Rise of the goblin king part 1

'Let us begin the event in...

Sam was back on the buisness street, together with Linda but before he could say anything to her, sounds of horns and drums filled the air.

The guards on the east side of the walls were shouting and ringing the alarm bells immediately afterwards, therefore Sam directly made his way to the east gate.

His thoughts kept wandering to the rewards which had been stated, especially the Level up!

' This should mean that no one has reached Level 20 until now, maybe more changes will occur after the event?'

Sam and Linda reached the east gate, where Kain and some guards were already waiting. Their faces showed worry.

The first thing Sam saw when he looked outside of the city were multiple figures coming out of the forest.

Goblins, mostly the size of a ten year old child, with a few bigger exemplars mixed in, approched the stone walls. They held swords, spears daggers or clubs, which they were holding over their heads while advancing with loud shrieks.

" Go and get the other soldiers! Linda, you call the twins!"

After giving his orders, Sam immediately called Jack. He wanted to make sure that the villages weren't involved in the event.

" I just came back from outside the village. There are no goblins in the surroundings. As stated in the message, only cities get attacked by goblins."

" That's good to hear. Like this, you will be able to leave Woodchester.

I want you to organize a team and come over to Blackstone city! Our people need the experience and I want to go for the guild rewards."

Jack fully agreed and ensured Sam to reinforce them with a team of 20 soldiers from Woodchester and Oakhausen, including Nissa and Jack himself.

Ten minutes later, a majority of the guards arrived atop the east walls. Sam, Linda, Kain and the twins stood side by side and watched the goblin army.

The goblins had formed a big line around 100 meters away from the wall where they held their positions.

A tall goblin, who almost looked like an orc, inside a crude made full body steel armor walked to the front of the army.

The goblin held a big club with multiple sharp edges and spikes while shouting through the small visor of his helmet.

Sam and the other soldiers on top of the wall couldn't understand what the goblin shouted, however they clearly heard the army of goblins cheering in response.

They seemed enthusiastic and ready for battle when they started to charge towards the humans.

" Archers, get ready! Aim at the ranged attackers, the other ones will be killed by us melee fighters!"

The archers began to shoot their arrows. Meanwhile, Kain organized a squad for a charge out of the city.

The story has been taken without consent; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

Most of the goblins weren't a threat to the trained soldiers of Blackstone City, however their numbers and occasional strong enemies mixed into their army could become dangerous for them.

Sam wanted to thin out their numbers with the help of their archers before charging out with his melee fighters. He didn't want to engage them in a big melee battle but random charges out of the gate with instant retreat back to safety could very well result in heavy casualties on the enemies side.

Kain had picked the twenty fighters with the highest attack damage for a swift charge, when Sam arrived behind the gate.

" Sam, I think these men should be enough for a successful surprise attack. Maybe, you should wait on top of the gate."

Kain tried to convince Sam to stay inside the walls, which was answered by a slight smile.

" I'm the strongest fighter of Blackstone City, also don't forget that I am aiming for the first price in this event!

It's only natural that I'm fighting in the front lines."

Unbeknown to Sam, his answer motivated Kain and the surrounding soldiers, who had heard him, a lot. They formed a line behind Sam while a few other strong men got ready at the gate.

Their job was to open the gate and quickly close it again after the squad successfully retreated.

Sam took a look at the soldiers behind him. All of them held two handed weapons, like warhammers, battleaxes and greatswords.

" I will explain the plan to you. We will charge out of the gate and kill as many goblins in the span of 30 seconds before retreating back into the city!"

The soldiers nodded in silence, with stern expressions.

Linda shouted from on top the gate, signaling them to start the charge.

The gate was opened and Sam, who was only holding a steel shield ran out.

A few goblins were in the process of carrying ladders towards the stone wall. Fortunately Linda had seen them early on and ordered the archers to kill the carriers. Around 70 goblins had already reached the gate but they stepped back after seeing the gate opening.

Sam didn't mind and charged, shield first into the enemies. He kicked out with his left leg and broke the hip of an ordinary goblin.

The wounded creature fell down and started to shriek but died shortly afterwards by another kick to its head.

Sam didn't stop and continued with slamming the edge of his shield into one goblins neck, which beheaded it.

Lance had actually sharpened the edge of the round shield, therefore making it easy for Sam to behead his enemies or hack them apart.

Sam turned into a killing machine, punching and kicking every goblin he saw.

The other soldiers did their part as well and killed as many goblins as possible.

After approximately 30 seconds had passed, Sam turned around and yelled at his men to retreat.

The humans retreated back inside the city, only leaving the corpses of more than 60 goblins. Most of them had been cleaved apart by the massive weapons of Sam's warriors.

Inside the city, Sam immediately ent back up the gate and stood next to Linda.

" How is the situation? "

" Our archers are doing a good job and we still have plenty of arrows. Additionally, the mages of the Brightstar battalion are doing heavy damage, we killed at least one fourth of them until now! "

" Really good! Slow down the ranged attacks and let them approach the wall again. If they are near enough, our squad will charge out again! "

Linda nodded and Sam went down the stairs to regroup with Kain and the rest of the warriors.

30 minutes later, the goblins decided to approach the gate again. The arrows and spells had nearly completely stopped, luring the enemies to close the gap between them an the walls.

Sam ordered Linda to wait until the goblins actually placed their ladders against the walls, before giving him the signal. That resulted in a lot of goblins near the walls, when Sam and his squad charged outside again.

Sam told them to use all their available skills after he saw a lot of goblin variants between the remaining enemies.

As expected, most of the goblins they had killed until now had been the weaker ones!

Sam viciously charged inside the enemy lines, blocking a few weapons with his shield, before retaliating with a roundhouse kick.

He beheaded two monsters before punching another head into a pulp. Even though the warriors of Blackstone City were all killing ruthlessly with their big two handed weapons, they all were astonished and even a bit fearful after witnessing Sam massacring the enemies.

Sam and his group needed one minute to kill all of the goblins near the wall and destroy their ladders. They returned afterwards, making it safe for the ranged attackers to bring death to the enemies again.

A horn was blown and the remaining goblins swiftly retreated back inside the forest.

Not more than a hundred were left, including the armored leader.

Jack and his team entered Blackstone City ten minutes later through the north gate. Nissa began to familiarize the soldiers with the city, while Jack made his way towards the keep to meet Sam who had returned by then.
