Mr. Simon at the front of the classroom had a smirk on his face, he felt proud being praised by this kid on his first day in class, he even had a better impression of the kid.
He had already forgotten that he was going to scold the two of them for making noises in his class.
His spirits was lifted, he said “You can do that after the class, seat down” he had to put on a show of not caring about a little compliment from a student, so he acted like he didn’t care about it, but his tone was much friendly than before.
“Moving on, there is no need to go on about how we came about having the nine elements, so we are just going to skip that”
“All of you here have gone through your awakening, so you must have noticed that the light that was emitted during your awakening differed from one person to another, right?”
“Yes sir” the whole class answered in a chorus.
“And you must have heard the principal talking about potential right?”
The class answered affirmatively again.
Mr. Simon then said “Good, what he was talking about was not some spells that are hard to cast, but rather it the level of how far you can reach in life in being a mage”
“Mind you that is not absolute, because with hard work and dedication one could surpass any limits that potential sets for them, all you have to do is believe in yourself and put in the hard work”
“As we all know human beings can each awaken an element as soon as they are of age, well some of you might wonder why you all awaken different element if you are using the same awakening stone right?” the class answered like those in a choir.
“Well it is because everyone is born with their innate gift and their temper usually determines the type of elements one awakens”
“For a person with short temper they will awaken the fire element and those with cool temper awakens water element---” Mr. Simon kept on speaking.
Isaac was listening attentively, when he suddenly heard Sam whispered to him.
“Oh and don’t tell anyone what I said earlier and if I were you I wouldn’t pay attention to what he is saying because he is absolutely wrong”
“Huh?” Isaac looked confused, but since he believed what Sam said earlier he decided to listen to what he had to say.
“They are playing a guessing game on what element one awakens, but that is not it, the element that a person awakens is determined a number of factor, your temper or nature might play a small role but it is not what determines it” Sam said in all seriousness.
“First of all I have heard of people with cool temper awakening light element, it is also a cool and calm element, so what makes them so sure that you wouldn’t awaken a light element in place of water element”
“The same goes for Metal and Earth Element, they could be considered as elements that a person who was hardy could awaken, but aren’t there girls with earth and metal element?” Sam asked Isaac.
Isaac thought for a moment before nodding his head in approval.
He then asked in a hushed tone “So what determines the element one awakens?” Isaac asked contemplatively.
“Good question, I don’t know.” Sam said with a sweet smile on his face.
“Eh? So why the hell did you refute what the teacher said if you didn’t know” Isaac wanted to yank his hair.
“Well just because I don’t know that doesn’t mean that what he is saying in correct” Sam raised his shoulder up.

“There are parents with Earth element both and they have given birth to children with fire element or water element or some other elements that had nothing to do with the elements the parents had”

When the teacher was done with how people awaken different elements based on their personality a student at the front seat raised his hand and asked a question on the different levels of potential.
“Good question, I was waiting for someone to ask me this, what is your name kid?”
“My name is Nathan sir” the kid with blue spiked hair answered respectfully.
“Well Nathan, the reason why people have different potential mostly have something to do with your genetic composition, parents with B grade potential will give birth to children with B grade or above potential but it would never be below that”
“But there have been cases of parents whose potential is as bad as it could be who gave birth to geniuses, this may happen when the child has a chance encounter, they might have eaten something that raised their potential’s level to a high level” Mr. Simon said.
Isaac looked towards Sam waiting for his confirmation, Sam only nodded his head signifying that Mr. Simon was correct.
Isaac started wondering whether his parents had that much potential for him to be given birth to with that potential which he had, but he then attributed it to the necklace on his neck again.
“Sir what are the categories of potentials?” Zoe asked, she was also seated at the front seat, she had gained more confidence than during her awakening.
“Well for these Zoe we have five distinct categories, with A being the highest and E being the lowest”
“And in each category there are three sub levels, with A- being the lowest and A being the standard and A+ being the highest”
“Zoe you fall under the A+ category so don’t waste your talent”
“Sir what about me?” Nathan asked eagerly.
“You are under the standard A category” Mr. Simon answered, he remembered the buzz caused during their awakening.
He saw the other students raising their hands to ask for where they stood, he then asked them to calm down.
“I can’t go about telling you which category you fall into one by one, so I am going to tell you how to understand which category you fall into”
“For those in the A category you will remember that the intensity of the light was a dazzling radiance of the color of the element that you awakened, the only difference between A- to A+ is that you would notice the light is retracting a little and for A- and for A it is stable and for A+ it is shining brighter than the standard A”
“Apply this standard to the rest”
“As for B you will remember that the intensity of the light looked like a resplendent glow”
“while C the light looks like luminous beam, and for D it looks like a soft sparkle”
“And the last but not the least would be E, there would only be a faint glimmer of light”
“I am sure all of you remember how the intensity of the light looks when you were awakening, just use this to understand which category you fall into, if you don’t remember there is a chart displaying this on the notice board, check it before it is taken down”
Isaac remembered the absolute terrifying myriad colors he saw during his awakening, he was sure he was above that A+ grade that the teacher was talking about, but he didn’t know what it would be categorized as.
So Isaac once again looked to Sam for confirmation.
Sam smiled a little and said “It is not that he is not correct it is just that there is a level above A+, but it is not classified, so it is called above A grade, but those are very rare, I am not surprised this school doesn’t know about it”
“Sir what is the use of categorizing this into different levels?” a kid in the middle of the auditorium asked.
“Well the reason for this is that the brighter the light during your awakening, the easier it is for you to bring your stars under your command and which means casting your first spell is close at hand”
“And it also determines the number of spells one could cast at a time before having to replenish the energy of your stars”
“You wouldn’t want to cast a spell when your stars are low, you might harm your spirit and fall into a coma”
“Let me not impede on your other teachers, they will tell you all about it during their classes”
“Do you know what element the color you awakened represent?”
“No sir” all the class shouted at the same time.
Mr. Simon glanced at his watch and then said “We will talk about it during our next class, it is time for your next period”
He then looked towards the door and saw a figure standing there , Sam immediately shrunk in his seat, not even in his wildest dream did he expect to meet again so soon.
Isaac noticed him acting weird, so he asked him what was wrong.
Sam gulped and said “We are in deep trouble”
