Chapter 82 – Zombies (3)

Chapter 82 – Zombies (3)

“AHHHHHH!”

“Let’s go!” Aleen shouted and ran towards the source of the sound.

The second group had gone pretty far while searching for an exit, but with Aleen’s speed, it took him less than twenty seconds to reach there.

However, when he came, the situation had already ended.

“Is everybody alright!?” Aleen asked with an alert expression while looking to the scene inside the room.

A zombie was lying dead on the ground with half of his head cut, while three members of the group were looking with grave expressions to the remaining member, a glasses-wearing man.

When the glasses-wearing man saw Aleen, his expression turned to one of relief, worry, and fear; and he showed his arm.

His arm had been bitten by the zombie, and a large chunk of flesh was missing.

“Will I die?” The man asked with an almost pleading expression.

Aleen wanted to say no, but the words couldn't leave his mouth.

In the end, he could only shake his head with a bitter expression.

“I don’t know, but…”

The glasses-wearing man didn’t have to hear the rest of the sentence to understand.

Immediately, tears began to flow from his eyes. At the same time, the expressions of the remaining three turned pale.

Aleen could even hear the white-collar woman mumbling “I don’t want to die, I don’t want to die” repeatedly.

At that moment, Aya and the other group finally came to the room.

They immediately noticed the depressing atmosphere and saw the blood flowing from the glasses-wearing man.

The college girl, who was being protected by the two bodyguards, asked seeing the situation.

“What happened?”

Aleen had to admit that her voice, like her short brown hair, was pretty nice; contrasting to her high-handed attitude. Were all the rich girls so prideful like that?

The one who answered was a tall and slender man, with a bit of stubble on his face; he signaled to the zombie on the ground.

“I’m not sure… We entered this room and everything was alright, but suddenly, this zombie appeared from nowhere and attacked. Fortunately, Charles–” The stubble guy pointed to the glasses-wearing man. “Reacted quickly and killed it with his axe, be the zombie bit him before he could kill it.”

Aleen sighed to the situation. Though the man reacted quickly, his life could be considered finished now. Seeing his despairing a resigned expression, Aleen thought about something and tried to console him.

“Don’t worry, you still have hope even if you are infected. When you finish the game, the administration will proportionate one healing; and I’m almost 100% sure that it can cure the virus too. You only need to survive until we reach the central tower.”

The group’s expression brightened when they heard it, and even glasses’ face glowed hopefully, however, his expression dimmed immediately after it.

“It doesn’t matter… I deserve to die after all… After all, I...”

For a moment, Aleen glimpsed an expression of regret on his face.

'So, he has a story huh...'

He simply urged the group to continue searching for an exit.

After twenty minutes, they finally got a result.

The window of a classroom on the third floor was connected to another building by a bridge-like metallic pipe.

The pipe was five meters long, and the other end was connected to the roof of a store-like building; the only problem was that the pipe was very narrow (around thirty centimeters wide), and falling from this height would mean your death; and even if you survive, the zombies below will not waste a free meal.

“Are we seriously doing it?” The man with the stubble asked with a pale face. “None of you saw terror movies before? This is practically suicide!”

“It’s this, or rushing through the sea of zombies.” Replied the college girl sarcastically. “You can try if you want.”

The man showed an irritated expression, but quickly turned to Aleen waiting for his answer.

Aleen thought for a moment, but he didn’t found a better option; besides, they already had lost much time.

“I’ll go first.” He finally said, and before the others could react, he began to walk on the pipe.

His steps were stable, almost as if he was walking on firm ground. He quickly reached to the middle of the pipe and turned to the group with a small smile.

“It’s pretty safe if you are able to keep your balance. Who is next?”

None of them answered.

The eight individuals looked to each other to see if anyone had the intention to cross.

At that moment, someone took the initiative.

Aya, carrying Lily in one arm and a short spear in the other, began to walk.

Aleen frowned seeing it. “Aya, why don’t you put the cat on the ground? It’ll be easier that way.”

Aleen could swear that after saying those words, it was the first time that he saw such a clear expression on Aya’s face.

It was anger? Despise? Disappointment?

Unfortunately, the expression disappeared too quickly from Aya’s face and Aleen couldn't decipher it; her face returned to her usual expressionless look.

“… I’ll not leave Lily behind, never.”

Aleen could only nod before the pressure of her gaze.

However, contrary to his fears, Aya’s steps were as firm as his; she walked like a proud cat, without fear or doubt.

Aleen could only sigh in admiration and accept that any level two was incredible in his own way.

After them, the remaining seven crossed the pipe. The rich brown-haired girl had to be supported all the way by her two bodyguards; and the white-collar woman trembled all the time when she was crossing, almost falling down a pair of times; but in the end, no incident occurred…

Until the last man crossed the pipe.

The glasses-wearing man walked halfway, and then stopped.

Looking towards the eight people on the other end, he shook his head and muttered in despair.

“I should have died back then.”

And before the others could react, he took a step towards the air.

“Wait for me, my little baby…”

With an ugly and distorted smile, he fell down.

*Thud!*

His body made a sickening sound and his head exploded when it hit the ground.

Only until then, the others finally reacted.

“Uhgmmmm!” The white-collar worker woman covered her mouth to suppress her desire to throw out, and even the rich girl’s face paled; Only the two bodyguards, Aya, and Aleen remained relatively calm.

Aleen never thought that the first death in this game would be like this.

Suppressing a sigh, he closed his eyes briefly and called to the others.

“Let’s go.”

The other seven finally broke out from their reverie and quickly followed after Aleen.

However, none of them could forget the despair they saw on the man's face.
