Chapter 84 - Dark Tower

Chapter 84 - Dark Tower

When noon arrived, after much mental discussion between them, a message from outside was received by Mira. They had to go out and meet with the other members of the sect.

Zane took a deep breath, not accepting to maintain this situation. But when he saw Mira approaching, raising her arms with those innocent and round eyes, he decided to forget about it for now, even suspecting that she did it on purpose. Zane even wondered if she knew what they were discussing in their minds. They then left the room with the little girl on their shoulders. She seemed to enjoy being there, having a high vantage point.

Gael nodded, satisfied. This girl knew when to act instinctively, even without knowing what they were discussing internally. And she could already hit Zane's weak spot whenever she wanted.

Outside, they were in a reserved area of the Vital Yin Sect within the Celestial Abyss City. That's where the new cultivators lived. And a short distance from the city was one of the three gigantic black towers commanded by the sect. It was in this tower that they were summoned.

As they approached, they saw around a hundred evil cultivators near the entrance. They were all eerily silent, so they turned when they noticed a slight tremor approaching.

Words like 'Whale,' 'Ogre,' or 'Orc' were already normal for Zane and Gael at this point. But it was always strange to attract so much unwanted attention. Shortly after they were noticed, a killing intent was firmly directed at them. The news of an Evil God-level talent had spread rapidly. And now all the young people in the sect knew the owner of that title.

"So you're the Goku. It's quite presumptuous to be late on the first day." A dry voice resonated; it was an elder with a bloodthirsty look. Everyone, including the older ones, wanted to prove themselves by killing this unimaginably talented individual. In a place where power and status were everything, they were being targeted mercilessly.

Zane was extremely annoyed by this new name they had gained and began to curse Gael mentally. Gael just commented, 'Well, at least we remind someone of a giant... and obese gorilla.'

Zane struggled to calm down, while Gael responded without much emotion to that elder. "I was busy cultivating, but I'm on schedule."

Everyone there turned to them and the little girl on their shoulders with a strange look. For these cultivators, cultivating meant one thing: 'Using the sect's supreme technique.' Soon, everyone made that connection.

Gael noticed those looks, but there was nothing to be done. Mira was oblivious to everything. Both Zane and Gael were surprised that she wasn't at all bothered by the killing intent focused on them and, consequently, on her.

The elder then spoke again after a snort. "Your group only had two new cultivators. One of them has Asura talent, and the other an Evil God. That's far from enough for what we need. That said, you will be placed with the cultivators of the previous generation."

He then gave an evil laugh. "With that level of talent, you won't have any problem surviving pathetic 'Common' and 'Demon' levels. Even if they are a few levels above in the same realm, right?"

Everyone listening had an equally sinister smile on their lips, then turned to the giant whale and Langrum standing proudly in the middle. She was very close to breaking through the realm back in the middle of the test. Now, she has also managed to reach the Foundation Establishment Realm.

"I'll explain to the newcomers then. Among all the cultivators here, we use Abyss Crystals as currency. They are harvested in the abyss between the towers and are very useful for cultivating wings. Unlike those spiritual crystals that outsiders use, the gift from the abyss has no impurities and doesn't cause any harm to cultivation."

He then took out a crystal the size of a stone; it was completely black with red lines on the surface. "When the time comes, you will have to work and mine it directly for the sect, but for now, you must earn the crystals. Besides being used for cultivation, they can be exchanged for techniques, weapons, and all sorts of things."

"Life here is not peaceful, and you will have to prove yourselves stronger. The main thing is that if you fail, you die. Only the living are worthy, no matter the means they use."

Then he turned to the gate of the tower behind and activated it, causing it to open slowly. "This is one of the black towers of our glorious sect. One of them is used only by the patriarch, the other by the elders. This one, however, was entirely designated for disciples to test themselves."

"Every month, a test will be conducted. And then, we will distribute the abyss crystals to the victors. There are other methods of earning crystals, but first, survive the test on the first floor for one hour. Enter!"

Zane and Gael took a step forward without caring too much. In this place, these crystals could help form wings, but no one cared much about that. The main point was to kill other cultivators and absorb their infernal laws, thus quickly forming the wing. Soon, it would be simpler, always making everyone kill each other. Thus, powerful cultivators would emerge and still be constantly pressured, rising higher and higher.

'I like this method. Coming here was really a good idea,' Zane said, mentally satisfied.

Everyone entered soon after taking a deep breath and focusing. The elder looked strangely at Zane and Gael, who were the first to step forward and still had their furnace with them. No one brought their slaves with them. This was a deadly test, and the furnaces only served for dual cultivation. They would only be a hindrance. Yet, there were no rules against it, so the elders didn't try to stop Zane and Gael either.

Passing through the gate, the world didn't change, and they weren't taken anywhere, which surprised Zane and Gael. Well, the tower was as large and wide as a gigantic mountain, so there was no need to teleport somewhere else with more space.

Zane and Gael were quite curious to explore these towers. As they approached while the elder spoke, they realized that the construction stones were made of something that didn't exist naturally on that ascending planet. They were stones nurtured by much denser natural laws, making it impossible for them to feel much of what existed inside; they undoubtedly came from the divine world.

Now that they were inside, the surprises only increased. They literally just entered the first floor, but the entire world around them was covered in total darkness. They couldn't even see their own bodies. Everything was covered in dense darkness, and this darkness was quite familiar to both. It was the Yin laws.

That wasn't unexpected, though. After all, it was normal for evil cultivators to be close to these laws. So, Zane, who currently had total mastery over these laws, confirmed Gael's suspicions.

'On this floor, it doesn't even represent one percent of these laws. The higher up the tower, the stronger it gets. You know what's even more interesting?'

Zane then spoke to Gael, curious. 'The top is where the density is the highest because this entire tower is like an antenna. It's receiving these laws directly from a higher plane and converting them into something else. But everything is connected to the great abyss at the center of the seven black towers.'
