Daliah slightly distanced herself from him.“T-This is your room, sir.” she was shivering as she did.
“Aah, I see. Thank you, Miss Daliah.” Hermes earnestly responded.
She was still afraid from him because of his weird and unpleasant appearance. She handed over the key to his room and told him “... Please, wait here until I prepare your dinner in the lobby. If you don’t come down, I will reserve it tomorrow. But inorder to prevent that, I’ll personally go here to call you.” Without further adieu, she lowered her head and just quietly exited his room.
But ‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒
“Seriously, what’s wrong with her?” He asked with puzzle up at her blunted action. “Am I kind of intimidating person in her sight? Jeez, I really hate something like that. Girls are girls, after all.”
Hermes closed the door and the window. He made sure no bandits around can be found in his temporary shelter. He knew they were eager to catch him no matter what happened.
Hermes took off his clothes including his mask and sat down in his bed. He took a deep breath and exhaled. His body exhausted from running and his legs stiffed. All he wanted was to find his servant, Justin, but he ended up in a miserable situation like what happened earlier.
He knew in his instinct that Justin was there in the Fifth district somewhere that no one can find it. But he was wondering why someone like him will risk his life to go there. All he just ordered for him to do was to buy him some snacks and drinks. Nothing more, nothing less. Unless he was doing something without consulting his own boss or someone kidnapped him by force.
“Justin, where the heck are you now? What are you up to?” Hermes murmured as he rolled his attention down in the floor. Worrying about what was really happened to his sole companion, he was desperately tracing him in that area. Hermes bite his thumb while thinking about the clues. All he guessed, Justin won’t do anything against his orders and would come to aid him anytime and anywhere. These hypotheses gave him a lot of headaches.
However, his own safety apprehensively worried. Now, he was hunted down by a group of bandits, he needed to make sure his own safety too. He sighed when he recalled the horrible situation he entered. He was expecting some glorious outcome from his good deeds but it ended up miserable in the end. The whole place he went to was really dangerous to live in.
Remembering the scene, the escape route he saw gave him uncertainty. The lightning he felt earlier that create a path to his escape. He didn’t recall anything special abilities that his character possessed such as that. All he remembered the original Hermes Archnemesis was a magicless user.
“Maybe, it was another bug of the game? It could be, I guess. It is impossible for me to possess such a useful and convenient ability. In my previous life, the developers told me he was and would be the weakest villain in the game until his death.” His words made him irritate when he recalled he was underestimating his own self after all. Thinking everything related to his life made him unable to grasp the real intention of the self-proclaimed God. ”Jeez, I hate to admit this character I possess is the worthless shit I ever get.” Scratching his left chin while thinking about the trouble, he let out a sigh of disappointment.
Looking around the room, he saw some books underneath his table. He stood up and picked it up. Reading the title of the book “The tragic story of an unwelcomed hero”, he unsightly recalled another memory. His mind spun and engulfed by darkness. In his eyes, a young boy and a black shadow lied down under the tree, listening to the leaf music by the shadow. The shadow wore a noble black suit and had a long hair tied like a tail. The young boy was reading the same book he picked up. When the young boy saw his astral body, he gave a wave. The shadow disappeared; making Hermes return to his senses. He was surprised by what he saw earlier and his body became fatigued. His mind and body somehow felt something terrible. He found himself lay down on the floor.
“W-What’s going on.. ? Aaargh… my head” He tried to stand up but his legs weakened and collapsed.
He didn’t know what kind of illness he experiencing. But the memories kept appearing at his mind multiple times. Refusing his head to hear thoughts and another memory, he defied all of it and referred them as delusions. However, whenever he closed his eyes, he couldn’t forget everything. Asking himself ‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒
This tale has been pilfered from Royal Road. If found on Amazon, kindly file a report.
Hang on, what are those things keep appearing in my head? Who are those people anyway? Jeez, this is not good.
He exceeded fought and endured the pain, however, some sort of magic kept it to rewind inside his brain. If he kept distance himself from these things, he might be ended up in his craziest state. Since Justin hadn’t found and remained missing, a lot of memories kept pounding back to him. He assumed it was just a peculiar symptom of psychotic disorder.
