Chapter 106-Bubbling

Garghound, kuroxet, and felflame imps died as his crimson flames fell upon them and his claws maimed and dismembered. The sheer number of foes easily allowed him to maintain Wrath Incarnate alongside Wrathful Regeneration as he carved a bloody line through their ranks.

The remaining two royal guards came for him, their feeble killing intents trying to rival the wrath of his soul. Fire washed over him as dozens of imps annihilated themselves against his chest and face only succeeding in singeing his cloak.

He was faster than the royal guards and now he was even further beyond their level of strength and endurance. One tried to flank but a pivot and shattered spin put it down long enough for him to tear the innards from the second and follow up with a lobotomizing strike.

Over a dozen demons died as he returned to the regeneration royal guard, blood soaked every inch of the slayer's skin and clothes as he slammed a foot down on the barely repaired spine shattering both ribs and vertebrae before he grasped the demon's huge head and pulled.

The demons foolish enough to fight against their fear and attack him while he was busy with the royal guard clawed and chewed at his back. Only the strongest of the kuroxet slaughters could injure him to the point that his regeneration was forced to actively heal it.

One final twist and the final royal guard’s head came free with a torrent of sprayed blood and a massive increase in wrath as multiple mutilation bonuses were applied. All of it was dumped into his second core.

The morale of the remaining demons morale shattered like glass as the strongest that remained was destroyed so easily that the slayer didn’t slow his slaughter at all and even as the blood continued to fall to the ground he had already moved to the closest groups of slaughterers, tearing them apart with casual ease.

His slaughter only accelerated as the largest obstacles had fallen as they should. The number of demons that still lived kept his wrath high and constantly overflowing into his second core.

Wrath provided: 153420/256760

As the amount of wrath provided continued to climb he started to receive constant warning notifications but there were more enemies to kill so he ignored it.

The slaughter continued and as the horde’s numbers began to diminish the slayer simply began to activate Wrath Incarnate in short bursts to maximize the efficiency of each strike.

The horde was broken and those that remained had begun to flee and he was forced to pursue those that were worth the effort. As the slayer drew his claws of malice from the spine of a noble while its innards bubbled under the effects of Flames of Wrath his mana sight picked up a sudden increase of the green flame mana.

He hadn’t noticed the change in temperature due to his superior self separation from his body and the flame resistance he possessed but it was clear the dome had gotten significantly hotter. Some of the nearby kuroxet corpses had begun to spontaneously combust as he scanned the area.

Overhead the felflame mana was even more concentrated and was only growing more dense as he watched. Soon a sphere had formed but the slayer didn’t back away, his flame resistance had proven capable before- The sphere compressed into a tiny white speck and before he could react at all the sphere detonated searing his eyes before he was slammed into the ground by a furious burning heat.

His vision blurred and then died as he felt his eyes sizzle out of his skull. The slayer's entire body screamed in alarm as his skin began to bubble and char beneath the seemingly endless wave of white-green fire despite his flame resistance. He felt no pain but he rolled onto his stomach and covered the back of his neck to protect his face, neck, and eye sockets as his regeneration tried to repair the onslaught of damage.

The stone all around had already liquified and started running away from him as only the stone directly beneath him avoided the direct heat from the sphere above. Suddenly the heat and the light were gone not that the slayer could see it but the feedback from his charred body was all the information he needed.

The attack had only lasted a few seconds but it had nearly killed him. Inconvenient.

The slayer climbed to his feet, skin and muscle popping and tearing all over his body. He was blind the sickening sound of his eyes bubbling down his cheeks would have disturbed his lesser self but to the slayer, it was an annoying inefficiency. He hadn’t regenerated a missing organ before but he could already tell his regeneration was trying to repair his missing eyes.

His cloak was badly damaged, barely still attached to his neck. His pants were also scraps now but still clung to him, barely.

Most of the skin had been burned from his hands and forearms so he to the opportunity to reactivate Edge of Malice on his fingerbones before leaping away from the epicenter of the blast.

Being blind was an inconvenient disability to have to work around compared to the loss of limbs but his body’s reflexes were now sharp enough to react fast enough to land safely. But he knew immediately that the terrain had changed significantly from that single attack.

A deep voice through the sound of lava flowing around him caught his attention as he stood up from his landing position.

“Intriguing a mortal that can survive the power of Fel Annihilation? It appears my minions were not as foolish as I first thought.”

The slayer’s vision hadn’t fully recovered but he could make out the silhouette of a large shape standing no more than thirty feet away. It glowed with white-green light and just looking at it was slowing down the repair of his still fragile eyes. Despite his damaged eyes, the figure in front of him shined red as its killing intent made itself known to his killing sight.

“No words mortal? Are you truly the beast they have claimed? I see no evidence of that besides a high vitality?” The demon said, not attacking immediately.

What did the demon gain from delaying its attack while he regenerated? The original attack was clearly some kind of trap that he likely wouldn’t have escaped even if he had retreated the moment he noticed it. So why not use his blindness to its advantage?

“Why do you insist on speaking when you should be preparing to die?” His still burnt mouth split as he spoke, splattering blood on the still red-hot stone beneath his feet and showing off his skill-conjured fangs. He tried to activate Slayer’s Intent but his blurred vision seemed to impair his ability to target the demon.

“Hah! It does speak.-” The demon paused for a moment before its head moved slightly while its killing intent drastically increased.

“Another trap,” He didn’t wait for the demon’s next response, throwing his still recovering body forward across the thirty feet with a burst of Wrath Incarnate. He made no sound at the sudden movement and went for the demon's throat.

But before he could land the strike a flash of red killing intent slammed into him from the side, not hard enough to do serious damage but more than enough to throw him off balance. He covered fast but was immediately attacked again as the second blur came at him again. With another burst of Wrath Incarnate, he leaped to the side, slipping slightly as he landed in more molten rock and scanned his new enemies.

His eyes continued to regenerate and the blurred figures began to clear.

He only had an instant before the next assault came but it was long enough to use Identify and allow his unhindered mind to take in the surroundings.

[Kuroxet Bonedrinker | Abyssal Spawn 80]

[Felflame Scion | Abyssal Spawn 82]

The center of the dome was unrecognizable, where there once was a small flat plain dotted by the large columns created at the start of the wave was a caldera still covered in molten rock. Much of the molten rock had flown away down passages like the ones beneath the butcher’s territory, they covered the walls of the caldera like wasp nest.

The slayer now stood atop a still-cooling patch of lava with the scion standing in the caldera’s center while the bonedrinker divided them on its way to attack him.

The scion stood in black plate armor wreathed in white-green flames and its very human face smiled green flames leaking from its mouth and eyes as it held its hand forward as intensely bright white-green flames gathered and condensed in its palm.

Slayer dodged the bonedrinker’s fast but predictable strike. As the demon landed it tumbled behind him so that he was between the two of them and slashed for the tendons behind his ankles. He avoided it but took a follow-up slash across one arm as he jumped the first horizontal sweep. Then the true attack came as he was still returning to the ground from his jump the scion chanted in a guttural language, “K’hal, Zeeschal.”

The slayer saw the attack just in time and through his arm across his eyes as the newly condensed ball of Fel Annihilation detonated through him backward into a roll as more of his skin peeled away.

The bonedrinker had managed to shield itself with the slayer’s body as the skill went off by leaping onto his back before burying its fangs into his neck and injecting a large amount of foreign corrosive mana into his body. The bonedrinker didn’t manage to land on solid ground and still took damage as it was forced to leap again to get clear of the molten rock.
