Sparrow Truman April 28th, 20XX
The quads, Rin, Yuko, Mori and Airi stood in position at the doorway, ready to act at any time and Melissa stayed in a nearby vantage point.
My phone buzzed in the car.
ML: The Quads have approached the target.
ML: The target is resisting.
ML: Nevermind, he seems to have given up.
ML: Quads and target approaching your car in T minus 30 seconds.
ML: T- 15 seconds.
ML: We’ll meet you at your house.
Before I could even respond, a man’s relatively large figure was shoved into the passenger seat and his assailants fled in the opposite direction at the speed of light.
Jake whipped the bag over his head off and looked around briefly but quickly got a handle of what was going on and scowled.
“ You know you could just text me. this type of thing is the reason Finn think you’re a secret mob boss within the school”
I shrugged and started the engine then began to drive,
“ well, it's more effective this way. After all what if you’d made other plans?”
Stolen from its rightful place, this narrative is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.
He only shook his head in resignation and stayed quiet. His stuff had been shoved into the back seat as usual but there was something different.
A wooden bat that looked to be made of dyed wood stuck out of his backpack and made its presence known by reflecting the sunlight as we drove.
“ What’s up with the bat? According to my sources, you only do track and mixed martial arts.”
“ I do, it was a gift from Finn…...but your sources? You investigated me?”
“ Of Course I did! I had to see why you were the only other person he talked to at school aside from me. I mean, what if you were a bad person? I couldn't have you hanging around Finley if you were.”
I refocused on the road as I made a particularly nasty turn but I could feel Jake’s stunned gaze on me as he tried to figure me out but I had already given my explanation.
Under his intense gaze, I couldn't help but turn my head and tease,
“ If you keep staring at me so intensely I might blush”
Honestly, Jake Adams was a very, very, good looking man.
Unlike Finn’s more androgynous charm that made him prettier than most females, Jake was very clearly a man.
He had broad shoulders and an obvious fit physique that worked in harmony with his slightly rugged face and sharp eyes that were set atop strong cheekbones and a sharp jawline. And today he had just finished practice so he was still damp from his shower and his light shirt stuck to him-
“ Sparrow! Look at the Road!”
He suddenly yelled.
I turned forward to see myself uncomfortably close to a rather large truck and slowed down drastically. He wiped his forehead clean of sweat and started to speak in a strained tone,
“ How have you not have your license revoked yet?”
I huffed and quickly retorted,
“ I’m usually a great driver okay? It’s not my fault that you’re so good looking I was distracted.”
Of course, after I said that he went silent and turned away so I wouldn't see the flustered expression on his face.
How cute.
