Chapter 3: Living Life in the Night

Chapter 3: Living Life in the Night

I stood there, just inside the gate looking around taking in the sights. The buildings are tall and angular, and pressed close together. The roads stretch really wide, I would guess to allow larger vehicles for bigger people, if the guards outside were a preview to what will come. Those bears looked very big. I get a good look at some vehicles as they pass by. They vary in quality. Some look like they are barely held together, while others look brand new.

I noticed a few people walking around, animals of some kind or another. Their class in society was immediately apparent. The rich wore nice tailored clothes or fabrics. The poor, either had nothing or very loose not fitted pieces of clothing. Looking down at myself I am definitely in the poor range, with no money or clothes to my name.

I guess, my first step is trying to find something to do to earn money. That pig fella said something about bounty hunting, but that is out of my league. I wonder if there is some building to help me get a job, or something.

I start walking down the street, on the sidewalk. Very painfully aware of how I look right now. Periodically I would walk past a dark and narrow alley where some noises of the unsettling kind can be heard.

“Guess even with the guardsmen, crime might be rampant, or those are some thugs just trying to steal some money.” I sigh.

I get to what looks like a stop of some kind. A small overhang next to the road, which inside shows a map of this section of the town.

“Why is the town split into sections like a pie?” I wonder to myself.

Looking at this map, it's mostly split apart like a pie into sections, like you're not supposed to go into the different ones. From the front gate where I entered there is a strip that runs down the center where a circle in the center of the city seems to fall to this section. In other parts it's not exact slices or even either. Like the roads are used to separate the pieces of the puzzle that make up these sections of the city. There are dots across the city in buildings that seem to always be avoided by these segments, or at the heart of them, like they are unclaimed or their own entity.

With this knowledge, the best place for me to go would be one of these buildings that stand out from the rest. One happens to be nearby, I wonder if they are job sights. With that i start walking down the street again, grateful for that map.

I get a chill down my back and shiver, as a strong cold breeze blows through the mostly empty street and ruffles my fur. I shivered even more when I felt all my fur grow longer and more full. My best guess would be my body trying to keep me warm.

“My body? Why am I thinking like it's something different from me?” I asked, mumbling out loud as I looked at my hand again.

I shake off the weird feeling, continuing to my destination, although much warmer. I wonder if there is some sort of day time here. I guess I will have to wait to see.

Arriving at this building, it's like everything is afraid to approach it. It stands on its own, with a symbol above the door. It has a weird blue bird as a symbol. I shrug, curious about why, and so I enter the building.

Inside looks like a fight just took place and only two people are inside and cleaning up. One is much taller, looks to be a mix of organic and robotic. Her fur is a teal and black color. Her face is a smooth vizor but looks animal-like with a maw that doesn't seem to open. She has metal covering her chest, most of her hips, and her feet. Each of her heavy steps are very powerful, and dominating. She stands much taller than me and definitely has to duck under the door frame to get inside, though her voice is rather sweet sounding.

The other was a dark furred cat of some kind, with cybernetic marks in her fur glowing in streaks across her body; she has two piercing green eyes. The lights dancing through her fur are a mix of blue and red, like they are fighting each other. She doesn't seem taller than me, maybe just a bit shorter.

“Ahh, hello.” I eventually squeezed out afraid they might turn on me for speaking.

“We are not taking orders right now, please never come back.” The cat lady said in a huff without looking.

“Um, I am not here for an order. I am new to to-” I was interrupted quickly by the taller lady.

“Oh then you really need to leave now.” The lady looked at me, and started coming my way. “If you stay here people will get the wrong idea. You do not want to be here.” She finished trying to usher me out the door.

“What? Why? I dont know whats going on? What is this place?” I tried to get answers.

She didn't say anything back, she just pushed me out the door and shut it before I could try to come back inside.

“Well shit. Now what?” I look around confused.

“ My what a girly like you doing on your own?” A snarly voice asked from behind me.

“Girly?” I asked and turned to face who was in front of me confused.

The person in front of me was a reptile of some kind. His skin was rather pale, but had prominent red markings, and what looked to make up a goat head on their neck. He seemed well put together with his clothes, though the smell of alcohol from his breath smelt flammable.

“Ya. You sugar pups. You look like you can make a guy's night end good. If you get what I mean.” He says grinning at me.

“First off, ew. Secondly, not a chance in hell.” I scoffed as I started to walk off.

“Now who said you get to leave?” He sneared at me, as he pulled out a metal baseball bat.

I turn and look at him. My eyes glancing at his weapon as it flares up with red energy, causing my hackels to raise. If that hits me, it's going to hurt bad. I need to deal with it immediately. Before I could know what I was going to do, I closed the distance between us rushing at him, as I approached I could see him get ready to swing at my head. I let my knees give a bit after my foot was planted between his allowing me to duck just enough to get under the swing. Now I am way too close for him to use his weapon effectively. I ball my fist up and using my planted leg and pushing off and throwing all my weight into my fist as I swing up under his chin landing a solid blow. With my height advantage I carried a lot of moment thru my uppercut.

He stumbles backward, baffled and confused, with some blood coming out of his mouth. Which he sees after a curious hand feels his face and pulls it away to see blood. Then look at something near my feet. His tongue lies at my feet. When my punch landed he bit off a chunk of his tongue. Anger fills his face as he charges me swinging his bat at me.

I was a little late to react enough and tried to sacrifice my left arm to redirect the blow. The impact felt crushing, but I was able to protect my head. Now my left arm was throbbing a bit, potentially broken, it was hard to move. No time to think, closing in the gap his drunken self left open, putting too much energy into his swing thru himself off balance. I was able to take a quick step to my left where his guard was open and using my right arm I swung as hard as I could, feeling my body help me, I punched him with all I had trying to snake my leg behind his and drill my fist into his face sending him over backward onto his back flat onto the ground as he groans in a mess.

“Carefull, some girls bite back.” I growl at him, before spitting on him.

I cradle my left arm, it really hurts. A throbbing pain radiating up from it. I take a second to look at my opponent to make sure he is down. He is not responsive, nor moving.

“Good riddance.” The cat lady scoffs. “Well, you beat the shit out of an Ares member, so your really fucked now.” she finishes chuckling.
