"You're not going back on your words, huh? Besides being a bastard whale, you have no honor whatsoever?" Langrun spoke, slowly getting up with Mira's support.
Her body seemed fine, but her bloodlines were completely subdued and suppressed within her body. Her honor and pride were destroyed in the most brutal way possible. She managed to make him take a simple step back, but so what? There wasn't a scratch on that whale, even though she had used all her power that she was so proud of. Yet, he still easily defended against her without using a weapon or attempting to block her effectively.
She looked at the little one who was struggling to help her, and old memories permeated her mind. Then, she reinforced her conviction; she would rather die than accept being mediocre and unable to help someone defenseless.
Langrun's eyes gleamed with a murderous intent. Even knowing she couldn't win, she still had one last resort. She was confident she could take him down with her.
Then, the whale spoke lightly, keeping its eyes on Langrun. " Mira, step back and come to my side."
Mira looked at her master, her body freezing; a terrible thought took over her mind: 'Why did this have to happen? Was it my fault for manipulating a little?' Mira thought, worried. Her master was clearly ready to kill.
It took two seconds. Then, the whale turned its gaze to Mira. Immediately, Mira stepped back a few paces, reluctantly. That look of his made it clear that she couldn't disobey.
"My words are golden. I promised, so take it." The whale spoke, and something black materialized in front of it, being pushed towards Langrun. Then, the sound of heavy metal slammed into the ground, causing several cracks to appear in the soil. It was a gigantic and extremely heavy black sword.
Langrun looked at the sword in astonishment. Where did this come from? She felt that it was made of the same material she had spent days mining, and at the same time, it possessed something inside that made her instincts warn of mortal danger.
"Your work wasn't wasted; I practiced a lot with all the ore. I made an armor for my pet, and this sword, which is at the same level as the armor, for me. I also have another thing, but my words were that it would be on the same level as the armor, so here it is. It's yours." He spoke slowly, and then his eyes glowed sinisterly.
"Now that everything has been fulfilled, what's stopping me from killing you and taking back what is mine?"
Langrun smiled and gripped the hilt of that sword, feeling its weight. At the same time, she would be able to use it only once.
"Master! Please, calm down. It was my fault; she must have misunderstood things." Mira pleaded, clinging to her master's arm.
"Don't be naive, brat. So what if she misunderstood something? I was a bit harsh on her during this time, but I'm sure she has felt all the benefits I gave her." He spoke, looking directly into Langrun's eyes with a bloodthirsty gaze.
"I pushed her entire body to the limit and then let it heal slowly with the residual energy from the beasts you defeated. Then, she mined without any support material, having to practice her strength, technique, and precision. In the end, she was treated very well and reaped endless benefits, improving the equivalent of years in twenty days."
"But how did she choose to repay my kindness? With malice? I didn't take it seriously when she said she wanted to kill me; she attacked me with everything, and I received her with everything. But at the last moment, she used a hidden power. Her goal wasn't a duel but to kill me without any mercy. If I weren't strong enough, would you find it fair for me to die at her hands?" He finished by asking Mira.
Mira didn't know what to say; she definitely wouldn't forgive Langrun if she even hurt her master. But... Langrun wasn't a bad person; something seemed off.
"I understand, master... but... she... please, trust me! I can handle this in a different way." Mira pleaded again.
This tale has been pilfered from Royal Road. If found on Amazon, kindly file a report.
Zane and Gael scoffed because she was still very young. They saw no alternative but to make her sleep and resolve this without her knowledge.
Mira seemed to sense the resolution in the air from her master and trembled; this was her last chance. What did she miss that she didn't know? Her mind worked frantically, recalling all her interactions with Langrum. The test in the prison... the conversation in the library... the bone saber.
Langrum couldn't help but remember the past when she gave Mira that saber: 'Here, take this. This saber was a gift from my master. It's made from pure Yin beast bones. It will help your body develop rapidly, just as it helped me when I was your age.' (Chapter 90)
Mira muttered mentally, 'When I was your age...' Soon, an imaginary scenario was created in her head. Langrum's looks and her obsession since they met... her extreme kindness towards her... and the desperate attempt to protect her when she came running. Everything seemed to fit together.
"Langrum... did you go through tough times at my age?" Mira spoke softly, looking at her.
Immediately, Langrum's bloodthirsty gaze seemed to lose focus slightly with Mira's words, a subtle confirmation. Then, Mira looked at her master. Gael didn't exactly know where Mira was going, but he also felt the change in Langrum.
Mira saw the slight confusion in her eyes and felt she could continue. She took steps toward Langrum, saying, "Do you really think I'm a furnace, and the master is using me?"
