Kal’s focus wavered as he read the notification and a thread took off his already useless arm at the elbow he gasped in pain but redoubled his efforts and stayed on track.
“Connnnnnnsssususmummmmme ~`~~~*&~8`~`8~&` Neeeewwww spiiiirit ~~~~~~~”
Kal only heard the sound of ear piercing screeches and the sound of distant grinding flesh and bone but somehow he understood it.
The soul mana overhead seemed to speed up and began to appear more like shooting stars. Kal slowly turned his once again wretched body far enough to both defend from the threads still crashing against him and look in the direction of where he heard the Void Entity.
[~@!`~`~@! | Void Entity ?????]
It had come…
As Kal’s eyes fell upon the thing that was moving through the void at the edge of his sight his stomach rebelled and his eyes rolled into the back of his head. Kal could barely comprehend what had just seen. It spanned the entire width of the void he could see and only seemed to grow large as it approached. He almost fell backward off the remaining piece of platform but he recovered in time to barely save himself and sunder the next three threads.
“Fuck! What’s your plan now idiot?!” Kal roared internally. He had hoped the trial’s timer was how long it would take for the entity to get to him. Apparently he was wrong,”Fuck!”
Kal bent every bit of his remaining will to finding a solution. But nothing came. He couldn’t tear open a portal to escape. He couldn’t fight the thing that was coming for him and he blood well couldn’t fight both the void entity and the fucking storm…
He scanned the trial again looking for anything that could help him.

“Damn it!” Kal roared into the chaos surging around him. There was no update or new part to the trial. He still needed to Withstand the Winds of Desolation but there was no way he could make it through the storm if that thing was coming for him.
Kal turned his head and the very edge of the thing came into view. It was even closer, its writhing mass turning the endless black to sickly gray and twisting Kal’s insides. Kal dragged his gaze away before it disabled him and continued scraping his brain for anything he could do. Anything.
His back started to burn first, then it began to writhe. Something was happening to him and every moment that passed he felt weaker. His health wasn’t dropping but his vision dulled slightly and his head drooped forward as he found it hard to keep himself sitting.
“Anomolyyyyyyyyyyy…… Beeee Oooone……”
Kal flinched the thing’s disturbing voice as its screeching and grinding made his mind shake and the mental load on double allowing more threads to get through. Then a notification blinked before his eyes and almost completely forgot about deflecting the threads.
Planar Compass has detected the presence of an unstable gate at your location.
Kal’s eye shot open and then the realization hit him. He had missed something. He scanned through the trial’s description again. He grinned as he saw his mistake. It was the warning about staying on the platform. It was gone.
A tapestry of destruction was parted by his will and in the instant stillness between assaults Kal withdrew the Planar Compass for just long enough to see the mana leaking through the gate. He frowned when he saw that it was abyssal but it wasn’t like he had a choice right now. He returned the Planar Compass and scanned the void without looking at the thing coming towards him.
It was only when he looked down that he noticed what he was looking for. The slightest trick of abyssal mana floated up toward him but before it could reach him the threads of destruction mana had utterly destroyed it.
Kal shook his head at what he was about to do but before he began his “plan” he turned to see the very edge of the thing after him and activated Slayer’s Intent for the first time in a long, long time.

Kal almost roared as his wrath rose at a ridiculous speed but his wisdom won out and he deactivated the skill. It had almost made him want to try and fight the thing but he wasn’t that stupid. Kal reached into his body and found the Longevity Cycle and deactivated it. Instantly his body hardened as his vital and physical energy rushed throughout his body.

