Day 8
Kerri-liana and James arrived at the bug infested fields. This was a big problem, Kerri didn’t know bugs, but even she could tell this was a problem. Every leaf had bugs.
James viewed the bugs then the crops. He started taking notes. On earth if you weren’t sure, you could look it up. But here there were no such luxuries. So, he needed to record his finding, do some tests and record the results.
Kerri acted as translator all day. She got nothing she wanted done. Hanging around James was nice and all, but repeating everything he said all day wasn’t nice. She decided after eating that she was going to make this work for her. While here, in between she would ask about the sugs. She started talking notes of her own. She wanted to go home. She knew if they could get here, they could get home. She just needed to know how?

Don’t stress assess
That’s what her grandfather used to say.
When it came to sleeping arrangements, the local farmer asked them to stay with him. He was a nice friendly man whose life was in those fields.
James and Kerri accepted his offer of accommodation and they spent the night with the farmer and his family.
Farmer Tom Brown was a man of the earth. His wife Misty was the picture most had of a farmer’s wife. She had many children with the great ability to do lots of work in a day. She cooked, baked, cleaned, washed washing, hang it, packed it away set the table, made cheese, baked bread and muffins and all the children were clean before sitting at the table.
Farmer Tom lit the candles, said a prayer. Then food was served. Even though it looked like the same brown lumpy soup they had seen in other places, it tasted good. Mrs Brown could cook. After dinner her five children all did their part. No one complained or refused to do their choirs. James and Kerri were amazed. Adam their oldest son even helped with putting the youngest to bed.
Adam was sixteen, Cliff was fourteen. Dawn their oldest daughter was twelve. Lentil was nine, he was playful and had fair hair unlike the rest of his family which all had dark hair and Thistles the baby was seven.
The farmhouse was smaller than on earth. It had three bedrooms a kitchen, a dining room, a scullery, and an outside room for washing and a long drop toilet.
Kerri wasn’t impressed, she liked to study such things but actually using one… she missed home.