“This is just a game. I possessed this body of Hermes Archnemesis so this is just an avatar for a VR game, right? That Stump G, he must be a developer. Maybe… maybe, my body got kidnapped and they set me up. Put me in a container so no one can even find me. Right…. Right… this is… just, a game…. A game….” Hermes said another word against his will. In his current situation, clearing and freeing his mind from stress was impossible. But in an unknown type of skill, his pain had disappeared. He almost lost his mind from the severe headache gave by that strange power. He panted and checked his body.
Hermes still refused the reality in front of him and kept denying what he experienced tonight. All he could foresee, he might impossible to find a way to come back to his original body. Now finally freed from the illness, he just realized something very common in the game. He hadn’t tried to check his own character’s stats. Since he woke up from this world, he hadn’t tried to check his status. But, he decided to leave it aside for now and focused his mind in the real topic for now. Now, he was in this place, he must create a tentative solution to find out how can he solve his own accord.
But… how can I possibly find that moron? And what the hell is going on at me? Why am I keep pursuing for this shit? His mind spun and kneeled down. Crumbling from pain, Hermes pressed his heart as he couldn’t believe was what he saying earlier.
Hermes realized he was thinking nonsense once again. He lost to his own objective right away and tossed aside the book from his hands. He quickly punched himself to awake himself.
“Phew, that’s hurt! Alright, I’m back once again.” Rubbing his cheeks being hit, he then stared at the book.”That thing, it must be a curse, I presumed. Thank goodness, I was able to release myself from my wrath. In order to play this one, I must act according to my character’s will. Now, where am I again? Aah, I was thinking of avoiding to attract attention and preventing myself to be caught by the citizens of this village. Aaaah shit, because of those memories, I lost my temper and I just realized I’m losing at the same page right now. All I need to do was to find out where that bastard went to? Why did I even think about those theories back then?” Hermes was confused at what’s gotten to him. He acted like a child when he spoke something like this universe. He was starting to realize he was acting differently from his usual behavior.
He shook his head, “Oh boy, I must make sure that I won’t be absorbed in this situation. That book,” He narrowly averted his eyes and clicked his tongue. “I won’t touch it again. It gave me a bad experience that I would surely never forget. It gave me a shivering fear and hopefulness. I will tell the waitress to throw it away from my room once she comes back. Now,” he put his right hand under his chin, “let’s return to our plan and set my objectives in proper procedure. First, how can I even erase my name in the list of the most hated person in this village? Second, where the heck Justin went to? Aaaagh, Justin, where the heck did you go? Damn it, it’s hard to think for the solution if you don’t even have any slight idea in this universe. I need to return to the Fifth district and investigate the place. Last, how can I even live without magic? I don’t have the key for my success though. Also, there are a few things I observed. First, I can read and write well. Although I came from the original world, I should be able to understand their words. But how? Second, I can speak fluently and I could easily grasp what’s the other people are talking to. Although it should be in English, we’re speaking in the original language of this world in Italian. Third, the currency is a little bit different from the game, Luxer is the primary setting in the market. If I compared it in real life, the approximate equivalent of its amount is Euro instead of Yen in our previous world. So everything in this world is much more expensive to live in. As expected to the fantasy world, your life won’t get too easy to participate in. I blame the community in these factors. The world is cruel and unequal!”
Now, Hermes smoothly created his own path in order to prevent his death flag. Nonetheless, he must act cautiously in order to finish this up because he didn’t know exactly why he was summoned in this world. All he knew exactly, he was forced to be transferred in this universe.
“Damn it, I’m so confused so much! Aaagh! I don’t like to live in an alternate world though. It is supposed to be taken by kids and NEETS! I hate this crap! Oh great, I forgot, I became a NEET also during my middle school to high school too. Aaaargh! I am one of them too!” Hermes lost his temper and hammered his bed by his hands to release his anger.
*Cough*, now, he started to scratch everything he listed in order to settle things down. But for now, he needed to rest his mind and waited for the waitress for his dinner.
However, the waitress took a long time to call him. He just decided to lay down on his bed, using his arms as his pillows. He closed his eyes and after a few minutes, Daliah came in, she called his name several times but Hemes has roughly slept. Unluckily, he wasn’t able to eat his dinner.
