From the journal of James Fernandez
This was supposed to be a quiet, simple train ride. I was on my way to Havana to drop my daughter off to my ex wife. Now I'm standing in a train car my daughter clutched to me shaking. A few feet away from a lifeless body.
James rolls a 16 on an investigation check
I examined the body as beat I could while still being respectful. There are markings around Señora Martinez's throat indicating she was strangled. Her bag a rather notable design had been torn through as well. The only other evidence I have is word of mouth from the head engineer Señor Diaz and the Silveira's. It's all hearsay, and unfortunately does little to help without any form of confirmation. I reached up and scratched my head straining for what do next, when I realized the rest of the train was watching me waiting for some kind of answer.
"Okay can everyone please return to your cars, I'll visit you shortly for interviews. Please trust me the matter is well in hand."
I had nothing, I have little experience with murder investigations. Why did I volunteer for a position I am not qualified for? As I pondered this thought the other passengers returned to their cars. I then began my investigation of the rest of the car I shared with Señora Martinez.

James rolls a 4 on an investigation check
I gave a heavy sigh, of course there wouldn't be any useful footprints now. I just let the entire train though the car to view the body.
"Well, this was pointless." I say returning to my feet. The head engineer looks less than pleased.
"So the crime scene is…" he trails off for a moment.

Isabel rolls a natural 20 on investigation
"Actually it's not entirely useless papa, look!" Isabel pointed to the emergency escape on the top of the train.
I hadn't noticed it until now but there was a constant rattling noise in the car I had incorrectly attributed to the train car couplings. I now saw the emergency hatch partially open rattling with the movement of the train. Finally I had something, anything to work with.
"Good catch mi amor." I hugged my daughter close. "You know, you are quite good at this." I laughed before straightening back up.
"Okay, I suppose I should begin with the interviews, I think I'll start with the front of the train and work my way down the line." The head engineer nodded in agreement and we went to speak with the good father De la Fe.
Perhaps he'll be the one to give a confession this time?