Langrum turned her gaze fully to her, penetratingly, and then Mira smiled. "My master isn't very good with people, but don't get it wrong. I can physically prove that I'm not a furnace." She spoke with confidence.
"Hm? He didn't..." Langrum murmured, and all her killing intent dissipated. Mira felt it and held her hands, turning to Zane and Gael, who were silent.
They sighed... one couldn't hit a smiling face. Langrum clearly didn't want to kill anymore, so they waved to Mira. Besides, with Mira's words, it became pretty obvious why she wanted to kill Zane. She truly thought they were using Mira as a furnace and wanted to free Mira by killing them. Could they fault someone who just wanted Mira's well-being?
Mira then quickly dragged Langrum into a house and closed the door as fast as she could.
'Damn... she didn't forget to take the sword... we worked so hard... and now we don't have a decent weapon.' Gael was disheartened, and Zane didn't know what to say.
Langrum was malicious to the extreme, but Zane and Gael just saw her as a tantrum-throwing child. If she behaved, they simply wouldn't care, but there wouldn't be a second chance.
***
Night fell, and after many hours, the two finally came out of the house. Zane, Gael, and Zanou were already ready to leave. They had to return to the sect because the next day was the mandatory monthly test.
Mira and Langrum came out, holding hands cheerfully. After taking the first steps, Mira looked at Zane and Gael. Her eyes reflected the satisfaction of having accomplished her goal; she must have sorted everything out.
The two approached, and to the surprise of Zane and Gael, Langrum took one more step towards them and spoke. "You made... good sword, good job." She then turned around, leaving without saying anything else.
Zane wasn't the least bit happy, though. 'Fuck! That's our sword!' he thought.
"I guess that was an apology and thank you. Seems like she'd rather die than be sincere... my God, why do I have to put up with another person like this? Zanou was already hard-mode. This woman, on the other hand, is master level! Are you happy to find your soulmate?" Gael spoke half irritated, half sarcastic. He now didn't know if he was the one who was strange or if the people around him were.
He then prayed for Mira to grow up and become someone who was open about her feelings. Little did he know that he would regret wishing for that.
Zane mentally cursed for quite a while as they turned around and quickly headed towards the sect.
They were curious about what the two had talked about, but Mira only told them that she had shared everything about herself with Langrum. Well, it wasn't hard to prove she was a furnace, either. After all, she just had to show she was still a virgin. Of course, she didn't reveal much about them and their clan; she just made it clear that her master took her away from the clan and took care of her. As for Langrum's story, it would be better for her to tell it herself and Mira just gave some hints.
Zane and Gael already had a very clear idea, with just these hints from Mira. Ogres, orcs, and goblins were known for having very poor natural reproduction in this world; Gael even thought that it was quite different from the stories back on Earth, which usually stated that such races were the mob-type ones, having amazing reproduction abilities. Anyway, humans were the extreme opposite in this world. So, human women were hunted and used for reproduction. This was very common in both their original universe and this one.
Langrum's mother must have had a subtle beastly bloodline unknowingly, so she was forced to reproduce with an ogre. When a child was born, the first thing a powerful bloodline race did was to check the bloodline level of the offspring. Thus, the triple bloodline from Langrum was discovered, and Langrum must have been abandoned, having to survive alone because of that other extra bloodline.
Seeing in Mira a mirror of herself made it clear that Langrum must have been used in every way to survive. Imagining Mira in a similar situation made her want to save her, regardless of her own life. Langrum even gave her precious saber to Mira and followed her into the desert with this group, all to try to set her free.
However, after everything, she realized that Goku was a true talent of Evil God level. In just a few days, he surpassed her in cultivation, and his power alone was several times more terrifying than hers. Langrum knew she wouldn't have another chance in the future and decided to risk everything. In the end, she decided she might even die as long as she could free Mira.
Obviously, it was all for nothing, as the situation she imagined was completely different from the truth.
They moved quickly through the desert, maintaining a prevailing silence. The few words exchanged within the group made it clear that Langrum had undergone a significant attitude change. She still threw harsh words and didn't bow down, but now it seemed to be just a facade.
Gael sighed, dealing with this new dynamic, but found solace in another observation. "Even in an evil sect where almost everyone is a maniac, there can still be some good people. Well... probably only one arises every generation, but..."
"Don't come with that. Are you going to say that among the righteous cultivators, there are also some demons?" Zane retorted.
"Unfortunately, in the cultivation world, there are no saints or demons. Just people... sometimes good, sometimes worse than demons. Well, we're trying to turn our brother back, so let's have some hope." Gael spoke softly.
