Recap of Volume 2

Bo ◐ was hardly a stranger to violence. Over his first dozen lives, he killed thousands if not millions, of sapients, monsters, and [Eldritch].

But it was always by choice. An intentional infliction of death. A judgment and execution of same.

Until he was hit where it truly hurt. Despair turn to rage and as he succumbed to it, he slaughtered untold numbers of bystanders to his births across two lives. Snapped out of it by a goddess herself to rescue and repair what had been hurt.

The deaths he inadvertently caused though? They followed him to the grave and then his next life.

Coming to terms with those lost lives was not easy for Amen ◐. A quiet, easy life was certainly something they deserved, but he found himself wallowing frequently, and took up an easy job just getting by. A well timed word from a [Priestess] and the takeover by a tyrant was finally enough to break him from his slump.

With great power comes great responsibility.

And with great power came a new legend for the [Rabbitkin] of the Free Desert Cities.

It hardly ended there. As highly evolved [Eagles], Rhys ◐ and Edea ◮ patrolled the skies of Ager. And while they did occasionally intervene in disputes on the ground, from on high they created a map of Ager to be shared with its people. A plethora of legends shared with the sapient Races of the System.

Until they were booted out. Dazed and confused, Otonia ◐ and Krateros ◮ find themselves as members of the elusive Fell, the inhabitants at the Top of the World and the sole race not part of the System. There they learned of the hidden history of the world and the nature of the gods’ magic.

Or so they thought.

When they returned to the System and the rest of Ager as [Otters], they were swiftly warned against using true magic, nominally threatened with death should they do so. But someone is playing a double game, and diving into the System and their own souls, they learn that the Fell may be more ignorant than they thought.

The narrative has been taken without permission. Report any sightings.

And then they were [Tigers], royalty of a jungle steeped in blood and violence.

Reincarnated as [Oni] in the middle of a warzone, Maxime ◐ and Theodore ◮ find that the [Gobberton] Race they had created a final solution to [Goblins] had exceeded all expectations. An industrious, advanced, well-organized society that had over thousands of generations and millennia wiped out [Goblins] from their continent and had begun the process elsewhere. And yet what was such a civilization to do? To bring the benefit of their rule to the lesser Races.

In an outstanding display of true magic, The City They Had Built became The City That They Burned.

It was unfortunately a display of true magic that caught the attention of the wrong eyes. To prevent prying, the System shoved them into non-sapient plants to hide them for a few centuries until things had settled down.

That did not go well.

It went a little better as a [Horse] and a [Raven].

Things did settle down eventually though.

As [Celestials], Machidiel ◐ and Adoel ◮ found work as rangers, patrolling the outskirts of the Celeris Empire, and fighting bandits, beasts, and tax evaders. As their team routinely takes down a group of [Eldritch], they find another group nearby. And then another. And another. Leading them out of the empire and into the deep-wilderness. Finding a massive infestation, the pair trick the team into leaving while they clean-up.

It should have been easy.

It would have been.

But the [Eldritch] had a new trip up their sleeve. Ripping open a door to their dimension, [Eldritch] flock through in unprecedented numbers and the relatively inconspicuous duo find themselves being overrun. In desperation, Machidiel ◐ manages to force a stalemate using a combination of true magic and lesser magic, only for Adoel to die prematurely.

Adoel is reincarnated to his surprise and returns to find the stalemate. He heads off to gain the power needed to end the stalemate only to die embarrassingly.

Reincarnated again, as a [Demonkin], Gur'godor ◮ actually succeeds in powering up this time, and returns to Machidiel’s vacation *cough* long vigil to end this influx of [Eldritch].

They slaughter their way towards the portal only to find it having closed of their own accord.

Then a god, Argast the Little falls to Ager, intent to kill the one to break the pantheon’s divine decree.

Cajoled by the System by the possibility of losing his soulmate forever, Machidiel lashed out in a brilliant burst of true magic, killing Argast where he stood. Overwhelmed by the power of his own attack, Machidiel barely notices as the moon Caelum light up in a display of magical violence.

Mortals and reincarnators alike are stunned at this display, until they all received the same message.

The Third War of the Gods has begun.
