Chapter 99 – Pandemonium (6)

“Cough Cough!” The injured bodyguard kneeled on the ground and coughed blood heavily.

“Carlos!” The college girl shouted and ran towards the bodyguard. The other bodyguard also ran towards his partner. “What happened!?”

But the bodyguard couldn’t answer. Instead, he continued coughing great amounts of blood.

Aleen frowned and walked towards the bodyguard. He could see the bodyguard sweating and panting heavily.

The other bodyguard examined the condition of his partner and frowned deeply. “His temperature is very high, and his pulse is slowing down… He needs treatment immediately!”

“… It’s not, cough cough… It’s not necessary.” The injured bodyguard spoke between coughs.

“What are you saying, Carlos!?” The college girl shouted frantically. “You can’t continue like this! You have to receive treatment immediately!”

The bodyguard smiled wryly and shook his head. “I’m sorry miss.”

The college girl paled and took a step back. “What do you mean… Hey, Carlos! What do you mean!?”

The bodyguard coughed again and smiled briefly. He then looked to his partner and nodded encouragingly. “I leave the miss in your care, George.”

The other bodyguard closed his eyes for a few seconds and tightened his fist, but then, he stood up and grabbed the college girl. “Don’t worry, I’ll make sure that she returns safely. Also, I’ll take care of your family... You can go without worries.”

The two meters tall man smiled and nodded. Then, he looked at Aleen. “I’ll try to gain a bit of time for you. So, if it’s possible, take care of the young miss in the way.”

Aleen looked closely at the bodyguard. He had four injuries in his body, and, maybe due to the virus, his flesh had begun to rot. However, he didn’t seem to fear death, and instead, he was more worried about the wellbeing of his young miss.

Aleen could only nod seeing his determination. “I’ll try.”

“That is enough.” The bodyguard said while standing up and coughing blood. He then grabbed the axe and put it in his shoulder. “Now, go. You can’t lose more time here.”

Aleen nodded for one last time to the bodyguard and walked to the stairs. He then spoke firmly. “Let’s go.”

Aya and the stubble guy nodded and followed after him. The other bodyguard hesitated slightly, but then grabbed the college girl and followed after them.

“Hey wait! George, I order you to stop! George! Stop now!” The college girl hit the other bodyguard in the arm and screamed frantically while crying, but George didn’t obey. Instead, he held the college girl firmly and chased after the group.

After a few seconds, they were already far away, and the college girl’s voice couldn’t be heard anymore.

Besides the sound of the spiders hitting the door, the room was completely silent.

The injured bodyguard, Carlos, fell to the ground when he made sure that everybody was gone.

His body was hot, and his mind felt heavy. To be honest, he wasn’t sure about how he managed to stand up before.

Holding the axe in his hand, he sat on the ground and waited for the spiders.

He could hear the spiders screeching loudly and using their claws to attack the metallic door, trying to break it.

A few seconds later, the door finally bent a little.

Then, the door bent a bit more.

After another two minutes, the door began to show signs of being unable to endure.

Carlos forced his body to stand up and grabbed the axe with his uninjured arm. Looking towards the door, he thought about his family waiting for him at home, about his partner who accompanied him during many years, and about the young miss that he protected from when she was small.

‘Goodbye…’ He muttered softly in his mind and looked forward.

Finally, the door was unable to endure.

Then, the swarm of spiders rushed hungrily inside the room. Seeing it, Carlos raised his axe, and hacked down.

But when he killed the first spider, he was drowned by tens of spiders more.

Until the end, he never let out a cry of pain.

After the group descended the stairs, they saw a tunnel. Aleen knew that it was the escape route.

He led the group inside without hesitation, but unfortunately, the tunnel was completely dark. Aleen didn’t want to trigger anything strange, so he took out the lanterns again and gave them to the stubble guy and the college girl.

The college girl was still shocked by the bodyguard’s death, but Aleen had not time to pay attention to her. Instead, he forced the group to continue running despite the lack of light.

Aleen knew that it was dangerous, but the door wasn’t going to keep the spiders busy for long, so he simply decided to take the risk.

Fortunately, besides a pair of normal zombies, the group didn’t meet any danger.

So, after running for two minutes, they finally reached the exit.

Aleen opened the door leading to the exit and searched the surroundings for any danger before indicating to the group that everything was fine.

Once everybody was outside, Aleen closed the door again. With a bit of luck, it could keep the spiders busy for a while or make them give up chasing the group.

The place where the group exited was a kind of sewer. Aleen looked around briefly and found an exit leading outside on the roof of the sewers.

He used a bit of strength to open it, and quickly jumped outside. The noise attracted a pair of nearby zombies, but Aleen killed them before they could attract more zombies.

Once the entire group was outside, Aleen searched for the central tower. Fortunately for them, the tower was pretty near to the exit of the escape tunnel.

Aleen was about to signal the group to continue when he saw Aya looking in a certain direction.

Instinctively, he followed Aya’s gaze.

Then, he saw spiders.

For some reason, a group of spiders was in the walls of a building nearby.

The spiders looked at the group and charged towards them while screeching loudly. Aleen was about to shout at the group to run, but at that moment, he heard a roar.

“ROAAAAARRRRR!!!”

Immediately, the spiders stopped.

Before Aleen could understand what was happening, the spiders screamed frightened and tried to retreat frantically.

But then, the roar sounded again.
