naughty of you, at least take me on a date first~"
Everett's eye grew wide while Reese giggled at him, tugging on his hand.
"But, yeah! Your place sounds better than a refuge with dozens of random and injured people... Some of the hospitals were trampled by that thing so... Things are dire it seems." She told him, Everett listening intently.
"Well... It's this way, not entirely too far." He pointed down the destroyed street.
"It passed right by my house actually..." He muttered.
"Ha, straight through mine." She chuckled, sweat threatening to drip off the tip of Everett's nose.
He slowly dropped his hand, a nervous smile appearing on his face.
"I guess it's not the time to joke, is it." A hint of shame was displayed on Reese's face, but Everett chose to overlook it.
"I get it, I can't blame you." He responded.
"But, let's talk about more pressing matters! A camp? I'm sure they had some information, did you learn anything?" Everett said, leading Reese towards his apartment, her hand in his.
"Uhm, well... over a thousand have been estimated to have died... The creature seems to be wandering around aimlessly, and, something they haven't said but... I think it's getting bigger, more complex." She said.
"I swear, when it rammed through my house 5 hours ago, it just looked like a housed sized, quadrupedal, land fish, alligator thing... But when I saw it on the news just an hour ago?..." Reese trailed off, shaking her head.
"It was... It's like a dragon almost! It was standing on two feet... It's legs were the ones that had knees then halfway down were bent the other way... It's arms were thick, and it's body was filled with thick jagged scales... It had a small protrusion on the tip of it's snout... It's... It's an ungodly creature I swear! And it's even bigger now! It was like the size of a skyscraper at least 300 feet tall!" She spoke, throwing her free arm around, almost like she was Faceless, just talking with more shock instead of happiness.
"So Praegressus is already that big?..." Everett muttered, Reese's hand twitching in his grip.
"Praegressus? Is that like German or something? Is that what you named it?" She asked him, making Everett miss a step.
"Well... Uh, that's what they named it. I think it's Latin" He responded, pointing at his head with a smile.
"Ohh..." Reese said, completely unsure of what to say.
"So, the voices in your head know Latin?" She asked, her head tilted with a smile.
"Yeah, I guess so..." He too laughed. "I actually didn't notice that."
"Do they have names?"
"Well, I call one of them Faceless."
"...Is he... Faceless?"
"Yeah, surprising isn't it?"
"That wasn't even funny..."
"But did I not make you laugh?"
"Haha, yes you did, how funny!"
"You two are very cute, but I'd like it if you moved faster... Remember Mister E, time is ticking!"
