Monocle of Post-Scrying [Rare]
This monocle can be used to view a set number of locations that have been inscribed into it. The images and locations seen through this monocle appear as they were at the time of inscription.
Slots Used: 2/5
Warning: Due to the presence of a potent anti-scrying effect you cannot inscribe a new location until you have left the anti-scrying effect’s source.
Traveling across the terrain to find a place to stop was almost too easy. The entire area had grown quiet since so many demons had gathered at the tower and likely the three different anchors. Kal cooked and cleansed some more hydra for the others to eat while he tried using the Monocle of Scrying.
After reading the item's description he had been worried if it would work at all. To Spit in God’s Eyes effect even worked on scrying abilities that weren’t directly targeting him. That sounded good but he wondered what the range of it was. Was it possible he could be found purely by searching for places that couldn’t be scryed?
He guessed it depended on the radius. If the radius covered half the world it would really matter but if it was only a few hundred feet the gods, demons, or whatever else could find him easily enough. The fact they hadn’t meant it must have a decent range at least.
Unsure exactly how to use the monocle Kal just raised it to his eye and looked through. Immediately a notification appeared.
Select a location to view:
1: Anchor 1,
2: Anchor 2,
3: Empty,
4: Empty,
5: Empty
Kal shrugged and went with the first one and blinked as his right eye suddenly got a clear view of a collapsed structure that looked like it had once stood atop a large cliff but had somehow collapsed and fallen to the rocky ground below. Inside the twisted metal of the structure was a twisting purple light that Kal immediately recognized as space mana.
He couldn’t see any sign of demons but going by the item’s description they simply might not have been there at the time the monocle was inscribed. Inspecting the space mana more closely Kal could see that it wasn’t a tear, at least not yet. He couldn’t see any detail besides that though, the monocle's view wasn’t ideal. Shrugging Kal lowered the monocle and put it away but as he did he received a notification.

“Shit…Well, that explains why my Planar Compass has gone off at least,” Kal said.
Nyx turned away from the food that she apparently liked more than she was letting on, “What? What is it?”
Kal shook his head and showed her the quest. Her eyes widened, “Gods… We have to do something- I just got the quest as well.”
Kal nodded, “Get ready, we are leaving now. ”
After using the monocle to view the first anchor Kal could see a dull white light in the distance, even through the wall of the cave. It didn’t have any kind of way to measure the distance but Kal figured it was the monocle’s method of directing him to the location.
Nyx and Ander were ready almost immediately. Kal activated Cloak of the Wrathful Spectre on each of them and they left heading towards the light. This time they didn’t waste time and let Ander walk. Kal carried the boy on his back and they ran across the terrain as fast as possible.
Kal tried not to seeth as they ran but he couldn’t help but feel the weight of yet another timer resting on his shoulders.
Now that Nyx had recovered she flowed across the landscape, actually outrunning Kal easily. Kal was impressed, she was obviously agility-focused but Kal knew that agility was one of the most important attributes. Without Wrath Incarnate he felt sluggish and weak.
As they ran Kal decided to begin the cleaning up of his broken skill. He didn’t dare actually try to soul forge something as potent as Wrath Incarnate while on the move but he could at least save time for later. If he ever got any bloody time…
Kal also decided to finally spend his twenty-three free points and split them between agility and vitality.

