Chapter 3

As Kal gained his feet he immediately dived to the side but he wasn't fast enough and he gasped as the blade sunk into his shoulder. He got to his feet while the rogue stood there, his face smug as he uncorked the small vial.

Again Kal was too slow and weak for this fight but he couldn't just leave. Something called to him. Something inside him urged him on, was it anger or fear he wasn't sure but he gritted his teeth and charged. One of the rogue's eyebrows rose slightly but he still tried to quickly gulp down the vial. With a two-handed grip, his shoulder screaming as the dagger moved in the wound Kal swung his sword for the rogue's head. The rogue easily avoided the direct hit but he must have been slower than normal in his current wounded state, instead of Kal's blade whooshing harmlessly by the rogue it hit the vial sending shards of glass into the rogue's face. With a pained scream, the rogue's arm suddenly flashed yellow and moved faster than Kal could react his fist slammed into Kal's chest not just once but twice. Kal's breath left him immediately and his vision almost blacked out as he thought he felt a couple of his ribs break. He was thrown to the ground with the two strikes but he rolled to his feet fighting through the pain expecting another attack from the rogue instead he found the man bent over groaning in pain. His face was covered in small cuts but his eyes were bleeding heavily.

"Ugh fuck… fuck, you've blinded me freak. You ain't leaving now." the rogue growled.

Kal checked his health to see it had dropped by over fifty percent with just those two injuries.

Health: 65/170

Before the rogue could recover Kal moved in again swinging his sword with wild swings. He really had no idea how to use a sword but he knew how to swing a pickaxe so he did the same here, putting all his strength behind each blow. Even mostly blinded the rogue deftly dodged most of the blows and the few that he couldn't he simply deflected them with his forearms taking only minor cuts. Kal could tell the rogue was just waiting for his sight to recover before finishing him off. He needed a way to land a hit.

Harlm puffed as he swung his hammer down towards the Redblade leader. The bastard knew something, he was sure of it. The Fox was weak but he clearly invested in endurance and vitality as he seemed to be perfectly capable of fighting for a while longer as nimbly sidestepped the downward swing and countered with a stab to Harlm’s gut. Harlm's endurance was nothing to scoff at either though the wound hurt but it wasn't life threatening. Though his health was slowly dropping a couple of points at a time likely from the accumulated wounds and all the blood he was losing but with his health at about fifty percent he could fight for a bit longer. He choked his hammer and brought it back up, scoring a solid blow on The Fox’s elbow. He heard a satisfying crunch as The Fox's elbow snapped and his knife fell from numb fingers.

Halrm spared a glance to see if Kalum had left yet but was shocked to see him with a sword in hand haphazardly swinging a sword at the rogue. Is ‘e crazy? He didn’t stand a chance once the rogue recovered and by the look of it he was barely holding on already. Harlm needed to hurry up and take down this prick so he could keep that crazy lad alive. The Fox spun grimacing but resumed his attack while Harlm took the blows he simply wasn’t fast enough to block them with his weapon but where he could you would take the wounds on his arms. As The Fox spun again into another kick Harlm let his hammer drop and caught the nimble bastard's foot as he began to pull away. “Gotchye now ye’ bastard” Harlm activated the only skill he had that was useful in a brawl.

Empowered Strike

A patient smith knows when force is required. Increases your strength by 10% at the cost of additional stamina expenditure.

His fist suddenly gave off a dense pressure as he brought it down with all his strength against The Fox’s knee and with a wet crunch the knee gave in snapping The Fox’s leg forward far more than natural. The man let out a pained scream now but Harlm didn’t stop he pulled him in by his mangled leg and slammed his head into The Fox’s face quickly silencing him. The Fox fell limply to the floor, most of his teeth now decorating the area around him. A sudden exhaustion washed over Harlm as he deactivated Empowered Strike and checked his Stamina.

Stamina: 14/580

Harlm was lucky he didn’t hit zero or he would have passed out on his feet. But he didn't have time to rest if he was going to keep the kid alive. He turned ready to charge into another fight but was taken aback, his eyes widening.

