04: The same and yet new world (4)

Finding where the nearest Sorcerer Association is easier than Ky thought. Using the computer in the library to locate the most immediate Sorcerer Association, it is not a long walk for Ky to go from the library to the Sorcerer Association.

As for the building of the Sorcerer Association itself, it looks like a typical modern tall building that you can see anywhere in the city; the only difference this building has is that it is the tallest one out of them all, albeit not by much. As Ky stands in front of the building, he takes a deep breath and enters. With the automatic door open, Ky is greeted with cold air hitting his face, and his sight land upon the reception, with a woman sitting behind it, her attention on the computer, seemingly typing away.

Ky waste no time and makes his way toward the reception, and the receptionist quickly notices Ky approaching, putting on a business smile; the woman greets Ky with a slight blush on her face due to Ky's appearance.

"Hello, sir. Is there something you need with the Sorcerer Association?" The woman asks Ky, smiling in response before answering the question.

"Why yes. You see, I want to register as Sorcerer." Ky explains. The woman's eyes quickly widen before nodding in shock.

"You want to register as a Sorcerer?" The woman asks, "May I ask, have you awakened your mana vein? And if you do, how long had your mana vein been awakened?"

"My mana vein is awakened, and it only awakened today, and they recommended me to register as Sorcerer as soon as possible." Ky shrugs his shoulder nonchalantly.

"Oh! That is good! People are usually too stubborn to register as Sorcerers due to many reasons. It is good for you to act fast." The woman explained with a smile, "Now, may I have your name, please?"

"Ky Kurenai."

"Ky... Kurenai..." The woman mutters, typing, "Now, I book for your registration. It's your lucky day that few people register, so you can do it here. Would you like information about how the registration process would go?"

"Yes, please. it would be stupid of me to go in with no information." Ky response back

"Ok, well, it is a two-step process; first, you will have a written examination, then a physical examination where you will be tested for your mana." The woman explains, "Anything else you wanted to know?"

"Yes, I heard I will be assigned a mentor to teach me how to use mana. Can I ask how the process go? Will they assign me a random mentor, or must I choose one?" Ky asks his question.

"Oh! The mentor you will get is someone that the Sorcerer Association trusts and has experience teaching others and experience as a Sorcerer, so you do not have to worry about getting someone's incompetence." The woman explains

Ky nods satisfactorily, "Oh, that's good then; that is all my question."

"Well, if that is the case, then take this." The woman said before handing Ky a card, and the latter quickly accepted it, "This is a registration card; it indicates that you are here for registration. Please go to the fifth floor, where the registration will occur."

This text was taken from Royal Road. Help the author by reading the original version there.

And so Ky quickly thanked the woman before making his way toward the nearest elevator and heading toward the fifth floor of the building.

It did not take long for him to arrive at the fifth floor. There, he is greeted by the sight of a massive, spacious room, and next to the side of the room is presumingly a door leading to a space that would be the place where the written exam would take place. As Ky took in the room, someone approached him from the side, which Ky quickly noticed. A man is wearing a black business suit with average features and medium-length orange hair.

"Are you Mr Ky?" The man asks, and Ky nods back, causing the man to smile, "My name is Colt Vasin; I will be your examiner for your registration."

With that said, Colt hand Ky a single piece of paper that Ky quickly took and looked at the paper's content, 'An exam paper?' Ky thought

"This is your exam paper; please take it and go to the room to the side; you will find a seat and tools that can be used there." The man says while pointing at the door at the side of the room, "You only have thirty minutes to solve the questions, so please be careful with it."

Ky nods his head and quickly makes his way toward the room. As ky enters the room and promptly sits at one of the tables, there is a pen next to it; Ky quickly picks it up and starts answering all the questions.

'10 questions for each subject, science, math, history and geography. Now I'm glad I look at this world's history and geography before coming here.' Ky thought to himself while quickly answering all of the questions with ease. Ky promptly noticed that all of the questions here seemed to be a basic knowledge of each subject they would learn in middle school, so it didn't take a lot of effort for Ky to answer them. However, as Ky continued answering questions, he arrived at the last question, which quickly stopped Ky's answering spree.

|Find the value of X, Y and Z in X3+Y3+Z3= 42|

'Diophantine equation? Here I thought there would only be some basic question; I didn't expect them to ask something like this. . .' Ky thought, 'But should I answer it correctly?'

Considering the pros and cons, Ky knows this question is totally out of place, and there is no way they will put it randomly without thinking, so he knows there must be hidden attention behind it. After all, all of the questions before are middle school questions, but here, they a highly advanced mathematical questions that ordinary people would not know of. It is truly out of place.

'But what is the intention? Are they trying to find out how smart I am? I imagine that's the whole point of the written exam, so why is it here?' Ky thought, 'They may try to weed out the weak and dumb ones using this question, or maybe they want to find someone brilliant and can groom them to be a proper Sorcerer.'

"Well, there is no harm in answering it," Ky mutters before answering the question.

|X = -80538738812075974, Y = 80435758145817515, and Z = 12602123297335631|

As Ky answered the question, Ky quickly put the pen down and took a short breath.

In five minutes or possibly even less, Ky answered all the questions with such ease and speed that it did not take a lot of energy out of him.

'That was easier than I thought.' Ky thought, 'I mean, the last question is hard but nothing too special for me. I hope learning how to use mana and becoming a Sorcerer is more exciting and fun than this.' If this is something that they can only offer, it might get boring quickly.

Ky looks around the empty room before noticing a small box with a small hole next to him. Ky quickly put two and two together and inserted the exam paper inside that hole, and the paper seemed to be sucked in quickly. Ky only raised an eyes brow at what just had happened.

With that done, Ky stood up from his chair and went outside the room, readying to take the second test of becoming a Sorcerer. A practical exam, something that Ky hoped would be more exciting than the written exam. But unbeknown to Ky, his practical exam would be something that would be different from everyone else, whether it was good or bad. Only Ky can only find out.
