Chapter 35: Head Researcher
Once I've gathered everyone, I announce that the Reaper and the Searcher will be joining our group.
I relayed the words to a skeleton officer, who shouted the announcement for me.
Skeleton Officer: "The searcher, you are now the army's head researcher." You have access to all of our spellbooks, information books, and maps. You can also get someone to be your tester or test subject as long as they agree."
The Searcher: "I'm honored with the position, but I shall have a unique title since Head Researcher doesn't match with me. I want to be called The Searcher, and my position is to be named the same."
Idmon: "That would be fine."
He seemed to be happy about the number of books that we had.
The Searcher: Amazing, Amazing!!!"
He was zooming here and there. After the announcement, everyone got back to their work.
The Searcher: "(t)Just to let you know, Lord Idmon. Centuries of storing and studying information alone gave me a unique skill. It was a skill that let me store information in my mind neatly. They have their sections, and once I think about a keyword, the nearest possible answers pop up."
He stayed still and seemed to be waiting for something.
The Searcher: "I named it...

Oh. It was a beneficial skill.
Idmon: "There was a question that I had from way back then."
The Searcher: "Please, Lord Idmon. Ask away."
Idmon: "The goblins were behaving weirdly in some of our battles. There were times that they fought to their deaths without fear or even signs that they felt pain. Another time was when they went berserk. Their eyes turned red, and they did not stop fighting as long as they had a life to do so."
The Searcher: "Hmm... We have two most possible reasons for this, Lord Idmon."
He put his hand over his head and was casting The Searcher: "First, it was possible that fighting with the dwarves for a long time forced them to evolve into something more powerful to overcome the stalemate. This possibility was common in history. Monsters are adapting to situations and ultimately defeating their enemies in the end." He looked straight at me. The Searcher: "A terrifying example of this kind was humans. They evolved into something monstrous. If what you said to me before was true, then they must be the current gods of this continent." Idmon: "(t)Hmm...." To think that he would evaluate them as gods! The Skeleton King was mighty, but the humans were even more so. The Searcher: "The second option is that another race was controlling them. If that's the case, there must be another power at play in this war. You should be wary if this is the case. This other race could possess the spell Idmon: "It's all clear to me now. Thanks, The Searcher." The Searcher: "You're most welcome, Lord." "By the way, you're a reaper, right?" The Searcher: "Yes, Milord?" Idmon: "Where's your scythe?" The Searcher: "Scythe... Scythe. OH! MY SCYTHE! It was not left in the tomb, right!?" Idmon: "It wasn't there." The Searcher: "Oh, I must have misplaced it again. The last time I wielded it, it must have been 223 years ago." Idmon: "Oh, try to find it. We need all the help we can get in this war." The Searcher: "Yes, Milord." It seems this searcher is not so reliable at all. However, the skills and power of a reaper are an undeniable asset to our army.
