I woke up. But I was not in the bunker, in fact, I was in a forest.
“Hello?” I called out.
No response, I was alone. Maybe Pax was trying to tell me something. But before I could do anything else, I heard a voice.
“Today, our community gathers here today to mourn the passing of Wynne Amari.” The voice said.
What? I'm dead? I ran towards the voice, to find my funeral happening before me. The community leader Quennel was speaking.
“I knew I should have hidden my cloak better…” Grandmother said sadly.
Everyone was wearing a dark blue, as a custom for a funeral. What I had not expected to see was my grave. A large stone was set, with leaves decorating the outside of it, to smooth down the rock, and flowers were put all over in a fashionable way. A beautiful pattern rose to make a platform for my name. I saw my family, I saw everyone, I was devastated, I had died? All my work was a dream?
“Everyone, please, we all treasured Wynne, they were a kind, beautiful, smart person. Would Wynne’s family and friends like to say anything?” Quennel said, looking amongst the crowd.
“I would.” Father said, walking up to the front.
I could hear people crying, and I wanted to comfort them, but I had to listen to my family first.
“Wynne, my beloved daughter, I treasured them dearly, and when my mother told me that the cloak was gone, I knew instantly who was smart enough to find it. I searched, and searched, but no luck, three days of searching the whole island, I knew they had taken to the skies. I was heartbroken, the love of my life and my daughter had died in the skies. I do not think I will ever fly again, the skies have taken too much. I wish I could think Wynne will come back, but they were much too adventurous. Wynne, if your spirit can hear me, give me a sign.” Father seemed to plead.
I summoned all my courage, walked up, and tried to whisper in their ear. Unfortunately, no reaction, and no one else saw or reacted to me.
“I guess not…” Father said sadly.
I felt desperate, but if no one saw me or heard me, I could find out some things.
“Hello, Wynne.” A voice said from behind me.
I turned around to find Drizelene.
“Oh! Hello Drizelene.” I said, bowing my head.
“You must think you are dead right?” Drizelene asked.
This story has been taken without authorization. Report any sightings.
“Yes, and you being here makes me one hundred percent.” I said.
“Hah! No, you know Xujun?” Drizelene said, chuckling at the thought.
“Hm, it rings a bell, but I cannot place the name.” I said, pondering the name.
“Well, Xujun is the God of illusions, dreams and hallucinations.” Drizelene said.
“Oh, I am dreaming?” I asked, thinking that was right.
“Well, sort of, all of this happened a while ago, but both me and Xujun could not find you until now. So with our powers combined, I made you a sort of spirit, while Xujun played this scenario back.” Drizelene said.
“So this all happened?” I asked.
“Yes.” Drizelene said.
“Will I be able to find out what people really think about me?” I asked, thinking it was yes.
“Of course, I want you to find out your friends and your foes to drive you to success.” Drizelene said.
With that, they disappeared, and I half thought Xujun was going to appear, but I left anyway. I was curious as to what my family thought of me. The ceremony was in the finishing state. All the death lanterns were lit.
“Fly!” Quennel said, and everyone let the lanterns fly.
I cared less about this now, I wanted to know what people thought of me. As everyone left for their homes, I followed my cousins, as I had always been quite curious about their true opinion. The adults had gone ahead, which meant my four cousins and my siblings were alone.
“It is so sad that Wynne is dead…” My oldest cousin said, I figured that they cared.
“Oh please, they did not matter, after all, they became useless after our mother left.” My second oldest sibling said.
I thought if anyone, my siblings could relate. I guess not, that was much too harsh for them to have ever cared…
“I agree, they were never important, even when your mother was around.” My other cousin said.
“Please, just stop, I cared about them, and you both should have as well.” My oldest sibling said.
At least I knew what they all thought of me. It hurt, sure, but I knew how they felt. Just before I could see what the rest of my family truly thought of me, I woke up. I got myself into a proper state, and went to go see Quivyre and Grandfather.
“Good morning, I assume you to be Wynne?” A tree person who I thought was Aeymar.
“Yes, and you are Aeymar?” I asked politely.
“Indeed I am, are you planning to leave?” Aeymar asked.
“Sadly yes, my journey is already time limited, and the more time I spend in each place, the more time I lose with my mother.” I said.
“Very well then, your grandfather is still asleep somehow.” Aeymar said.
“Ah, I will go wake them,” I said, walking back to my room where the staff was.
I shook the staff to wake my grandfather.
“Good morning to you too, clearly cannot wait to leave.” Grandfather said, grumpily.
I picked up the staff and the rest of my things and headed back to the main room.
“Good morning Wynne!” Quivyre said.
“Ah, good morning Quivyre, how was your sleep?” I asked, happy to see that Quivyre was awake.
“It was good! I assume you need to be taken to the entrance again?” Quivyre asked.
“Yes, but thank you for letting me stay here!” I said.
“Of course! Put the earplugs in, and we can go.” Quivyre said.
I put the earplugs in, and headed after Quivyre outside the bunker. The Drithious seemed not as mesmerized, so I figured the festival was over. Until they started going back to the hole, and the siren emerged. Then, Quivyre started following the siren.
“Quivyre..? What are you doing!” I screamed, trying to get Quivyre attention. Sadly, only for a moment they stopped.
“Their ear plugs fell out, grab them, and shove them into Quivyre’s ears.” Grandfather said, panicking.
I did exactly that, and Quivyre returned to their senses.
“Oh my! I could not do anything, I was hypnotized but I was still in my right mind!” Quivyre said.
“Right, are they all in their right of mind though?” I asked.
“No, they are not aware they are dying, I figured it out when… nevermind.” Quivyre said.
“Right, we will leave then, goodbye Quivyre.” I said, heading towards the entrance.
“Bye Wynne!” Quivyre said.
I left the tree, and flew once more, as now I was knowledgeable on sirens.
