Chapter 5: Dawn of Day 1

Chapter 5: Dawn of Day 1

I woke up in bed, my head hurting a little bit. I guess a hangover was inevitable. I try to unscramble my memories from last night. I remember after the meeting in the office, I became a part of the alliance, in word. I was going to have to wait till today to officially become a member. Then I spent the rest of the night at the bar, talking to Mona who kept giving me drinks.

I sat up, and looked around, the room I was in wasn't too big, enough for a single person to make do with. My bed was just big enough for me. The bed was as any would think of a bed, but what drew my attention was the little bird that was on the deck sleeping on my nightstand, next to my bed. It seemed to have fallen asleep in a small makeshift bed.

I rub my eyes, and try to make sense of the rest of the room. There was a dresser with three folded sets of clothes. Next to the dresser seemed to be a metal drawer in the wall. After getting up I felt the floor and was surprised by how soft the carpet was. I continue over to the metal drawer and pull it out and realize it's some laundry shoot. Guess the memories put in my head, let me know some practical things. Though it does make me wonder if they are my thoughts.

Looking at the clothes on the dresser, I saw a note. The note was from Pixel. It was very short and to the point.

“Get dressed, here some loner clothes, pay me back later. You got some work after initiation.” She wrote.

“Well guess it beats not having anything.” I mumble.

The clothes were not too bad. What I ended up wearing was very simple but works. I wore a gray crop top, a short sleeveless jacket, and shorts. I figured this was best since my body likes to change. It’s best I don’t wear too much. I might be replacing a lot of clothes. I finish it off with some fingerless leather gloves.

While I was getting dressed I heard a lot of noises outside my window, I had curtains covering the windows. I walk over to it and open the curtains and blinding light flashes in, I blink a few times and my eyes adjust and I can see again. I couldn't see a sun, so I was not familiar with how light is shining everywhere. The streets are full of people. They line the sides of the streets looking toward the front gate like they are waiting for something. The roads themselves are empty, no cars, or traffic.

Curious about what’s happening, I can only assume my new guild mates would hold some answers. I look at the little bird person on my nightstand and see it waking up and stretching. I smile and hold my hand out to see if it will get in it, and it does.

“Welcome to the guild by the way.” The little one says.

“Oh, ah hello. I didn't know you could speak.” I admitted, a bit surprised.

“Ya I can, tho not anyone can understand me. Is it your ability to speak languages?” It asked me

“No its not, why?” I asked.

“You're not speaking common, you're speaking what I speak.” It said.

That news shocked me more than when it spoke. I was speaking another language without knowing it. I was told my power was adaptive, but no explanation on what it is. If it’s not my power, was it the knowledge?

“Ah, hey. How did you end up here? I don't mean like in my room, I mean here like the city.” I asked curious.

“Oh, I was reincarnated. I was promised a good life. I would be able to eat cookies, and live comfortably for all of my next life.” It said.

I had to think, reincarnated? Is that real? What here classifies as real? Everyone has power or abilities. I haven't seen a single regular human yet. Though I guess these are also things that still quite seem alien to me. Just like before, it's too much to think about right now. I don't have enough pieces of the puzzle yet.

“What’s your name?” I asked finally.

“Oh, no one has ever asked me my name, except the guild leader. My name is Paradigm. Though you can call me Para.” She says smiling.

“Para, if you don't mind me asking, why is everyone here female?” I asked curiously.

“Oh! Because most of the men sign up to go fight in the underground. They should be coming back today. Women go too, but a lot of men go. Show of strength or pride to see who can make it deeper. I think it's silly, people should just eat cookies and sit around all day.” Para says giggling.

I nod, as I head out of my room. So everyone on the streets are waiting to see everyone come back from the underground. Leaving my room, which is on the second floor, I head down stairs. Mona is behind the bar already and seems busy. She didn't seem to really need any clothes, she had all her metal external parts. Pixel is sitting at the bar with an already empty bottle in her hands and dressed in some baggy tech pants, and a tank top.

“Morning.” I say coming out of the hall into the main room.

“Well, it seems you can handle your booze somewhat. I wasn't expecting you to be awake till later on today.” Mona said chuckling, her visor changing expressions on her display.

“Well, you seem up enough, get some food then we start working. I would like to get a start before the streets get too bad.” Pixel said.

“Yes, mam!” I responded with a bit of a chuckle.

“Careful you're still new here.” Pixel warned.

“Ya my bad, so what do I need to do to get my mark to be a part of the alliance?” I asked.

“You already do.” Mona pointed out, as she pointed to my midriff, where a simple flower design appeared on my sides near the bottom of my ribs.

“Oh, that's interesting. I didn't need to do something?” I asked curious.

“Well you must've done something noteworthy enough to the guild for it to mark you.” Pixel pointed out.

“I didn't do anything I think. I just talked to Para here.” I noted and held her out where she was still in my hand.

“You? You talked to her?” Mona asked surprised.

“Should I not have been able to?” I asked.

“No one has spoken to her except the guild master. Wait, where did you find her?” Mona asked.

“In my room?” I asked, so baffled as to why this was so important.

“Well you see, Para only speaks avian. Each species has its own native language. That others can't understand. Unless its a power, there has been some attempts at trying to crack that barrier, outside of some very few people who have it as an ability.” Light says calmly coming down stairs.

She was dressed in a very beautiful deep blue full dress that captivates her curves and matches her sparkling eyes. Her nails done up in a similar blue. She looked wonderful as when I first saw her.

“My what a fancy get up, expecting someone back today? Maybe a lover?” I asked surprised by her outfit.

“No dear, I am off to a meeting of guild leaders. There is one guild member who should be coming back today. I do hope you're ready. He can be unreasonable, and extremely territorial.” She says smiling innocently.

A part of me felt she was concerned for me, and it was confirmed by Pixels scoff behind me. Something about this guy isn't right from their reactions, but somehow remains a part of the guild. Guess I will see later today after working with Pixel.

I set Para down, and look at the counter where Pixel set a plate down for me to eat food. Clearly she wanted me to hurry up, she really wanted to get a start on the day.
