Chapter 5

After what one could describe as an interrogation off to the side but felt more like a questionnaire of what I knew already, the areas I lack knowledge in, what happened right before I got in line, and etc. The [guard] who was working the ledger and may be the one in charge directed one of the others to guide me to my future accommodations. Along the way, the [guard] who I assume to be a [dwarf] women with jade hair poking out of her helmet, pointed out many places of important like a tour guide. Nice places like multiple small markets, the [adventurers'] guild, and one of the many bathhouses here, but also less nice places like where the closest public latrines are or where to dump your trash.

Our journey traveled us from larger, busy streets to less crowed, smaller roads towards what I'm going to call the eastern side of the city as we turned right from the gate we entered. Despite having less room and being away from the main streets, there was a significant amount of people out and about tipping me off to the assumption we may be near another gate, probably more popular that the one I went through. As we weaved through the crowds, I try my best to remain right behind her while clutching my satchel, afraid that any [thieves] would try to take my stuff. I'm probably not the most desirable mark as my clothing is quite basic quality and simple in design signaling I don't have much, plus they highly likely have [skills] to discern what valuables I have which are none.

This short excursion came to the end as the [guard] stopped right in front of a building. This multifloored establishment like many others I seen so far was made of wood and stone. I would not want to call it medieval style but it is the closest thing to describe it's appearance with some inspirations from a variety of cultures on Earth. There were windows facing the street, not like the huge single panel ones you see in front of stores from home but smaller and looked like the windows and very old houses with rough, low quality, green glass. Above the door hanged a sign of a chubby [horned rabbit] sitting on a plate with some vegetables with the words "The Fatty Rabbit Tavern".

Without taking a second to stop and take a look, she opened the door and held it for me to walk in. The place was somewhat dark, mostly being lit by the sunlight coming from the windows but the flickering light from some lit candles and the warm light from the small fire off to the side in the fireplace. Most of the place was empty, with a few groups of people eating lunch in the booths on the side and one dude still passed out drunk at this hour on one of the middle tables. There was a muscular man in an apron behind the bar wiping it down and he looked up when I came in.

A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.

The [guard] came immediately after me and told the man, "Tell [Madam] Rose we have a new guest for her."

Then man nodded and headed towards the stairs I'm the back. While waiting, I decided to get a better look of the tavern and noticed all the decorations on the wall from skulls and bones of great beasts but also hides and taxidermy heads, one looks like what I assume is a [dire wolf] and another green [drake]. Along with the animal remains were a large variety of weapons and gear, many axes, swords, and even clubs and staffs. There was also a few what I believe are treasure like some glinting jewels and magic looking items.

Then the sound of heavy footsteps interrupted me and when I looked over I saw a large women, even taller and bulkier than the [bartender] with muscle building from her dress and scars covering her arms and one on her face. She was quite scary but her long, light pink hair and crows feet on her eyes gave her a more gentler appearance.

"So you must be the [otherworlder] then?" She spoke first.

"Mark, um nice to meet you." I said as I brought out my hand to greet her.

She gripped my hand in a casual manner but her grip strength was immense, "Ow," she shaked it briefly and continued speaking.

"Rose, you can call me [Madam] or Miss but never just Rose." She says before slowly walking over grab a rag and wipe a smudge off a nearby table.

"As a leader of this community, I find it is my job to not just help and protect its members whenever they are in need but also includes assisting in projects like this. While I'm not the only one that are taking in your kind but once an [otherworlder] myself, I understand what it is like to find yourself in another strange new place." She turns around dramatically and stared straight into my eyes, "But don't take my kindness for weakness."

'Gulp' "ok" I responded.

"I'm not your mother and nor are you're a child, you will respect this place and me. Nor living here is free, you will contribute to pay for your space. As you see if you look around, we are not busy during the day. The times when most of the customers come by would be late evening and night to blow off steam after work. This is when you are expected to be here to clean the floor, bus the tables, and wash the dishes. Working during the day is appreciated but not needed. Slacking off and missing work will result in you being kicked onto the street. Do you got all of this clear?"

"Uh, Yes Ma'am! Um, I mean Yes [Madam]!" I say as putting my hand up to salute.

"Good, now you'll see your room later, there is still one more stop for you to go to."
