Chapter 102 – Patient Zero (3)

Chapter 102 – Patient Zero (3)

“Arrrgghhh!!!” The stubble guy screamed loudly in pain. The zombie’s arm used its nails to dig into his shoulder, trying to destroy it.

With a twisted expression, he grabbed the arm with both hands and tried to pull it out, but the strength of the arm was too great and it didn’t want to let go.

It was trying to grab his heart from the shoulder and crush it to kill him, but the stubble guy struggled and pulled with all his strength while screaming in pain.

The bodyguard came to help at that moment. He grabbed the arm firmly and helped the stubble guy to pull. With his help, the zombie’s arm was pulled out and thrown away; but the stubble guy lost a huge chunk of flesh. The wound on his shoulder was so big that his bones could be seen.

Panting heavily, the bodyguard and the stubble guy looked in the direction where they threw the arm and grabbed their weapons again to prepare against its next attack; but to their surprise, it didn’t charge towards them.

Instead, the arm crawled quickly towards Aleen and Aya’s fight.

“Careful!” The bodyguard shouted. Aleen saw the arm running towards him and instinctively avoided it.

But unexpectedly, the arm did not bother with him.

It continued running towards the level-three zombie.

Aleen immediately understood its intention.

“Aya! Stop the arm!”

Aya reacted quickly and commanded Lily.

“Lily, go!”

Lily meowed in assent and pounced towards the arm. Arms, after all, are not made to run, so though it was part of a level-three creature, it could not compare with Lily when it comes to speed.

But when the zombie saw Lily stopping the arm, it roared in fury and charged towards her.

Aleen knew that he could not allow the zombie to reach the arm.

If the zombie reconnects the arm, the fight will become more hopeless than now; so, Aleen took a step forward and blocked the zombie’s path. The zombie growled in rage and use its arm to attack Aleen.

Aleen gritted its teeth and endure the blow, but he took a few steps back due to the great strength of the zombie.

With difficulty, he kept his balance and blocked the next attack of the zombie. It swung its arm crazily and tried to crush Aleen, but he put all his concentration in blocking the attacks.

A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation.

Meanwhile, Aya and Lily attacked the arm crazily. In a few seconds, the arm was cut into pieces.

The zombie roared in fury when its arm was destroyed. It opened its mouth and tried to bite Aleen, but Aleen defended with his armguard.

But then, the zombie used its remaining arm to hit Aleen once, twice, thrice...

The crazy attacks continued without stopping, as if the zombie was trying to hammer Aleen against the ground. Aleen almost let go of his sword a pair of times, but he gritted his teeth and endured the attacks by sheer will; when he finally was about to lose the grip of the sword, Aya and Lily’s help came and they distracted the zombie.

Aleen coughed a mouthful of blood and took a deep breath before charging towards the zombie again. After all, though Aya and Lily were distracting it momentarily, they could not keep it busy for long.

Though Aya was a level-two, her strength and speed were at least one level below Aleen, so she could not take the level-three zombie’s blows head-on. Her only option was to use her extraordinary instincts to attack and retreat before it had the opportunity to counterattack.

Lily, on the other hand, only attacked when she was sure that the zombie was not paying attention to her. Aleen could not help but think that Aya and Lily’s styles of battle were very alike, only that one was human, and the other was a cat.

Together, the three of them fought against the zombie without losing ground, but Aleen knew that the situation wasn’t good.

Though they were managing to cope with the level-three monster, their nerves and stamina were at their limits; besides, Aleen felt that his mana was also beginning to falter.

They had been running and fighting without stopping for almost one hour now, and before that, the only time they rested was the brief rest on the second floor of the building, so they were beginning to feel fatigued.

Fortunately, his skill was out of cooldown again.

Despite it, however, Aleen didn’t rush to use it.

The patient zero had seen his skill before, and it surely was prepared against it. So, Aleen had to wait for the right opportunity to launch the attack.

After all, he was not sure if his mana was enough to use his skill again if he fails this time.

While they were fighting, the bodyguard came to support them. The stubble guy had been injured gravely by the arm, so he was being treated by the college girl. She was using the bandages that Aleen brought from earth to stop the bleeding.

Unfortunately, the bodyguard was too weak to participate in this kind of fight. He could hardly follow the zombie’s movements, so he could only stay behind them and wait for an opportunity to intervene.

When the fight had gone for one minute, Aleen realized that the zombie’s wounds had become noticeably smaller, and its movements were becoming faster. Aleen estimated that its leg’s wound would heal completely in around two minutes more, and by then, their fate would be sealed.

But no matter how they tried, Aleen could not find an opportunity to attack.

Little by little, a feeling of desperation began to invade him. After a while, Aleen finally decided to risk it and use his skill. He knew that he would be unable to cause a mortal injury if he attacked now, but at least, he could slow its movements again for a while.

Though Aleen knew that it was just delaying the inevitable, he was out of options now.

But at that moment, something unexpected happened.

Aya, who was attacking the monster from the back, stumbled briefly and lost her balance due to the fatigue.

And the patient zero was not going to let pass that opportunity.

Aya opened her eyes wide.

In the next second, the unpleasant sound of flesh and bones being pierced filled the place.
