Chapter 2

As the bus approached the city, I saw that pure white walls surrounded the city. It gave off a vintage vibe adding in the designs of the buildings. Even though it was evening, the gate leading to the city was crowded with people who were trying to get into the city.

The bus slowly moved on to what looked like a guard post with a guard standing by. It seems the buses are not allowed into the city. A guard came in and asked about the identification papers.

(Master, I would suggest you to use the village of Listin as your hometown. It's a small village in the Andon continent in the country of Asmana. I have deduced that this will be the correct way to avoid raising suspicions. It is quite far so verifying it from this continent will not be possible)

I see. Let's go with that then.

Since I didn't have any papers, I told the guard so and he told me to come with him. Eva also tagged along. We were made to wait in the guard house and an officer wearing a red and silver uniform came in to talk to us.

He shook my hand and told me his name was Werner.

"Please write your information in this paper", He said handing me some kind of form.

I saw that it requested my name, age and address.

I didn't know how to write this world's language so I asked Airi.

(Master, please try again)

I felt letters floating in my head. Seems like how I was able to talk to people of this planet, I would be able to write as well.

I quickly filled in the details.

When I was writing my hometown, Eva looked at me quizzically.

"It seems I'm getting a few memories back."

"That's good to hear, Rayce."

I gave the form to the officer and he made me place my hand on a piece of transparent glass embedded into the table.

"This is a device to check your criminal history. It collects data from this continent and if you have any history it will show up", the guard explained.

It glowed green.

Since everything was over, he gave me a temporary slip and told me to go to the adventurers association to procure a permanent proof of identity. He also told me that this slip will be valid for seven days and to renew it I would need to come here again.

We said goodbye and went inside the city.

The roads were paved beautifully with red bricks and the lights from the lamp posts were illuminating the beautiful city. Many people were walking along the road with an occasional carriage passing by. Tall buildings made of white and blue stones stood on the side of the road. I surmised that those were at least six stories.

"How is it", Eva asked.

"It's beautiful", I said. It truly was another world.

"Right, I think it's best to go to the adventurers association and sell the monsters now", Eva said.

"Alright, let's do that", I agreed.

Soon we came to a five story building with a medieval architecture. It was pure white and was striking to look at from up close. A big sign on top of the doorway spelt "Adventurer association of Flaedan".

We went inside and the hall was buzzing with people talking to each other. You could see adventurers everywhere carrying different weapons. Some were drinking in a makeshift pub at one corner of the hall. Some were talking near a big white board with small pieces of glasses embedded into the board from where letters glowed. Eva explained that it was a quest board.

(Master, I would suggest you to start taking quests as soon as possible to increase your power and familiarize yourself with your skills)

This text was taken from Royal Road. Help the author by reading the original version there.

I agreed with Airi. I don't know how soon or how long it will take for the entity that Drexa told me about to appear so I need to be able to hold my own in front of it. There's no telling how strong it will be.

Soon we came upon the reception.

A beautiful girl greeted us.

"Good evening, my name is Reina. How can I help you?"

"Yes, we're here to sell monsters and register him as an adventurer", Eva said.

"I see. May I know what kind of monster it is."

"A few bohloks."

"I see. I assume the monsters are in your storage bag."

"Yeah."

"Please come to the back with me."

We were led through a door next to the counter and after passing a few rooms, we reached a big open space with few people running about with cleavers and what looked like skinning knives. A few unknown monsters were on big tables and people were working on them.

Reina went to talk to someone while we looked around. People around were using tools which I assumed were magic tools to perfectly skin the monsters with an occasional help from someone. The blood was being drained and the flesh was being neatly cut and those were being packed in big containers with rune symbols on them.

A big burly fellow with what looked like a cigar in his mouth appeared along with Reina.

He held out his hand which I shook.

"Name's Adeon. I take care of the monster corpses."

"My name's Rayce. Nice to meet you", I said and Eva nodded at him. She seemed to know him.

"How many bohloks do you have?"

"Five."

"Come here."

We were led to another open space with rune symbols on the floor.

"Please place them here."

Eva went forward and chanted something and the Bohlok she had put in her bag came out. She beckoned to me and I concentrated and took out the few bohloks I had in my storage.

"Ho, these are some fine corpses. The fur has almost no damage. How were they killed?"

"Magic", I said.

"I see. This is some exceptional magic manipulation."

Reina asked if we would like to sell everything or reserve any parts.

We agreed to sell everything.

"Please come back to the reception with me now", Reina said.

We said goodbye to Adeon and made our way back inside the building.

As soon as we reached the reception, she gave me a slip generated from a small machine and told me to trade it in for the money by tomorrow. It will take until tomorrow to dismantle the monsters.

"Thank you. I'll do that", I said.

"Eva", someone called her from behind and I saw that it was a group of people.

She said they were acquaintances and went away to talk to them.

I turned to the receptionist and said.

"Can I register as an adventurer now."

"Yes, please wait a moment."

She ducked down under the desk and brought out a form.

"I will now be processing your form for the adventurer registration. Please fill in the details requested."

I looked at the form and there was an extra space to write about the skills I have.

I put in the ones I haven't concealed which were Magic (Fire, Water), Storage, Hand to hand combat, Alchemy, Weapon mastery and Enhanced hearing.

I didn't put in appraisal because I didn't know how rare appraisal was. Better to be safe.

(Good choice, Master)

At this point Airi seemed like a silent observer with comments in between.

Raina took the form and looked at it for a moment.

"Are the details correct?"

"Yes."

"Please wait a moment."

She tapped at a piece of glass embedded into the counter like the one at the guard house for criminal verification and spoke some words and then scanned the form. She then told me to place my hand on it.

As soon as I did the mirror glowed green.

"It is a skill verifying tool. We verify the skills at the time of registration."

"I see."

The skill's name was visible on the glass and as soon as I placed my hand on it, the letters glowed green.

I put my hand a few more times and the skills were verified.

She then gave me a brown card the size of a credit card where my name was written and the letter F. There were three gold colored lines on the card. She explained that using this card you can verify your identification anywhere. She also showed me a terminal where we can insert the card.

She then explained to me about guild ranks with F being the lowest and S being the highest. It seems the more monsters I kill, the more my rank will increase. You can also take special nominated requests which helps in increasing ranks.

And how I can choose and take requests from the guild board which was the one I saw when I came in through the hall around where many people were gathered. There are requests all year around. She also gave me a book containing adventurer etiquettes.

"Could I loan some money from the association?", I asked. I explained that I was a traveler and did not have this country's currency.

"I see. The loan amount would not be much since you're a new adventurer but we can accommodate your request."

She asked for the card which she inserted into the terminal and typed something on the glass attached.

The she took out a small pouch from behind the desk and handed it to me.

"The loan amount is 5 silver coins. Please verify."

(Yes, Master. Those are exactly 5 silver coins)

"Verified", I said.

She explained that the record will be added to my account and it will be adjusted with the next transaction with the guild.

I thanked her and searched for Eva.

She saw that I was done with the receptionist and came back. It seems her business with the group was done.

"Are you done with the registration?"

I smiled and showed her the guild card.

"Great, now you are an adventurer like me!"

"Haha"

"Shall we eat something, it's my treat."

"Yes, let's", I said. I was quite famished and I wanted to try this world's food.

"I know a great restaurant. Let's go there."

I nodded.
