As my sword pierced the last monster,
[Floor Cleared!]
[Optional Boss Challenge]
[Yes] or [No]
I clicked on [yes].
I was back at the old throne room, and just like last time, the knight approached me.
But this time, when it leaped, I dodged to the side and did not try to counterattack.
At the same time, the knight quickly attacked again, and I barely blocked as I was sent flying.
I crashed into the wall, albeit at a slower speed than last time.
The same sensation of thousands of needles appeared again, and soon I was back to my previous state.
The knight, just like last time, was standing completely still.
It was the perfect moment to use the 'wolf dash' skill.
As I used the skill, everything turned to a blur as I darted towards the knight with high speed.
But to my surprise, the knight parried my attack as I propelled into the wall of the sudden redirection.
The knight did not use a follow-up attack because he was standing completely still.
It hurt a lot when I crashed into the wall, but the pain was slowly subsiding since I had the regeneration skill.
'Why is he not moving?'
Did his parrying count as an attack because I crashed into the wall?
My regeneration skill healed my body to full health. I stood up and cautiously approached the knight, who was motionless.
The subtle tremor running through his armor frame was visible.
I could see him grip the worn-out sword tightly as he tried his very best to move.
'So he really can't move'.
What if I attack him?
I swung my sword, aiming for the slit gap between his armor, but he quickly parried and swung his sword with incredible speed.
Barely blocking the attack, I propelled myself into one of the pillars in the ruined throne room.
Dust immediately filled the air, and my regeneration skill was activated.
This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience.
Yet the knight was completely still again.
"I think I know what is going on".
The knight, after he makes a successful attack, is forced to not move.
Until I either try to attack him or when I show my back to him.
I thought of the first time that I attacked him.
It worked the same way there, except he wasn't as aggressive. He only parried, and at the last moment, he disarmed me.
He even let me live at the end.
This knight would try to kill me every chance he got, which was evident by his immediate counterattack.
But if that's how it works, then I can easily defeat him.
Every time he attacks me and I block, it counts as an attack, therefore he stands completely still.
I know that every time I block, the force is so strong that I crash into the wall.
This could severely injure me, like last time, and I would lose the challenge.
But there is something that this floor did not account for.
'I have two skills that are super strong here'.
One, I have a regeneration skill, and as long as I did not look away, it would only be a matter of time till I won.
Two, I had the wolf dash skill, which forces him to parry, and I got sent into the wall. Me smashing into the wall somehow counts as his attack.
"Hahaha"
I laughed out loud thinking of this situation.
Using my skill, I dashed towards him, and he parried the attack, sending me flying into the walls around us.
Bang!
My regeneration skill would activate and heal me back to full health.
Standing up, I would use 'wolf dash' again as the cooldown was already over.
Each time, he would parry, sending me flying.
The cycle continued: dash, parry, flying into the wall, and using the regeneration skill.
At some point, I thought this was pointless, but suddenly, during the last clash,
Cling!
Snap!
As our swords met with an ear-splitting ring, The knight's worn-out blade finally snapped after the continuous clashes.
I saw the broken sword fly from his grasp, clattering across the floor.
[You have cleared the challenge!]
- Returning back to the floor
The announcement appeared,
But for a moment, time seemed to stand still. The knight stood there, disarmed, with no weapon in hand.
The old, worn-out sword had finally broken down.
But as I looked at him, I noticed an unexpected change. He stood taller, and his presence suddenly amplified, emanating a dangerous aura that filled the air, making it hard to breathe.
At the same time, a chill ran down my spine as I sensed the overwhelming strength. The air felt heavier, and it was harder to breathe.
The wolf never made me feel this way, and now you are telling me the optional boss could do this?
If this was his true strength, then I would never be able to win.
I tightened my hand around my sword, and a bead of sweat trickled down my forehead.
But suddenly I was saved by the bell.
My vision went dark, and I was back at the field.
"Thank God". I breathed out in relief.
At least I completed the challenge.
His presence suddenly got a lot stronger after I broke his sword. Was it because the challenge was cleared?
I guess the knight was never meant to be defeated, and breaking his sword was all I had to do to successfully clear it.
But if I cleared the optional boss, there must be some rewards.
[Congratulations for clearing the optional boss!]
[Reward]
- Mental Resistance [B]
Just in time, the reward appeared for clearing the options boss challenge.
"Mental Resistance".
If there was one important skill for a regressor, then this skill would be it.
For a regressor that keeps repeating the same loop, at some point they will end up insane. So this skill was perfect, and the rank of it was even B!
This skill was now the strongest after my 'Perfect Clear' skill. I clicked on it to read the description.
A frown appeared on my face.
[Mental Resistance[B]]
- You have increased resistance against magic that attacks the mind.
This was not the skill that I thought it would be. It was a skill to defend against attacks on my mind.
It was useful, but not what I really wanted. I thought it would be the skill that allowed me to be calm in any situation.
That would be super useful because deaths or mental shocks wouldn't affect me.
But what was the point of getting this skill? When no one in this floor uses magic against the mind?