His strength and speed returned despite his fatigue Kal gripped the small piece of platform beneath him and threw himself towards the distant abyssal mana. Wrathful Regeneration roared to life and his body began to heal the old damage of the threads while he refocused his mind on dealing with the Winds of Desolation.
The strange atmosphere of the void felt strange as he plummeted through it like a blinding bolt of pearlescent lighting as the waves and threads crashed against his will. The void entity continued its approach making his skin literally crawl and the drop in will weakened his deflections but both his practiced efficiency and Wrathful Regeneration made up for it.
“NOOOOOOO…..Beeeee Oooooonnnnnneeee”
The void raced by him and threads of destruction detonated all around him in between more and more tapestries. His skin crawled even further as the thing approached and soon no matter where he looked writhing gray was visible.
His vision twisted and darkened. His stomach churned as he suddenly could see himself from hundreds, no, thousands of different locations. The void entity's disorientating vision dominated his own for a moment and several more threads of destruction got past his guard. His left was completely torn free as well as his right leg above the knee and a fist sized hole tore through his abdomen.
Kal gasped as his body was slowly losing the fight against both enemies but then he saw it. Below him was a tiny ripple in the void, something he would have had no chance at spotting without his Eyes of the Slayer and mana sight.
There was only one problem. There was also no chance he could fit and it wasn’t like he had time to figure out how to widen it. So Kal did the first thing he could think of as the ripple rose up to meet him.
His will gathered around him as another hole pierced his chest and disabled his right arm. A pearlescent edge appeared just inches if front of him as his will condensed but he could feel it wouldn’t be enough. One last savage idea came to him and his eyes flared red, white, and gold as his wrath surged through his body, barely guided to his blade of will.
The pearlescent ignited into a burned spear of crimson flame and the will glowed with barely contained power. The darkness around him was completely expelled by the crimson light of his wrath infused will and when he reached the ripple he focused all of the combined strength into barely visible threads.
The ripple exploded into a torrent of abyssal mana, opening wide around him. His skin burned at its touch but as he entered the ripple-turned-tear Kal laughed. Behind him the grinding of the void entity was muted by the space now growing between them but its rage was clear.
Soon the abyssal mana around him became less concentrated and Kal found himself falling through the featureless gray-white space he was used to seeing with these strange tears but his attention had been dragged elsewhere. As he fell his soul flared but not in its usual slaughter happy way and as Kal looked at it-
*Thump* *Thump*
*Thump* *Thump*
*Thump*
*Thump*
Kal fell into the crimson fires of his soul but soon the inferno turned trees, strange trees. They were so densely packed together that he could barely see through them and where he could dense vines, ferns and smaller trees made up of it.
*Thump*
“What is going on?”
In the distance a crimson light flashed into his awareness and almost by reflex he began to move towards it. His experience with Fyborh’s sight seemed to be helping here. Wherever here is…
The trees parted to reveal strange ruins of mostly black stone which reminded Kal of the bunkers back in Fallen Kartha. Between the ruins were three large tents. Kal’s Eyes of the Slayer allowed him to see through the fabric of the tents and the skill channels of the people within.
Two of the tents were occupied, the first’s channels were almost all a light blue color and were nearly all focused on either the person’s right arm or their eyes. The second’s were a similar shade of blue but he could also see several other colors he recognized as simple attributes threads.
See that the third tent was empty Kal scanned the area and spotted a man with skill channels far different than the other two’s. They were fiery red with streaks of yellow and orange throughout but Kal quickly forgot about them as he saw the man’s face.
It was Leo. He was sitting in a small wooden chair and looking out into the jungle, occasionally his gaze stopped and focused on something before moving on back to his watch.
What was going on? How was he seeing all this?
The red light flashed in his peripheral vision again and his gaze snapped to the tent with the multi-colored channels, “Dalen?”
Kal moved his perception through the fabric of the tent and he couldn’t help but grin when he found Dalen sleeping.
[Dalen Kreet | Alchemist of the Wrathful 49 | Human]
One leg was hanging out of the bedroll and his hand was clenched around a potion belt beside his bed. No, not a potion belt. Inside it were several metal spheres. Kal smiled at seeing that Dalen managed to get an alchemist class but he was surprised to see it mention wrath.
He was a bit ashamed that he hadn’t identified Dalen on Fyborh’s Path but to be fair he was pretty busy.
Kal tried to focus on the red light that had drawn him here but the closer he looked the less distinct it seemed to be. Before he could try another tactic heard something outside. Kal pulled his perception back outside to find Leo staggering backward, a large black arrow piercing his chest through his plate mail and out the back.
Leo recovered but his move seemed lethargic as he draw his sword and his orange flames burst to life around it.
Then from all around the clearing Kal’s Eyes of the Slayer flared and dozens of sets of skill channels stepped out from the dense jungle. But their bodies were invisible, the only thing he could see was the resources running through their channels as they began to be activated.
It was an ambush. Anger stirred in Kal’s chest but he could do nothing but watch…
No. If Dalen had somehow spoken to him in The Place Between Kal could do it here.
“Dalen! You are under attack!”
