Chapter 57: What to Do When Your Dog Has No Appetite

Who in the wizarding world would refuse to own a dragon? Hagrid certainly wouldn't. As for a bad temper... what's the big deal? Kids are just a little mischievous.

Being returned by the Romanian dragon reserve only shows how incompetent they are. Look at them, skinny as sticks. How could they possibly take care of a dragon?

"Alright, if you become a professor…"

"No problem!" Hagrid didn't wait for Kyle to finish. He waved his hand and said, "I agree to your bet."

He didn't even think twice about whether Kyle could convince Newt, or if Dumbledore would agree to let a dragon into Hogwarts. He just agreed.

As if he was afraid Kyle would change his mind, he quickened his pace, running with the three of them to the vicinity of the Mooncalf burrows.

"Stay here. Don't go any further."

Hagrid turned back and said seriously to the three of them, "Mooncalfs' dances are very physically demanding. They need to get plenty of sleep during the day. So, you guys have to be as quiet as possible."

Kanna and Cedric silently nodded and then looked curiously at the tent-like burrows.

Kyle didn't go with them?

Mooncalfs. He had seen them countless times at Newt's.

He was focusing all his attention on the Whomping Willow trees around them.

Compared to other places, the Whomping Willow trees here were incredibly tall, thick, and long.

Kyle went forward and knocked on the trunk. It was solid.

Seeing Kyle's action, Hagrid explained softly, "Since Mooncalfs bury their dung in the ground, the Whomping Willow trees usually grow very well where they are.

Right, this is also a Kneazle nest."

Kyle looked up and soon saw countless "little green sprouts" on the Whomping Willow trees.

This was the same as what he saw at Newt's. In the magical suitcase, Kneazles and Mooncalfs were neighbors.

Kyle picked up a branch from the ground and asked, "Hagrid, can I collect some branches?"

"You can. But what do you need them for?"

"Just some ideas."

When they came out of the Forbidden Forest, Hagrid was carrying a large bundle of dry branches.

Kyle had originally planned to use the Levitation Charm to take them, but Hagrid thought that was too troublesome and volunteered to carry them.

After they came out of the Forbidden Forest, Cedric went back to the castle first, because he had class.

Kyle and Kanna stayed.

Unlike last time, Hagrid enthusiastically invited them to his cabin.

When they entered the room, a big black dog came bounding over, wagging its tail so fast it was almost like an electric fan.

Kyle hugged its head and rubbed its ears, almost making it roll its eyes.

Honestly, it felt really good.

"Alright, Fang, come here."

At this point, Hagrid put a bowl of grey, mushy something on the ground. Fang immediately ran over excitedly and dove headfirst into the bowl.

Hagrid patted his head, "Eat slowly. There's more."

Taking advantage of this, Kyle looked around.

There was only one room. Hams and wild chickens were hanging from the ceiling. A copper kettle was boiling water in the fireplace. There was a big bed in the corner, with a patchwork quilt.

It looked unremarkable, even a little shabby.

But Kyle noticed that the ham was made from a Tebo Warthog. The "rope" hanging was white and shiny, and it looked like it was made from a certain type of thread.

He guessed it was Acromantula silk.

The cushion they were sitting on was also made from unicorn hair. Although it wasn't all tail hair, it was still luxurious enough.

It was the first time he had sat on such an expensive cushion.

After Hagrid sat down, Kyle took the initiative to introduce them, "This is Kanna. The one who left just now is Cedric. They're both in Hufflepuff, just like me, but Cedric is in second year."

"Hello."

Hagrid greeted Kanna happily and took a Rock Cake from the plate next to him, handing one to her and Kyle. "You must be hungry. Try my cooking."

When Kanna took the Rock Cake, she suddenly felt it get heavy in her hand, as if she was holding a brick.

Her eyes twitched slightly. She wisely didn't put it in her mouth.

Kyle didn't eat either, but he asked Hagrid for another one. He said he'd eat it with Cedric when they got back.

Hagrid was very happy to hear this. He generously gave Kyle the whole plate of Rock Cakes and told him to take as many as he wanted whenever he needed.

But Kyle didn't want any more. He just took two and put them in his pocket.

He certainly wasn't going to eat them. Even if Rock Cakes tasted good, he couldn't enjoy them without the teeth of a giant.

But they were good for defense.

He had been driven almost neurotic by Snape lately. If one day he couldn't take it anymore, he could use these to hit him on the back of the head.

No, he should offer Snape some food. It's just that he didn't catch it.

Taking the plate back from Kyle, Hagrid looked at him and said nervously, "That, I have a dog, but he hasn't been feeling well lately. His appetite isn't good either. What could be wrong?"

Kyle subconsciously looked at Fang, who was gorging himself.

No energy? No appetite?

If he remembered correctly, this was the second bowl.

"Not Fang." Seeing Kyle's questioning gaze, Hagrid quickly explained, "It's another dog."

"Oh…"

As soon as he said it, Kyle understood. Hagrid was talking about Fluffy.

He looked around again, but he didn't see Fluffy.

"Didn't I tell you before?" Kyle turned back and said, "Just release him into the Forbidden Forest."

"I did, but it didn't work." Hagrid's voice was a little aggrieved, "He was much better when he was in the Forbidden Forest, but as soon as he gets back to the room, he's listless again."

...

Kyle was speechless.

Hagrid's comprehension was something else. Did he think it was walking a dog? Bringing it back?

"Hagrid, Fluffy…"

"Only one head. One head!"

Kyle took a deep breath and ignored Hagrid, who was desperately denying it and continued, "Fluffy is a large magical creature. They naturally love open spaces.

If they stay in a low and enclosed environment for too long, they'll be very depressed."

"It's not low here," Hagrid muttered under his breath.

"That's just for you." Kyle patiently explained, "In only a year, Fluffy will grow to three meters tall. His length will exceed five meters. By then, he'll be too big to even turn around in here."
