Chapter 17: The Crossing
After a few more hours of marching, our group arrived at the border of the central region and the southern region.
Well, something did quite surprise me.
There was a low wooden wall blocking the path in the middle of some stone mountains.
On the walls were goblin sentries and warriors that numbered up to 200.
This wall is crazy! I only have around 25 men with Bon and Lina. Even though some of them are strong enough and have evolved already, we can’t take out 200 goblins.
By the way, the group evolved into
10 Skeleton Warriors, 5 Skeleton Archers, 4 Skeleton Mages, with Bon being one of them, 1 Banshee (Lina), and the remaining five were still skeleton soldiers.
How could I do this?
Idmon: “(t) Bon... Lina. Come with me; we will scout ahead. And you...”
I point to one of the Skeleton Mages (who will be named Mag).
Idmon: “Stay here and command these guys to remain in position.”
Mag: “(t) Yessss… Milord...”
He replied!
So, skeleton mages can use

We arrived a few meters from the wall.
We did our best to hide in the bushes, and it seems that the goblins don’t have good senses.
Hmm.
I think that might be the best way.
I had a plan in mind, so we were already falling back to set that in motion, but suddenly, a goblin shouted.
“Eeeek! Intruders!”

Oops. Spotted.
Lina took the initiative and made an ice wall.
She can do that!? That was not in the monster registry!
Ice has blocked the path and impaled a large group of goblins.
Lina smiled.
This crazy ghost girl.
After that, we ran back to the group to initiate the plan.
Idmon: “(t) Shields up! Mages and archers are in the middle. We will cover the back with the other skeleton soldiers.”
The Skeleton Warriors used massive shields and spears that I bought way back then. They could hold back the attacks of these goblins.
The goblins were using slingshots and short bows. This battle will be easy.
Idmon: “(t) Charge!!!”
I raised my spear, and we began our charge.
After charging the spells, mages and archers release range attacks on the low wall.
Bon and Lina also did their share of ranged attacks.
The goblins fell, group by group. Their slingshot attacks fell like rain on water.
They could take advantage of their numbers since some of the goblins are too scared to come down from the wall.
After we arrived at the front of the gate, we started ramming the gate with our shields and fire spells.
After a fireball from Bon, the gate falls.
But a hobgoblin appears! Along with the remaining goblins.
It charged at us, swinging its wooden club wildly in every direction.
I ordered the men to take care of the remaining goblins while me, Bon, and Lina will take care of this hobgoblin.
I lured an attack from the hobgoblin by dashing directly to his front.
He made a slow downward swing that, of course, missed me.
This attack was nothing to my
After the dodge, I tried piercing my spear into his side with my thrust skill.
The spear hit, and it sank, but no blood came out. Its skin was too thick!
While this was happening, Bon prepared a
I jumped back a couple of steps, and they released the spells.
Take that, Hobgoblin!
He took the spells directly, but he was still standing!
And it seems that he took very little damage!
His skin is like a shield, then.
It tried charging at Bon and Lina. Bon was hit and thrown away for quite some distance, while Lina was able to dodge since she was a ghost.
Bon seemed like he couldn't continue this one. It’s up to Lina and me.
Idmon: “(t) Use your Howl skill... Stun the hobgoblin, and I will finish it.”
Lina: “(t) Okay, boss.”
She can use telepathy too!? Why do you have so many unique skills!?
As the hobgoblin was running straight at us, Lina used
The hobgoblin dropped its weapon and held its ears. It was screaming from the pain in his ears.
Uryaaaaaahhh!
I intervened swiftly and with the force of a charge thrust directly into his wailing mouth.
It went in! I did not go through his back, but this is not my Trump card yet. Hehe.
... is what I said in my mind, but what happened was an N.E. explosion.
I tied an N.E.-filled crystal to the spear tip there earlier.
(N.E. means negative energy.)
Hehehe.
The storage crystal at the tip of the spear exploded inside the mouth of the hobgoblin.
It fell. After a few icy breaths, it stopped breathing.
Idmon: “(t) Victory!”
Yah! The men raised their weapons along with me.
It was not without sacrifice, though.
We lost two skeleton warriors and all five of the skeleton soldiers.
I gathered their bones and hoped that I could revive them later.
Also, Bon is critically injured. Or, should I say, his bones?
I ran to Bon’s side. He had a lot of cracks here and there.
I was so worried when I arrived. Bon was already healing himself!
He was pouring N.E. into the cracked part of his bones and mending it.
He already replaced even the broken bones with spare ones from the fallen guys.
This guy is reliable.
The battle ended, and I took the skeleton of the hobgoblin. If I have some time, I’ll try to revive him to be one of us with the help of Bon.
Finally, we are in the south!
I can’t seem to think anything will go wrong for us this time!
but we all know that’s not true.
