It all happened so fast. I can still feel my heart pounding in my chest and the ringing in my ears. What was a nice walk, quickly transformed into a warzone. The faces of the dead flashed in my mind. I can feel with every breath the dried blood mixed into my fur separate as I take in deep breaths. The metal cage I was holding is still unharmed, but this thing whatever is in it should not be worth so many deaths.
“We should be fine to rest here.” The leopard said, closing the door behind her.
She was covered in blood, of the man she cut in half. It looked like a video game. In one swing and suddenly the man was in two pieces falling to the ground on either side of her. The battle was so sudden. I still can't comprehend all of what happened. I tried to reach for the water next to me, when my hand protested and hurt. The wince of pain probably gave away that I was hurt to the leopard lady.
“Let me look at your hand. That punch was something. Knocked that guy clean on his ass.” She commended walking over to me.
“I didn't even really understand what was happening. I just acted.” I said, a bit embraced by such a thing.
I called back to the moment it happened. We were running, the Lady and I broke out of the group and escaped into an alleyway. What happened next, was so fast and sudden it didn't feel real. I remembered a man stepped into the alley on the other side and tried blocking us in. I just remembered keeping my pace, I planted my foot, feeling all my core twist and my shoulder rotate as I hurled my fist into this guy's jaw. I still can hear the sickening crunch and the splatter of blood from him biting off his own tongue when I think about it. Without missing a step I continued running as the man collapsed. I was rudely brought back to the present by the pain in my hand as the leopard lady set my hurt hand in some wrappings to stop it from moving.
“You could be a little more gentle.” I huffed as my hand aches and complains.
“Well maybe learn to punch without breaking your hand.” She replied, getting up from helping me and grabbing some water for herself.
I sighed, knowing she was right. It was sloppy, but effective. As long as it was only that guy. If there had been more, I wasn't sure just punching my way through would've worked past the first guy. It was such a bloody horrible experience. The smell of iron still plagues my nose.
“How long are we going to be able to stay here, do you think?” I asked.
“Depends on if they saw us sneak into this safe house.” She responded, checking the camra’s.
I sighed, best I take this time to get my energy back. Looking around we seem to be in some small apartment-like room. The door on the outside looked like any other in this complex, but inside was heavily reinforced. Including the windows and walls. The necessaries for camping out here were available. There were kitchen appliances, a few cots, dry foods, and containers of water. I didn't see any of the camra’s she is checking, which means hopefully no one else knows of them.
“We won't be able to stay too long though. If any of them have a descend bloodhound they can track us to here. So we will need to leave for a different place soon. Go wash up and change your scent. The shower still works.” She said to me, without looking away from the camra’s.
It made sense, if my nose wasn't so full of blood from the fight I might even be able to track us. I set the cage on the counter and head to the bathroom to wash myself up. Maybe cleaning this blood from my fur might help me feel better about what all has happened so far.
The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.
After spending time cleaning and washing myself clean and finding some space clothes to dress in, my body adapted and dried my fur for me. Which is very nice and convenient. I stepped out of the bathroom and looked around to see she was still on the camera's and hadn't moved from her seat. Though she was tapping the desk weirdly. Something deep in my memories called back something called morse code. She was talking to me through tapping the desk. Thank who ever for having this knowledge.
“Someone is in here, watching us.” She tapped out on the desk.
I tried my best to not react and keep my calm. I make my way to the kitchen. I got to the fridge and opened it looking inside for something that might be useful, but couldn't find anything. I am not sure what I can do to try to make this person reveal themselves. I have yet to hear anything, so maybe they are not moving. I closed the fridge after not finding anything useful, I decided I was going to try something else. I opened the pantry and found what I was looking for, flour. After grabbing the flour I took it to the counter and opened it.
“Hey, are you hungry? I can try making us something. It would be best to have energy.” I asked her.
“Ya, I am hungry. Just make it quick. Don't be careless.” She responded not moving.
I turn to move to the other counter, but trip over my own foot and fall over spilling flour everywhere, as a big dust cloud forms in the room. I start coughing and waving my hand in front of my face trying to get clean air, while trying to get back to my feet. That's when I heard it. A small cough from the corner of the room, trying to stifle it but ended up coughing anyways.
‘I got you’ I grinned inwardly and pretending to get to my feet, I launched myself at the corner and pounced on who was in it. The surprise attack made them forget to camouflage themself, as when I made contact with them they became visible. It was an Are’s member, a chameleon with some cloaking ability.
“You assholes again. I swear I am tired of finding Are’s members.” I said pinning the woman down to the ground.
Not much sooner than I pounced, the leopard also jumped over and pounced as well, and before I could understand why, she had already slit the throat of the woman I was holding down. I watched as she tried to gasp for air, to not be able to, her body thrashing trying anything she can, before the life washes away and drains from her eyes. Her body became still unmoving.
I stood up huffing, as my adrenalin had shot a massive wave of energy through my body. My hands are trembling a bit. I had done it, I found her, and held her down. Now we were alive but our potential assassin is now dead in a puddle of her own blood. I really begin to have thoughts just how much death I am going to see living in this city.
“We need to leave now. Their member is dead, they will know we found them. They will forget about waiting for us to leave. They will be coming.” She warned, quickly gathering her stuff.
I didn't even respond, I grabbed the cage and was ready to leave out the door. She quickly came over with what looked like a gun, and opening the door she rushed out. With that I quickly chased after her running fast. If we had a chance to run, it was now. We might be able to get to a different location if they have yet to block us in here.
We quickly made our way to the ground floor and ran into an alleyway, diving around corners at breakneck speeds. We needed to get distance and fast. It didn't take long before I heard noises and yelling from where we just ran from. I really hope I make it out of this alive.
