Chapter 39: Finley, Cai and Aies (Part B)

Finley Cai Aies Hall April 21st, 20XX

An ominous shiver ran down my spine as I regained consciousness in my apartment and I knew it was going to be a troublesome day.

“Finley! We, the keepers of the universe are contacting you and we need your help-”

The voice was cut off with a pained grunt but I paid it no attention as I jolted upwards to try to locate the source of the voice and shifted into a defensive position when I failed.

“Oi! I only agreed to let you speak first because you promised you wouldn't scare him.”

Another voice interjected in an irritated tone but was only met with a scoff from the first voice in reply.

“Come on! Who wouldn't be freaked out when hearing two voices in their head? At least I had fun with it. You’d have probably gone for a formal introduction.”

“ Who’s speaking!”

The truth was I already half-knew who it was or they were I just didn't want to admit it.

“Not admitting it ain't gonna change the truth, buddy.”

The First voice joked before the Second voice took over,

“Perhaps it would be better to bring him here.”

I wasn't sure what he meant by ‘in here’ but I could hear the grin in The First’s voice.

“I don't mind, but who’s going to take over the body?”

The second sighed,

“Looks like it’ll have to be me, He hasn’t accessed your powers yet so you technically don't have a body yet. Finley!”

I snapped to attention at my name.

“Yeah?”

“If you want to meet us you have to activate the locket. “

“It would be really stupid to obey the voice in your head, you know? Like, I know you're going to do it as your sense of rationality has been worn down by the various surrealistic events that have happened in your life recently but like…. just putting it out there- Ouch!”

The voice was cut off with a pained sound once again, probably having been hit particularly hard but it did raise a good point.

“ And what happens when I activate the locket?”

The forever irritating first voice groaned,

“Ayy, Is now really the time to be asking questions? it's bad enough that you're too weak to handle my inheritance but now you're an indecisive wimp as well?”

“ I refuse to be goaded by an imaginary voice in my head.”

It was when I had put the locket down and started to walk away from that I heard the second voice sigh,

“I really didn't want to have to do this but I don't really have a choice. I give you my apologies in advance Finley.”

The first voice cackled,

“I’m surprised you’re the first one to do this... maybe I’m rubbing off on you after all.”

All of a sudden my legs backtracked towards the table and my arms picked up the locket and began to put it over my head.

“ What’s going on?!”

I tried to stop myself but my arms forced the locket over my head.

“Say it, Finley!”

I shook my head rapidly,

“ Are you insane! Why the hell would I?!”

The first voice pitched in,

“You know he’s right, I’m surprised he hasn't checked himself into a mental institution by now.”

The second voice growled with irritation and retorted in a strained voice that showed how much effort he was putting.

“Just hurry up and help me already, would you?”

First sighed,

“Fine, he just has to say the word right?”

The Second grunted in reply.

“Yeah. Just have to say it.”

Suddenly the two went quiet and I regained control of my limbs but I stayed still as a statue. not wanting to risk tensing and being taken advantage of.

“ Hello? Are you guys still there?”

I tried to call out but I got no response. I tried two and five more times but it was like they were never there. I shook it off, thinking that it was a hyper-realistic dream that I’d had and went back to sleep, intending to use the time stopwatch to catch up on work later on.

After about half an hour of rest, I felt a now overly familiar tug at my stomach and accompanying nausea. I was being summoned... probably to the fairies, seeing as I had just left Theodulus. I was annoyed to say in the least but I had little to no time to react as the feeling got stronger and stronger with each passing second. I hurriedly put on my locket and said the word I had been so determined not to say,

“Reserare”

The second the word left my voice box I heard a cackle and realized that I had been tricked. I felt the transformation begin and my vision went black.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When I came to I was in yet another location. A simplistic four-walled dorm room with the last wall being a wall-sized picture of my room.
“If someone ever made my life into a movie it’d be a pretty dang expensive one- is what you’re thinking right?”
I spun around to see a white-haired and red-eyed version of myself sporting a mischievous grin. The next thing I noticed about him outside of the hair and eyes was the Silver horn that poked out of his forehead, much similar to Theodulus’s but quite significantly smaller.
“ Where am I? and who are you?”
He dipped into a playful bow, that held no hint of the subservience that the action represented.
“ Secondary persona Aies here at your service .”
“Persona? you don't mean..”
It was then that everything clicked into place. My panic faded dramatically and I took the time to actually look around the room. the walls were painted a different color, One black, silver and gold and the final being an eye-level picture of my room. I finally turned back to Aies.
“ So where am I?”
“This Finley, Is the inside of your mind.”
“The inside of my mind is a bachelor pad?”
He laughed,
“ Hey, it is your mind. the room only looks like this because you think it’s what it would look like.”
The interior of the room was pretty basic and looked normal except for the three ornate thrones at the center of the room. Silver to the left and a black at the right with the largest being golden at the center. Aies noticed me staring at them and coughed to get my attention.
“ Those are the thrones of course. Usually, the black one is in the middle but since Cai is operating in the outside world he temporarily becomes the main. Hence he gets the center.”
Aies suddenly walked over to the desk and picked up a mic, switched it on and started to yell into it.
“Cai! move to a mirror would ya?”
A voice rang out through invisible speakers. Cai presumably.
“ There’s no need to yell, I can hear you perfectly well.”
Suddenly the image on the wall which I had taken for a picture began to move like a live stream camera all the way to the bathroom mirror. There, reflected at us was Cai with obnoxious Metallic gold hair above my usual black.
“ Oi! I kind of like my hair you know? and I know you do too.”
I grabbed the mic being held out to me by Aies.
“ Can you hear my thoughts?”
Aies and Cai paused for a minute then suddenly began to chuckle.
“ What’s so funny?”
After a solid ten minutes of laughter, it was Aies that finally answered.
“ Finley, I know that you’re slow and all but you should realize that we can’t hear your thoughts, we are your thoughts. there's nothing you think that we don't know and vise versa. We are still a part of you, you know? It’s just we can communicate now.”
Cai interrupted this new revelation,
“ Aies, it’s almost time for Finn to leave for work. I’m going to switch back.”
Aies quickly got to work dragging the brack chair to the middle and dragging the gold to the right then directed me to the black chair and sat in the silver.
“ Alright, Cai.”
