The food I had was alright. It wasn't great, but it was balanced for me. I felt like I had great energy. I feel ready. This is going to be my first day, I am ready to see what challenges this city has coming for me.
“Well come on new meat. We have deliveries to make, and a schedule to keep.” Pixel says and softly punches my shoulder.
“Okay fine. I feel great. What was in that food?” I asked.
“You don't want to know.” She answers.
“Okay, mysteries right at the start. Got it. Cool.” I respond with some sarcasm.
I stand up from my seat, and stretch a little bit more. Then I looked at Pixel, deliveries I wondered. I wonder if we are some postman or something. Just carriers that moved stuff for people? I guess I will find out by going.
“Alright, let's go.” I went over to her.
“Alright Mona, when we get back, Meat head here might need a drink or two.” Pixel says as she heads out.
“Oh you're joking, it's not going to be that bad.” I joked hoping it wasn't going to be bad.
Pixels chuckles had me worried a bit, as she had grabbed from the back of her chair a weird hood with sleeves but not torso and flicked up the hood to hide her face. Then she got to the door, and opened it.
Outside was bright still, I was not a warm light is what I noticed. It was like a bleached light. Just white light casted down from above, some unknown source being the cause. The heat wasn't too bad though.
I felt my fur grow shorter and thinner to make up for the warmer climate. My body is still so weird. I would've believed I just had insulating fur for an ability, if it wasn't for when I was on the run, I felt my body change. So I knew my ability was more than that. It is adaptable, but just how far can it extend for? What would be my tolerances? How much could my body adapt too? There was so much I did not know, and scared to test out.
I watched as Pixel slipped into the crowd like water flowing through stones. She moves around them with athletic ease. I, on the other hand, had a harder time trying to get between everyone. Just keeping an eye on Pixel was hard enough. Eventually I came out the other side of the crowd where Pixel was waiting for me.
“Well about time you got through them. I was getting bored waiting. Your going to have to learn to get better at moving through crowds of people, if you want to get anywhere during the day.” Pixel advised.
“Noted.” I got out panting a bit.
I noticed Pixel took a second to study me. Maybe trying to figure me out, before she moved on. We were in a back alley that was a tight fit, it didn't seem so advanced as front of buildings appeared. A lot of steam rising from the round, exposed the existence of underground infrastructure. Even though the light which seemed to reach everywhere, somehow avoids these side allies.
“Come, we need to pick up a package.” She said and turned down a corner.

“So we are carriers?” I asked her.
“No, we are whatever is needed for the right money.” She replied.
“So we were paid to pick up something and move it?” I asked.
“Is your ability non ending questions?” Pixel asked, annoyed.
I got the message, and stopped asking questions. Following Pixel we ended up in some far off place away from the guild. Where a person was waiting in the shadows, an envelope sticking out of his arms.
I watched as Pixel bumped into the person. Then the envelope was gone in the next moment as Pixel kept walking. I didn't say anything and followed after Pixel without looking at the person. It was eerie how smooth and practiced she was. She has been doing this a very long time, and knew what she was doing. As we leave the alley, guardsmen surround us. Pixel raises her empty hands, and following her lead, so do I.
“We got a tip off that an illegal talisman hand off was happening around here. You wouldn't know anything about that would you?” The guardsmen who appeared to be in charge asked.
“No, sir. I wouldn't. I am part of phoenix. I am just on an order sir.” Pixel replied in a very cute and innocent manner.
“Then you wouldn't mind if we searched you?” The guardsman sneered not buying her act.
“Go ahead, you won't find anything on me.” She replied, grinning.
They patted her down, searched her clothes, then did the same to me. They didn't seem to find the envelope that we picked up. I was curious about this talisman business they brought up tho.
After the cops were all gone I decided to bring it up, “Hey, Pixel. What is a Talisman?” I asked.
“Talismans are found in the underdark. They are items or imprints that can grant someone more power.” She replied.
The cyberware on her face lit up as she flicked her hand and the envelope appeared as if summoned. Then she danced it between her fingers before it vanished again.
“Tricks of the trade. You don't learn how to get good, you will lose every gray or dark job you ever get. I am not sure how those guards got the tip off, but that means that they either have snitched, or someone who picked up on the trade in the underground.” She clarified.
“I see, would I be able to get one of those?” I asked.
“Not for free. Talismans are very expensive. The better it is, the harder it is to get your hands on it. The rick even collects some and has an arsenal of them. Not all are the same. Some imprint into your flesh and become a part of you, others are one time use spells. Others can even summon things. Though if destroyed or used up they burn away, and have to be found again.” She explained more.
