The main camp of the 5th Capo regime had been settled in the plain field of the 4th district. The soldiers had occupied the whole place and cut-off the advances of the villagers. Inside his tent, Patioche Woale, the 5th Capo of the Verdugo family, had been reading the reports about the situation. He leaned his back and huffed after he finished. From his palm, a silver clock-watch was tickling. It was 3:45 in the morning after he peeked at it.
His face turned dark and his eyes changed silver while looking at the time. He quietly giggled before he put it back to his pocket chest. It was coincidentally kept hidden before from the eyes of the messenger who just arrived for an immediate news report.
“Sir, we found some suspicious warehouse in the tunnel.” He saluted and knelt down in one knee with his right hand placed on his chest in respect. “We don’t know what to do so the Squad leaders told their soldiers to stand still and wait for your command. What is your order, sir?”
Patioche kept quiet while observing the messenger. He placed his elbows with his hand pressed together on the table. Then, he rested his face on his closed hands with his legs crossed together.
“Oh,” he smiled and paused for a second, “have you sent a survey squad to investigate the inside?” The messenger shook his head in denial and replied, “Unfortunately, no one dares to step in the warehouse.” With his answer, Patioche smirk and asked, “So, why aren’t they moving in and wait for my command?” The messenger gulped and unable to respond from the pressure came out from the Capo. He coughed once and response with proper tone, “Sir, the.. the fourth Capo Alfio Alfe commanded us to not approach the place because it is not that important. So, we seek further instruction for the next capo who is very sincere and more diligent in this matter. And it is you, sir.”
Patioche rested his face on his left hand and tilted his head, he said, “As a messenger, you dare to insult the credibility of my companion?” The messenger quickly bowed his head and replied, “N-no, sir. We don’t intend to say that. It is actually not what you think it is, sir. Please forgive my tone of speech and choice of words. We are just seeking for your guidance regarding this topic.”
“You don’t need to be so polite about it,” Patioche mischievously laughed before he continued, “Anyways, why do you guys want to look inside?” The messenger drew out a scroll from his jacket and handed it over to the capo. Patioche picked it and scrolled it down. The messenger resumed, “Sir, we believe the warehouse is hiding something. The scroll shows you the depicted illustration that our observers saw at the outside. It is covered with barrier and a dark shadow are protecting it against our mages. It is also releasing some kind of miasma that causing the non-mages to collapsed. This is why we can’t connect the route of supplies to the 4th caporegime camp.”
“So, you’re telling me that the reason behind the refusal of Alfio is this?” Patioche put his hand on his chin and peek at the illustration. “So, you want me to order you guys to survey and investigate because of the fear you’ll get scolded, huh.” The messenger nodded. “Yes, sir. That’s why―”
The story has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.
“― I refuse,” Patioche interrupted him before he could finish. The messenger, surprised, wanted to ask for the reason but he saw his terrifying gaze warning him not to do so.
“Anyway, leave it be. Tell them not to dare go inside the warehouse.” Patioche stood up from his chair and moved towards the messenger. “Un.. derstood?”
“Y-Y-yes, sir!”
The messenger lowered his head and quickly ran outside his tent. As for Patioche, he placed down the scroll and burned it by his fire magic.
“Let the pandora’s box not to be opened. Hmm..?” He turned his gaze at the direction of the pressure he kept sensing faraway. “What the hell is going on there?” He moved outside and looked at the direction of the upcoming presence of a powerful mana user.
After he closed his eyes for a minute to increase his concentration, his body started to feel pain. His mouth spilled out the word, [Vengeance]. Before he could move, a large particle beam with several spikes had appeared above the sky. The huge mushroom of the blast had illuminated the whole field and hundred of Verdugo forces had vanished. Patioche, luckily, survived from the powerful tier magic released upon them.
“Damn,” he muttered. His eyes turned at the location of the culprit and watched his comrades died from the next powerful tier magic launching to their camps. “I see. So, he’s one of the dangerous people I’ve ever seen.”
“So, it is seen.” A familiar voice caught his gaze and turned his half-faced at him. “So, you’re alive, Alfio?” The man who had a wound from his back and half-destroyed suit had placed his hand on his shoulder. “I can’t believe that a man like him caught us off guard.”
Patioche turned his gaze once again to the man who still destroying one by one all of their bases, people and vehicles. He asked, “Just how much time do we need before the dawn arrives?” His comrade, Alfio, looked at the mountain at their east and replied with his mouth was dripping with blood, “I, I think, it will take time for the sunflowers to face the sun.”
“Another riddle?” Patioche smiled and resumed, “Well, what should we do then? Should we fight him?” His suggestion made Alfio trembled and shook his head thrice before he answered. “I think we can’t.” The response didn’t please him and Patioche backfired, “Are you stupid? Don’t you see our people down there are risking their lives for the sake of the clan? We need to get rid of that bastard before he wipes out our entire forces and screws our next plan. The occupation of the village has already at 85% progress until it reaches the end.”
Patioche cracked his fingers and fix his attire. He said, “Well, I would oblige to buy some time for us to take down that maniac.”
“If you wish to die then go for it.” Alfio cast his gaze down, “I’m sorry, I won’t be able to help you this time.” When he disappeared, Patioche smirk and cast a spell, targetting the butler who was still carrying a deformed body of someone he knew. “Die!” But suddenly, his eyes covered with blood and he realized he was on a huge cracked surface. He noticed his face was covered by his blood and his suit had already torn apart.
“What the fuck?” he muttered and powerful tier magic cast down towards him before he turned his gaze up the sky. He screamed from pain and his body disappeared from the map.
“One capo down,” Justin extinguished the smoke from his index. “I don’t need you now. Go to hell with your comrades.” And he threw away the body of a deformed face of Matheus Dante down the surface. The butler vanished from the sky afterward.