Kal ducked a slash from the rogue, stumbling back he barely kept his feet. It wasn’t going well, he just couldn't do any real damage even with the rogue half blind. His weakness gnawed at him. If he had a class, fighting a half-blind guy would be simple. It pissed him off why would he be the only one like this. Stuck with the strength of a child. Kal’s vision started tunneling; the only thing visible to his eyes was the rogue. Another counter from the rogue came towards his chest but this time Kal saw it coming and just barely got his sword between him and the strike. Well, he tried to block but he didn’t angle the blade correctly and the rogue punched the edge of the blade directly. The rogue's hand was parted almost to the wrist but still managed to push the blade back towards Kal and into his shoulder dislodging the knife. Kal groaned as more of his breath left him and he tumbled to the ground, his health dropping by another thirty points. “You little fuck…” The rogue roared, his hand bleeding heavily. But despite his wounded hand the rogue bent down and retrieved one of his knives.

Once an ascended has invested enough points into endurance their bodies are less reliant on their inner workings to function, the rogue seemed to have invested enough to still use his hand. Kal tried to get his feet but his wounded shoulder throbbed radiating through his body, almost making him blackout from the pain. He pushed himself away from the rogue with his legs but the rogue was already on top of him stabbing down towards Kal's chest. Kal swung weakly hitting the rogue's twisted arm, getting a pained yell and another second before the knife came down for his efforts. Time seemed to slow and his vision faded as the knife plummeted towards him.

Kal probably should have been panicked and scared right now but it was not fear that he felt. It was anger, no not anger. Hatred. He hated that he would meet such a fate despite him asking for it by coming here. He hated how the gods could allow him to exist like this. But most of all he hated this man. This criminal stood above him only because he had a class. A sudden realization entered Kal's mind. I want to kill this man… A heat blossomed in Kal's chest and quickly spread through the rest of his body. He could feel his wounds constrict restricting the bleeding, his limbs suddenly brimming with strength, and as the heat reached his eyes his vision suddenly cleared.

Despite his vision clearing his mind faded and everything seemed to blur together he could feel himself scowl then suddenly all that he could comprehend was the bloodied face of the rogue.

Harlm watched the knife come down but he couldn't get there in time. He flinched when the arm stopped and his eyes widened when realized the boy caught the rogue's hand… What? There was no way Kal could stop the rogue's arm but he did. Harlm expected to see the fear on Kal's face but what he saw sent a chill down his spine. Kal was scowling and his eyes burned with malice. Then the rogue screamed and kept screaming, his wrist crushed beneath Kal's hand and the knife fell only to be caught by the hand of Kal's wounded shoulder, which he seemed to completely ignore. The knife now in Kal's hand was rapidly piercing the rogue's chest with seemingly no resistance. The rogue tried to get away and Kal let him but before bringing the knife down on the rogue's now shattered wrist, sending the hand down to the bloody floor.

The rogue fell to the floor now blubbering as Kal stood. His gaze swept the room. Harlm stepped back as that gaze landed on him. Pure malice radiated from Kal, Harlm wanted to take another step back even though doubted Kal could hurt him but an instinctual fear took over for a moment around the room he could hear some of the unconscious thugs grow. What is going on how was Kal doing this? Was it some kind of fear skill? No, it couldn't be he hasn't ascended. The feeling of malice vanished as Kal turned back to the rogue who had gotten to his knees and was holding onto the stump at his wrist. With no flare, Kal stepped forward and grabbed the rogue by the hair and slammed the knife deep into the man's temple. The rogue slumped down to the floor. Dead, the knife still lodged in his skull. Harlm's stomach twisted at the savagery of the execution, he knew the rogue would have killed Kal given the chance but this, this was something else.

"Kal, gods howd'ya overpower 'im ?" Harlm grunts still recovering his stamina.

Kal didn't respond as he began to shake. Harlm got closer thinking Kal was probably in shock. It's not every day you kill a man, especially like that. Harlm took Kal by the shoulders and turned him away from the body. Kal was simply staring blankly into the middle distance. "It's alright lad you did go..". Kal went limp and would have fallen to the ground if Harlm wasn't holding him. Worried, Harlm looked him over. But the lad barely seemed injured, a few shallow cuts but nothing worrisome. He'll be fine long enough to question our other little friend. Harlm carried Kal over to a clean patch of floor and got to work.

Kal came back to himself for a moment and saw the mutilated head of the rogue still in his hands, he dropped the man shocked. What happened… wait I got a notification! Kal quickly viewed his status and jumped straight to the notifications.