The extra agility didn’t do much to allow him to keep up but every little bit helped. He had been tempted to put all of the points into endurance just so he could see how it affected his wrath limit or at least this control once he went over it but that wasn’t something he was going to test anytime soon. Not with Nyx and Ander around at least.
Nyx was much quieter over the message stone this time, only calling out sightings of demons as they went. That hurt even more than Kal expected. He had never been much of a chatter but talking with people for a change was certainly better than being alone, despite the extra care he was forced to take with them around.
After nearly three hours of running at a near sprint, they could finally see the cliff he had seen in the monocle. However, it was no longer empty of demons. Several squads of shadow fiends patrolled around the fallen structure. There were far fewer demons than the legions back at the tower but still far too many for Kal’s liking.
Kal and the others stood at the edge of a large plain, spotted with shards of dark metal in place of grass with the cliff and the fallen structure on the opposite side. Kal deactivated Cloak of the Wrathful Spectre while they remained out of sight to keep his wrath at a reasonable level.
“No chance we will be sneaking up on them across that,” Nyx remarked.
Kal grunted, “Not that I’m any good at that anyway. We don’t need to kill them all, just destroy the anchor. Any ideas?”
“Their defenses are pretty mediocre. The patrols seem mainly for show than anything but I guess it's not like they're expecting anyone to actually try and break the anchors, at least not from their own realm,” Nyx said as she scanned the tower, her blue eyes focused on each patrol.
“Is that it? The strange pillar thing?” Nyx said, gesturing toward the tower.
Kal tried to see what she was looking at but the structure itself was just outside of his range. They had to be close to a mile away, “Not sure. I can see the space mana coming from a hole in the building but my perception isn’t high enough to see any detail.”
Nyx nodded, “I have an idea,” then she drew her bow.
The moment Kal saw her bow in her hand he got a flashback to the prophet’s head exploding as one of Nyx’s arrows pierced his skull.
“You think you can hit it from here?” Kal asked, more intrigued than worried about the outcome. He really wanted to see a few of her skills in action.
Nyx smiled, “Oh, I can hit it. That’s the easy part. It's just whether or not it actually breaks the thing. I don’t want to bring the demons down on our heads for nothing.”
Kal shrugged, “If we have to run I’d rather be this far away already than sneak into the camp and break it. Give it a shot.”
“Yeah! Give it a shot!” Ander urged.
Nyx shook her head, “Fine but please be ready to disguise again as soon as I fire.”
Kal nodded and moved back a bit to stand with Ander while she drew an arrow, set it, and brought it to her cheek. At first, all seemed normal but as seconds passed Kal could feel a pressure building in the air. Kal activated Eyes of The Slayer and saw that she had activated a skill.
Channels moving from her core up her right hand pulsed with green light before infusing both her bow’s string and the arrow with physical energy. He couldn’t see much but he could tell she was using a lot of stamina to activate the skill.
Right when Kal thought she was done a second skill activated and pale white light passed from her eyes and core to the arrow that had begun to glow slightly even to the naked eye. Lastly, Nyx took a slow even breath and as she breathed in her entire body pulsed with the green light of her physical energy as a third and final skill activated.
The air hummed with all the power she had poured into the arrow to the point that Kal thought the demons might notice them even from the anchor but he didn’t care he wanted to see this.
Nyx released and the arrow tore through the sky like a thunderbolt. Kal was buffeted by a wall of air as Nyx’s bow exploded into a barrage of splinters but he turned to watch the target. A second later Kal saw a flash of light from the structure as the arrow struck home and instant a second explosion tore through the sky.
Excited to see if it had worked Kal opened the quest description to see if it was still in place.
Abyssal anchors established: 2
“Damn. Looks like it didn’t work-”
Suddenly the ground lurched and Kal would have fallen if it wasn’t for his Nimble Boots of the Blood Stalker. Nyx and Ander weren’t so lucky and tumbled to the ground as the sky lit up with a fiery inferno of black, purple, and mana.
The ground continued to quake for several seconds as the sky continued to burn but Kal’s eyes remained focused on the structure, or at least where it had been. As the flames faded and the ground became still Kal grinned as he saw what was left of the abyssal anchor.
There was nothing left. All that remained was a black crater and an even more shattered cliff face.
Ander looked fine as he scrambled to his feet with a huge grin on his face. So he turned to Nyx to find her pale and gasping for breath but trying to stand. Kal reached down and helped her up, “Nice shot.”
Nyx looked past him to the crater and smiled, “I knew it would hit but I wasn’t expecting that, “ she sighed, “I didn’t get any experience for the kills.”
“It must be holding some serious mana to explode like that. I’m glad we went with your plan,” Kal chuckled. He opened his newest notification before activating Cloak of The Wrathful Spectre.

Kal opened his dimensional storage and got Nyx a replacement bow but as he handed it to her a burning pain lanced through his chest, Cloak of the Wrathful Spectre flickered around Nyx and Ander before finally dying.
“Kalum!” Ander cried out but Kal didn’t hear him as he fell to the ground.
