Chapter 10

There is a lot to go through. But where should I start? What about the last two, they came out of nowhere. Alexa, do you have any idea?

{For the last notification, you earned that point in [Adaptability] as you shown how you were able to adjust and acclimate to an entirely different world than you knew to the point you like many of the people native here, gained a [class]. While the surprise reward was due to the [System] judging that since you were able to expand the number of potential [classes] and introduce something new to this world from your own, you must have been much more [wise] and knowledgeable than originally believed.}

"Oh, well thanks for the compliment, [System]." I said to the air at nothing particular not knowing how to properly address it. The last thing she said did gave me a little sense of pride.

"So why did I got two starter [skills] this time?"

{Starter [skills] are given for either two reasons, one if the user was deemed to have already unlocked the [skill], the same way the first [stat] is decided or two that the [class] is deemed unusable without the [skills] that are fundamentally tied to said [class].}

"Well I get [Hydrokinesis], that is self-explanatory on what it does and you can't be a [Waterbender] without it but why [Cultivation]? They don't do that in the show."

{[Cultivation] is a [skill] that allows the user to generate qi, a type of energy, and store in in one's body. It has variable number of uses from strengthening and refining the flesh or use to power many different [skills]. [Waterbender] use qi as the primary power source for most of its [skills] like [Hydrokinesis].}

Seriously, qi? I know the show has many of the bending styles based on real life martial arts but it does not take place in Murim. But qi does vaguely remind me of something. Qi, qi qi, ki?, xi?, chi? Chi!

"Wait, did the [System] took the small reference of blocking the chi paths of a [bender] paralyze their ability to bend at all and base the whole entire [class] around it. Ugh. Does that mean I need to [cultivate] or something like that everyday if I want to have enough energy to fuel my bending?"

{Yes.}

Now, I regret what I tried last night during the bucket training. I was so hoping to bend immediately after I gained the [class] but now I need to wait until I have enough qi.

So after placing the waterskin next to spot I put my satchel while practicing, I calm myself down with a deep breath and closed my eyes. I looked deep inside myself and activate [Cultivation] and I felt something change within my lower stomach. At first it was hard to perceive but after some time looking it became more and more clear. It was some kind of spiritual energy I never saw before but felt so natural, like it came from me. Despite being pure energy, it took a more visual and more symbolic form, that of a natural spring. Not a large one but a minuscule one like you were digging in the sand at the beach or the dirt near a river and a trickle of very muddy started to slowly rise from the soil.

Even with the brief time I had to see what was happened, I felt a very strong strain accompany my being to the point I was not longer able to continue staying focused. I open my eyes so fast that as if I was startled awake from a nightmare and gasped loudly to get as much air in my lungs as possible. Breathing heavily, I braced myself on my knees as exhaustion washed over me. As water dripped off my nose, I brought my hand up and wiped my forehead showing it was covered in sweat.

Wow, that was way more tiring than I thought it would be, and I have to do this often, ugh. I should get back to it then, the more often I do it, the more easier it probably would get, like working out.

Once I felt better enough to start again after a short break, I began again. Looking within myself, I was able to find this spring much faster than last time and as I see the water merging and starting to stagnate in a puddle, I reach out to it. This water felt wrong, not unnatural but it could be so much better. I pulled on in like what an actual [waterbender] would do with real water. I had it drawn away from the puddle and I did my best to separate it with the impurities within, I may not have did a great job but droplets I pulling are much cleared than they were with the rest of the water. I continued to do this until I was able to create a mini stream away from this puddle. I had the water flow like the canal, having as close of the mindset I had while training next to. Letting my mind flow and be one with the water and had the stream collect into a different small pool.

When I opened my eyes this time, I found myself performing the movement I had while training at this spot previously. It seems like this continued practice over the past week had ingrained itself into my mind and I subconsciously reenacted it while [cultivating].

This was not the only surprise that came about when I stopped.

For collecting oneself, calming your mind and becoming attuned with your surroundings

Gained [Waterbender] Skill:

[Meditation 1]

Neat, so it seems like you don't need to sit criss cross applesauce on the floor to [meditate]. You just needs to get into the right mindset. Useful for me.

I continued on with this [cultivation] style with the faux tai chi movement along the water until I was able to create an energy pool that I assumed big enough to go to use. [Meditation] really helped me focus enough to extract the water like qi more easily but even though it is too hard to tell, I believe it also increased the generation of qi by a slight margin. Now I'm ready to actually waterbend for the first time.

I head to the edge of the canal and look downward. I began mimicking the waving movement I usually practice on the bucket. I slowly push my hand forward and then pull it back. With my movements, the water on the surface starts to be disturbed until slowly but surely a small wave started to appear matching my motions. I try to quench my excitement as to not disturb my focus and I was able to increase the size of the wave to a little more than an inch tall after some back and forth.

Ok, this is awesome but let try something different.

I released the wave and started to move my hands up as pushing the air up. The surface of the water then bulge up and an amount the size of a marble broke free rippling from the disconnection of the water tension. As I circled my hands like I was using them to draw in a fishing line, the water marble started to rise. This is when the dam for the joy and excitement I felt finally broke through.

Jumping up with my hands and tail straight in the air causing the sphere to drop and splash back into the canal.

"I'm a f*cking [Waterbender]!"
